APC reminds Adeleke, PDP of ongoing LG tenure court case
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has reminded Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that a tenure determination suit involving reinstated local government chairmen and councillors remained pending before the Federal High Court.
The Osun APC made this known in a statement by Tajudeen Lawal, its state chairman on Monday.
In the statement, the APC alleged that the state government and the PDP had attempted to misinform the members of the public following recent legal developments regarding local government administration in the state.
The party said the state government began releasing all manners of lies after the loss suffered by the PDP-led administration over the reinstatement of APC council officials.
According to the APC, “the state government had failed to inform the public about Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/147/2025, which concerns the determination of the tenure of the reinstated chairmen and councillors.”
The party said the matter last came up in court in November and was adjourned until February 2026.
The party said, “the suit also seeks judicial clarification on whether the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission has the authority to conduct another local government election during the subsisting tenure of the reinstated officials.”
It added that, “the PDP-led government had been misleading the public by describing an exercise held on 22 February 2025 as local government elections, claiming that residents had begun to recognise the difference between an election and illegal declaration.”
The APC alleged that comments attributed to state officials, including Commissioner for Information Kolapo Alimi, were “a deliberate attempt to incite the innocent members of the public and these claims did not reflect existing legal positions.”
The statement said Governor Adeleke and his aides were distorting facts surrounding the ongoing crisis affecting local government administration and warned that such actions could undermine peace in the state.
It noted that the pending suit also seeks confirmation that the reinstated chairmen and councillors are entitled to a three year tenure, having held their first sitting in February 2025.
The party urged security agencies and the public to remain vigilant, warning of potential breaches of peace linked to alleged threats by the state government and some PDP members to resort to force.
It cited an incident at Otan-Aiyegbaju in Boluwaduro local government area following the recent Supreme Court judgment, calling for protection of citizens and political supporters.
The APC, while appealing to parents and guardians to caution their children against involvement in political violence, urged its members and supporters to remain peaceful as the legal issues surrounding the local government councils continue to unfold.

2027: Activists seeking political offices can’t make any difference — Segalink
Mr. Segun ‘Segalink’ Awosanya
By Enitan Abdultawab
Social commentator and institutional reforms advocate, Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, has argued that Nigerian activists who are seeking political offices in the 2027 general election won’t necessarily make a difference in governance.
The reform advocate maintained that activists often lose the moral authority that initially made them agents of change when they get into politics.
In an interview with Vanguard News’ Politics Hub, Segalink maintained that meaningful impact does not solely depend on holding political office, insisting that individuals can transform society from whatever position they occupy.
According to him, those who genuinely desire change should already be making a difference without waiting to secure political appointments or elective positions.
“They cannot make a difference. If they can, they should be able to make a difference from where they are,” he said.
Using himself as an example, the activist noted that he has consistently contributed to national development without pursuing political power.
“I am not a politician, but I am making a difference from where I am. I am not searching for power or political appointments, but you can trace the trajectory of what I have been doing over the years and see the importance and impact in real time in society,” he stated.
Segalink also criticized what he described as the rise of online political “cults” and echo chambers, alleging that some supporters have become more interested in defending personalities than engaging with ideas.
According to him, there are “certain impressionable Nigerians” who have formed online groups that attack anyone unwilling to lead them or exploit their loyalty for political gain.
Without mentioning any political figure directly in the remarks, he urged Nigerians to recognize their individual responsibility in nation-building instead of waiting for politicians or influencers to dictate their actions.
“I am simply saying that you have a power within you, a responsibility in your society. You can make a difference in your country without necessarily needing someone to tell you who to follow, who to abuse, or who to vote for or not,” he said.
Segalink stressed that lasting national development begins with citizens taking responsibility for their communities, arguing that genuine leadership is demonstrated through sustained service rather than the pursuit of political office.
