Celtic Want to Interview Ipswich Manager Kieran McKenna
Celtic are not giving up in their efforts to pry Kieran McKenna away from Ipswich Town and are looking to interview the manager over a potential Parkhead move, according to TEAMtalk.
The Hoops continue their search for Martin O’Neill’s permanent successor and are claimed to be considering several potential candidates, including Columbus Crew boss Wilfried Nancy.
As GIVEMESPORT reported on Monday, Nancy is considered a front-runner for the Parkhead role, with Celtic earmarking the 42-year-old as the most attainable option at the moment.
Signing McKenna at this point in the season remains a difficult task, as the 38-year-old is under contract with Ipswich until the summer of 2028 and has recently reaffirmed that his only focus is on seeing out the season at Portman Road.
Ipswich are seventh in the Championship under McKenna this term, having won six of their 14 games, drawing five and losing three.
Celtic Remain Keen on Kieran McKenna
According to TEAMtalk, prising McKenna away from Ipswich mid-season would cost in excess of £5m amid Celtic’s admiration for the 38-year-old tactician.
It remains to be seen whether the Hoops would be open to spending that much on a manager at this stage of the campaign, considering other candidates could be easier to lure from their respective clubs.
That includes both Nancy, who ended his season with Columbus Crew last weekend, and Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen, whose contract with the Norwegian club expires at the end of the year.
Celtic also have the option of handing more time to O’Neill amid his positive domestic start, with the 73-year-old winning all three of his games so far.
Celtic’s only defeat with the Northern Irishman in charge came in the Europa League last week, where they fell 3-1 to table-toppers Midtjylland.
McKenna, who took over at Portman Road in the summer of 2021, led the Tractor Boys to Premier League promotion in 2023/24 but won just four out of 38 games in the top flight.
The 38-year-old spent five years at Manchester United before joining Ipswich and served as assistant manager to both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho.

‘O Canada’ – Lyrics and Meaning of Canada National Anthem
Canada’s identity on the football pitch has always been a quieter story than its hockey rinks, but with the nation co-hosting the 2026 World Cup alongside the USA and Mexico, ‘O Canada’ has echoed louder than ever before.
It’s a song most Canadians know by heart from school assemblies and hockey nights, but as the home crowd belt it out at the World Cup on home soil, here’s everything you need to know about the anthem’s lyrics and meaning.
‘O Canada’ Lyrics
Official Lyrics of the anthem:
O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all of us command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada (French Lyrics):
Ô Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l’épée,
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Canadians singing O Canada
At major tournaments, the anthem tends to draw a similarly fierce response from Canadian fans as their footballing neighbours, with bilingual crowds often blending both English and French verses into one rendition, reflecting the country’s officially bilingual status.
Meaning of O Canada Explained
The song was originally commissioned for a Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day ceremony in Quebec City in 1880, with Lavalle composing the music before Routhier supplied French Lyrics. An English translation followed in 1906, but it was Robert Stanley Weir’s 1908 version, written independently rather than as a direct translation, that eventually became the basis for the official English lyrics.
The English lyrics centre on themes of patriotism and natural strength, referencing the “True North strong and free” and a collective duty to defend the homeland. Notably, the anthem officially consists of just one verse in each language, even though the original poems by both Routhier and Weir ran to four verses apiece.

The English lyrics were modified as recently as 2018, when the line “True patriot love in all thy sons command” was changed to “True patriot love in all of us command” to make the wording gender-neutral. The French lyrics, meanwhile, lean more heavily on religious and historical imagery, with references to the sword and the cross reflecting Quebec’s Catholic heritage, and have remained largely untouched since 1880.
Despite being written and performed as early as 1880, ‘O Canada’ wasn’t officially adopted as the country’s national anthem until 1980, a full century after it was first sung, meaning it will have only marked its 46th anniversary as Canada’s official anthem when it’s belted out at the World Cup on home soil this summer.

