Celtic recently appointed Martin O’Neill, who will be working with Shaun Maloney, as part of their interim coaching staff following Brendan Rodgers’ departure, and it’s now being reported that Mark Fotheringham will also join the club.
It was confirmed on Monday evening that Rodgers had resigned from his position as manager of Celtic, with the Glasgow outfit trailing league-leaders Hearts by eight points. Celtic were defeated by Derek McInnes’ side at the weekend, and the former Liverpool boss has now walked away from the job.
It’s unclear who is going to be taking over at Parkhead on a permanent basis, but O’Neill has been brought in temporarily to help steady the ship while they search for a new manager.
Mark Fotheringham Joins Celtic Coaching Staff
Reports are now claiming that former Celtic player Fotheringham will join their coaching staff, alongside O’Neill and Maloney, on an interim basis. Fotheringham will work with Maloney, Gavin Strachan, and Stevie Woods as part of the staff at Lennoxtown, and he’s familiar with the setup at the club have started his playing career with the Glasgow giants.
Fotheringham has previously worked with O’Neill, playing under the manager back in 2001. The 42-year-old left Celtic in 2003, before playing for several clubs including Fulham, Norwich, and Dundee. Back in 2022, Fotheringham was in charge of Huddersfield Town as manager, but he was sacked around four months later. The experienced coach has been out of work since the end of last season, when he was working under Alan Sheehan at Swansea City as an assistant manager.
