Four Rangers Players Danny Rohl Must Build Team Around at Ibrox

Published

on

Danny Rohl was appointed as Rangers manager last month following the sacking of Russell Martin, and the signs of improvement are now starting to show for the Ibrox club.

The German suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Norwegian top flight outfit Brann in the Europa League in his debut game, but since then has overseen three league wins in a row, despite a League Cup defeat to arch-rivals Celtic and another Europa League loss, this time 2-0 at home to Roma.

Rohl inherited a fractured and bruised squad from his predecessor, who had started the season in substandard form under the Scotsman, and now it is up to the former Bayern Munich assistant coach to sheer the Rangers ship back on course towards contention for the top two.

If Rohl is to do so, there are four Rangers talents that he must build his team around for the foreseeable future, to have any hope of closing the 12-point gap on current league leaders Hearts.

Four Rangers Players Rohl Must Build Team Around

Nicolas Raskin

Russell Martin Nicolas Raskin Rangers

Belgian international Nicolas Raskin was in splendid form for Rangers last season, and the holding midfielder has taken that into the current campaign, being one of few Gers figures to perform admirably – when he has been on the pitch.

Raskin has found the net twice already in European competitions thus far, and has three combined goal contributions in nine Scottish Premiership outings.

His presence in the heart of midfield will remain crucial for Rohl to battle their way back to their expected form.

On Sunday afternoon, Raskin scored the opening goal at Dundee with a deft header to set his side on course for a 3-0 win, and he will need to remain an ever-present going forward for Rohl’s Rangers.

Mohamed Diomande

Mohammed Diomande Rangers

Alongside Ruskin, his central midfield partner Mohamed Diomande must continue to be a crucial figure for Rangers’ engine room, but the 24-year-old’s form will need to improve to keep his starting role solidified under Rohl.

So far this season, the Ivory Coast international has failed to rediscover his exceptional form from his first full campaign at Ibrox after his permanent exit from Nordsjaelland in the summer of 2024, following a successful mid-season loan.

Diomande has already proven he has the credentials to be a success at Rangers and they looked a much better side with him in the first 45 minutes at Dundee.

If ever there was a head coach with a proven track record of improving and getting the best out his squad, it is the former Owls boss.

Djeidi Gassama

Rangers' Djeidi Gassama in action with Celtic's Callum McGregor

Rohl’s former Sheffield Wednesday starlet Djeidi Gassama enjoyed a stunning start to life in Scotland earlier this season following his Hillsborough exit, scoring four goals in his first three Champions League games under Martin.

The youngest was on the scoresheet again against Dundee last time out with an emphatic strike from distance, taking his tally to six goals in 23 games thus far in his Gers career, and his dynamism on the flanks will be pivotal to maintaining Rohl’s resurgence at Rangers.

22-year-old Gassama’s game needs polishing and refining, which Rohl will continue to provide, but his energetic presence out wide will always be a thorn in the side of Rangers’ opponents.

Mikey Moore

Mikey Moore Rangers

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Mikey Moore was one of Rangers’ standout performers against Dundee, with the young winger scoring his first goal in 17 outings thus far for the Gers courtesy of a stellar strike, before having another ruled out by VAR.

Within his first weeks on loan at Ibrox, Moore struggled for form under Martin, but is starting to live up to the lofty expectations of a Premier League player.

By Moore’s own admission, his upturn in performances since Rohl’s arrival has been no coincidence. After the Dundee win, as quoted by Inside Ibrox, Moore said:

I’ve had a lot more freedom to move across the pitch (since Rohl came in). The manager has given me confidence and belief in myself.

Moore’s innate dribbling ability is an attribute that will strike fear into opposition full-backs, and if the 18-year-old can keep producing the levels he enjoyed at Dundee consistently by harnessing that “belief”, both Spurs and Rangers will be equally delighted.

Liverpool Make Move to Hijack Man Utd Deal for Crysencio Summerville

Liverpool are set to undergo a major squad rebuild this summer under new manager Andoni Iraola, and the attack is understood to be one of the priority positions to strengthen.

The Reds have already completed a deal to bring in Spain winger Victor Munoz for around £35m, having hijacked Newcastle’s move for the tricky forward at the 11th hour after they had already had a bid accepted.

Now the club are ready to try and do something similar once again but to Man Utd, as they eye up a £50m move to bring another forward in at Anfield ahead of the new season.

Liverpool Make Move to Hijack Man Utd Summerville Deal

Crysencio Summerville

According to a report by Caught Offside, Liverpool have made their move to find a deal with West Ham to sign winger Crysencio Summerville.

The Netherlands international, who has been described as ‘elite’, enjoyed a fine individual season for the Hammers but couldn’t stop them from being relegated to the Championship. He then went to the World Cup and shone for the Netherlands, scoring twice before their elimination on penalties against Morocco, where he missed in the shootout.

His performances have attracted the attention of several top clubs in Europe and the Premier League, and Liverpool have now made a ‘serious move’ for his services.

Man Utd had made the 24-year-old their leading target as they look to bolster their forward line ahead of a campaign that includes Champions League football, but Liverpool are pushing to muscle their way into the race.

Mohamed Salah’s departure, plus question marks around the future of Federico Chiesa, mean there are spots open in attack, and Summerville’s pace, trickery and goal threat make him a top candidate for the role. West Ham are understood to value him at £50m, however, there is a belief he could be available for considerably less.

Liverpool have previously been pushing for Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola for the roles, but have faced big hurdles in the race for their signature. It now looks as though they are ready to move on to alternative targets as a result.

Iraola’s arrival at Anfield was a surprise following Arne Slot’s sacking, but he is ready to make a big statement by building the squad in his own image and challenge for a Premier League title.