Ben Stokes Drops Major Hint on Why He Really Retired as England Captain
Former England Test match captain Ben Stokes has dropped a major hint as to why he resigned from the role during last weekend’s third Test with New Zealand at Trent Bridge.
The 35-year-old informed his teammates of his decision at the start of Sunday’s fourth day, but didn’t make the news public until 3:25pm, at which time he was in the middle of a marathon bowling spell towards the back end of the second session.
The timing of the announcement was no coincidence, with the release of a statement orchestrated to ensure that Stokes was at the centre of the action when his decision came out.
Ben Stokes Took A Wicket Moments After Announcing His International Retirement
In fairness to the man himself, he made the most of the stage, finding the edge of Zak Foulkes’ bat with his first ball after the news went public. Harry Brook took a fine catch at second slip to give Stokes a fairytale wicket.
The Durham man addressed some of the motivation behind his decision in a post-match interview with Sky Sports, where he blamed the demands of playing at the highest level for his decision to walk away from the international game.
However, many suspect that there is more to the story. Although Stokes was captain of the side for the third Test, he had been dropped for the second Test, along with teammate Gus Atkinson, after breaking a team curfew.
Stokes’ first social media statement on his retirement from international cricket included a suggestion that external pressure had played a major role in his decision.
The legendary all-rounder called his England career “a mad 15 years”, before making a telling admission, indicating that he may have resigned before bosses had the chance to sack him.
“My time was up, and no one was going to be able to make that decision other than me.”
Stokes’ decision-making during the final hours of his England career also suggested that he wanted to make a point to his bosses. In a curious call, the skipper decided to promote himself up the order to open in his final Test match innings.
With England looking to chase down 373 for an unlikely victory, Stokes blazed a quick-fire 30 off 20 balls in a cameo packed with risky shots as the hosts lost all chance of victory by chasing the game in kamikaze fashion.
As he walks away from the international game, Stokes has already named the man he wants to replace him at the helm of the Test team. Although he will no longer represent his country, he is expected to carve out a lucrative career for himself on the global T20 circuit.

Sky Sports Reporter Rules Out Tottenham Completing ‘Reliable’ Transfer
Tottenham are dominating the summer transfer window, snapping up signings at every turn in a bid to transform their relegation-battling squad. The Spurs board finally look to have seen enough after back-to-back bottom-half finishes, and Roberto De Zerbi is likely to have demanded summer spending before accepting the job.
But even De Zerbi will be pleasantly surprised by how much Spurs have been willing to spend this summer, with a record spend already committed between the signings of Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
But the spending will not end there, and it’s expected Tottenham want to sign both a winger and potentially a striker before the summer is out.
Tottenham distance themselves from Trafford links
With starting goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario expected to leave Tottenham to return to Italy this summer, there have been a couple of goalkeepers linked with a North London switch this summer. One of them is Manchester City’s James Trafford, who could be on the move just one year on from his £27million move from Burnley. Trafford looked to have signed as City’s new number one, but the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma changed all that, and the Englishman has barely had a look in, despite being described as ‘reliable’ by Pep Guardiola,
But according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, Tottenham have no intention of going after Trafford this summer. He posted on X: “Very busy few days for Spurs & more to come. However, understand James Trafford is not a Tottenham target.”
Spurs are throwing their weight behind Kinsky
Part of the reason Spurs are likely not interested in a deal for Trafford is because they appear to be making Antonin Kinsky their number one, The youngster impressed at the back end of last season, when filling in for Vicario, and he has now been rewarded with a new contract this summer.
De Zerbi said upon the signing of the new deal: “Toni was outstanding over the final seven games of the season and a key part of what we achieved in that period. I am delighted he has committed his future to the Club. He has earned this new contract, not only with his performances but also his professionalism and desire to improve.
“We have huge belief in what Toni can become. He is still young, has enormous potential and I know that Spurs is the perfect place for him to continue to develop into one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.”
Those comments, and indeed the deal itself, are telling about Tottenham seeing Kisnky as their number one, and they have also signed Dubravka to compete from the number two spot.
