Here’s where you can access FG’s 12k subsidised dialysis

Published

For thousands of Nigerians living with kidney disease, the cost of dialysis has often meant choosing between treatment and survival. At an average of ₦50,000 per session, many patients were unable to keep up with the frequency of care required — sometimes three times a week.

Now, in a step to ease that burden, the Federal Government has approved a subsidy scheme that slashes the cost of dialysis to ₦12,000 per session. The move, officials say, is aimed at saving lives, reducing financial hardship, and bringing Nigeria closer to universal health coverage.

“This intervention is a deliberate initiative to bring relief to patients with kidney-related diseases,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement, assuring Nigerians that more hospitals will be added as the programme expands.

The scheme is currently running in 11 federal tertiary health facilities, spread across Nigeria’s geo-political zones:

  • Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano
  • University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Borno
  • Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi
  • University of Jos Teaching Hospital, Plateau
  • National Hospital, Abuja
  • Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta, Lagos
  • University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo
  • University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Edo
  • Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa
  • Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri, Imo
  • Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki, Ebonyi

The government stressed that no region has been excluded, despite reports to the contrary, and promised that the scheme will gradually cover more hospitals nationwide.

Hello, amazing parents! Raising energetic little ones is no small feat. They’re constantly on the move, exploring the world, and growing so rapidly. Just like a car needs the right fuel to run smoothly, our kids need the right nutrients to thrive and stay nourished. So, do you wonder what exactly goes into that amazing body of theirs? Let’s dive into 10 superstar nutrients that keep your child healthy and ready for anything!

1. Protein: The Building Blocks: Imagine tiny bricks constantly building amazing structures – that’s protein at work! It helps your child’s body grow strong muscles, bones, and even an amazing brain. Think lean meats, fish, eggs, beans, and nuts – hmmm yummy!

2. Carbohydrates: Energy Champs: Ever wonder why your child has boundless energy? Carbohydrates are their fuel source! They give your little adventurer the energy to run, jump, and play all day long. Choose whole grains like whole-wheat bread, brown rice, and sweet potatoes for sustained energy.

3. Healthy Fats: Don’t Be Fooled by the Name! Fat isn’t an enemy, it’s a superhero in disguise! Healthy fats help your child’s body absorb vitamins, build brain cells, and keep them feeling full. Think avocados, fatty fish like salmon, and nuts (in moderation, of course!).

4. Calcium: Building a Strong Foundation: Strong bones and teeth are essential for growing bodies. Calcium is the magic ingredient that makes them happen! Dairy products like Peak 456 Growing Up Milk and cheese are great sources but don’t forget leafy greens like kale and broccoli, which are also calcium powerhouses.

5. Iron: The Oxygen Delivery Team: Iron is a key player in red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body. Enough iron keeps your child energized and focused. Lean meats, beans, lentils, and fortified cereals are all iron-rich champions.

6. Vitamin A: Seeing Clearly and Staying Healthy: Vitamin A is a superhero for vision and keeps your child’s immune system strong to fight off those pesky colds. Sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, and broccoli are all loaded with this essential vitamin.

7. Vitamin C: The Healing Helper: Vitamin C helps wounds heal and keeps your child’s immune system in tip-top shape. Think citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits, but don’t forget bell peppers and strawberries for a vitamin C boost.

8. Vitamin D: Sunshine in a Nutrient: Vitamin D helps your child’s body absorb calcium, which is crucial for strong bones. Sunlight exposure is a great source, but you can also find vitamin D in fatty fish and fortified milk.

9. Fiber: The Tummy Tamer: Fiber keeps your child’s digestive system happy and healthy. Whole grains, fruits, and vegetables are all packed with fiber. Think of it as cleaning out their system for a smoother ride!

10. Potassium: The Balancing Act: Potassium helps regulate fluids in your child’s body and keeps their muscles working properly. Bananas, potatoes, and leafy greens are all champions in the potassium game.

Remember, this is just a starting point! The best way to ensure your child gets all these amazing nutrients is to offer a variety of healthy foods from all the food groups. Peak 456 Growing up Milk contains these nutrients listed above at the right and appropriate quantities to help your little ones grow strong and smart. If you have any concerns about your child’s specific needs, talk to your pediatrician.

The where, how and cost of MRI scan in Nigeria 2025

Is MRI done in Nigeria? Where can MRI be done in Nigeria? What is the price/cost of MRI scan in Nigeria? These nagging questions will be answered in this article but before we proceed, you need to know the following about the MRI…..

MRI means Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

It was developed in the 1970 and 1980s.

It is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to form pictures of the anatomy and physiological processes of the body both in health and in diseases.

It uses the principle of magnetic fields to generate images of the organs of the body.

The MRI is a very expensive machine both in purchase and in maintenance.

The cost of an MRI machine ranges for $1.2m to $3m

It is safer than x-rays and CT scans as it does not expose the body to radiations.

There are very few MRI machines in Nigeria.

Only the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH) in Oghara and the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan are the government owned hospitals with MRI in Nigeria.

Most of the MRI scans in Nigeria are done by privately owned diagnostic centres located in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Benin city, Kaduna etc.

The cost of MRI scan in Nigeria was once too expensive but it is becoming more affordable now because of competition.

In Nigeria, the National Health Insurance Scheme do not cover MRI scan.

MRI is not a routine diagnostic tool. Your doctor will most times request for an MRI in cases of suspected brain tumor (head scan) and in cases of back pain especially low back pain. It is also used to follow up patients.

MRI scan is contraindicated(not allowed) in some persons such as patients with cardiac pacemakers, cochlear implants shrapnels and metallic foreign bodies. This is because the MRI is a magnetic device as it will interfere with the function of these implants . Typical example is the cardiac pacemakers.