Summerville’s addition would not only be a major coup for the Anfield side, but it would also be a big blow to rivals Man Utd who are having a difficult window landing their top targets.

Liverpool are ready to go big in this window again, and Summerville could be the next man to arrive through the doors and help strengthen the squad ahead of what is a huge season.

Cristian Romero Could Leave Tottenham After Tonali Deal

Tottenham could still allow some high-profile players to leave the club this summer as they look to at least partly balance their spending. It has been a record summer already for Spurs, who have spent more than they ever have in a single window, splashing out more than £230million. That’s a total that was most recently added to by the signing of Sandro Tonali for £100million.

Roberto De Zerbi is being given new weapons aplenty in the hope of Tottenham becoming European football candidates again next season, and the spending is expected to continue. Both financially and in terms of Profit and Sustainability rules, Tottenham can afford to spend big this summer, having been incredibly balanced in their spending for the vast majority of years, all while being one of the most profitable clubs in the world.

But to prevent being restricted in future windows, it would be a good idea for them to commission a couple of big sales this summer, and we have already seen Luka Vuskovic head to Brighton for £46million. Cristian Romero could be the next to follow.

Romero still keen on Tottenham exit

Cristian Romero gestures during a Tottenham match

Even with some tasty off-the-field comments about the club’s board, Romero has served Tottenham with an admirable commitment that will likely see him depart with a handshake and a slap on the back. At this stage, the Argentine wants a new challenge, and Spurs are happy to give him one, already preparing for his likely exit this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, LaLiga remains Romero’s destination of choice. “Cristian ‘Cuti’ Romero, at the moment, from Tottenham Hotspur, the view is clear, they have Van de Ven, Van Hecke, Senesi, they have plenty of centre-backs,” Romero said on his YouTube channel.

“Also, not playing European football this season, the idea of parting ways with Cuti Romero is still a serious possibility. So, there is still a strong chances for Romero to leave Tottenham this summer. Despite rumours from Italy that keep arriving with Romero, my understanding is that Romero would really like to have a new experience in LaLiga. So, Cuti Romero would like to have a new experience in LaLiga if the right opportunity arrives for him and for Tottenham.

“That could be an option for Barcelona, it could be an option for Atletico Madrid, we will see, but Romero would like to go to LaLiga and try an experience in Spain. We will see what arrives for Romero because he signed a contract only a year ago, the season was not easy, but at the same time, there could be movement also because Tottenham already signed several centre-backs, and they feel well-covered in that situation, so it’s going to be a situation to watch.”

De Zerbi knows Romero is a ‘big player’

De Zerbi hasn’t had much chance to work with Romero due to the defender’s injury issues at the end of last season. But the Italian did say: “He is a big player, but he is an amazing guy because he has been a great captain in my time. Even though he didn’t play, we were talking by phone when he stayed here. Every morning he came in my office.”

Thomas Frank, who started last season as Spurs boss, said after one performance: “Praising Cuti, I think he deserves that. A top performance defending. On the ball: coolness, calmness, duels, then get up there and score two goals.

“I think the bicycle kick will most likely get a little more praise but I think the header is more exceptional, the way he does that is better than many strikers.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Comments About Lamine Yamal from 2024 Look Interesting Now

World Cup 2026 could witness a generational changing of the guard at the very top of football.

The era of the beautiful game defined by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo‘s epic rivalry passed its peak many years ago, but the current rendition of the World Cup in North America could well provide the final chapter.

Nothing is impossible when it comes to arguably the two greatest footballers of all time, yet it seems almost certain that this will be Messi and Ronaldo’s final chapter on football’s grandest stage.

Opta’s Supercomputer claims England now have a stronger chance than Lionel Messi’s Argentina

In theory, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe are the standout candidates to succeed them as the new rivalry at the beautiful game’s pinnacle.

And yet there is a chance that both players, despite enjoying their peak years, will be overtaken by a much younger challenger, bypassing the Mbappe-Haaland generation to dominate football unilaterally.

That is what Ronaldo himself hinted at two years ago when he discussed one of Portugal’s World Cup Round of 16 opponents – Spain’s Lamine Yamal.

Speaking to former Manchester United team-mate Rio Ferdinand on his Youtube channel, Ronaldo tipped Lamal to become the best player of his generation.

Massive praise from not only someone who was arguably the biggest talent of his own era, but also someone who is so strongly associated with Barcelona’s bitter rivals, Real Madrid. It’s not often players praise so generously when crossing the Clasico divide. He said:

“He’s got a huge potential I see a lot of talent. But let’s see during his journey what’s going to happen. But I think he’ll make it. He will be the best player of this new generation.”

There was a 15-year stretch in which Ronaldo and Messi won 13 Ballon d’Ors between them, with only Luka Modric in 2018 and Karim Benzema in 2022 able to postpone their duopoly. But since Messi’s penultimate gong in 2023, the battle over the current best footballer in the world has felt a lot more open.

Tellingly, in the last four Ballon d’Or contests, we have seen four different Ballon d’Or winners, three of them clinching the award for the first time, but we have also seen 12 different names feature across the podiums. In other words, the last four Ballon d’Or awards have seen twelve unique players rank within the top three.

With no individuals being in a league of their own, on-pitch success has been a key factor in recent Ballon d’Or races. Three Ballon d’Ors immediately followed a Champions League win, while Messi’s most recent triumph in 2023 was a consequence of Argentina winning the 2022 World Cup.

Now in another World Cup year, whichever nation lifts the trophy will see their star players immediately shoot up the list of favourites to win the Ballon d’Or. Spain are certainly among the top nations at the tournament and Yamal will be central to any success they have.

Whether team and individual prizes alone define who the best footballer in the world truly is can be strongly debated. But at just 18 years of age and already in the discussion, Yamal is clearly head and shoulders above his generational peers right now.
