Nemanja Vidic Left Gary Neville Shocked After Burning Jamie Carragher

Published

on

Nemanja Vidic is, without question, one of the greatest centre-backs in Premier League history. The Serbian made the move to Manchester United in 2006 as he joined in a £7m move from Spartak Moscow.

After a slow start to life in England, Vidic was eventually able to establish himself in the heart of Man United’s defence and he would go on to build a formidable partnership with Rio Ferdinand.

The Serbian made 300 appearances during his nine-season spell with the Red Devils, scoring 21 times. He won 15 trophies during his stint, including five Premier League titles and a Champions League, as well as numerous personal accolades.

However, despite his mightily impressive resume, not everyone has been overly complimentary about him over the years.

Jamie Carragher is Not Nemanja Vidic’s Biggest Fan

One big name in the football world that doesn’t rate Vidic as highly as some others is Jamie Carragher. Carragher and Vidic came up against each other numerous times during their stints at Liverpool and United respectively.

While the Englishman recognises that Vidic was a ‘top centre-back’, he doesn’t believe he is anywhere near as great as Virgil van Dijk and used his struggles against Fernando Torres to try and prove his point.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in 2023, Carragher wrote: “VVD [Virgil van Dijk] is far better than [Nemanja] Vidic, who was a top CB [centre-back], but have you forgot his performances against [Fernando] Torres?” he wrote.

Carragher’s comments caused a real stir, with many big names including Rio Ferdinand and Sir Alex Ferguson speaking out in support of him.

When asked by Ferdinand about Carragher’s comments, Ferguson said: “Well, there’s a problem with what he’s talking about. [Vidic] brought [Torres] down twice when he was through on goal, so it looks like he was tortured from that respect.

“The second sending off was a bit unfair. He sort of grappled with him at Old Trafford and then got sent off. So I think Carragher’s saying the fact [Vidic] was sent off twice against [Torres] – once at Anfield, once at Old Trafford – suggests that he tortured him. Like all centre-forwards [Torres] had his qualities, but I wouldn’t say he was the best centre-forward that ever played against Vidic. Far from it.

“There’s a certain inclination and suggestion that because Vidic was sent off against him [Torres] had tortured him. But you know, one tackle can get you sent off.”

Nemanja Vidic Sent Message to Jamie Carragher Following Criticism

Vidic clearly saw Jamie Carragher’s criticism as he hit back at him during an appearance on The Overlap in July 2025. Towards the end of the video, Vidic reminded Gary Neville that he had won the Premier League Player of the Season on two occasions; in 2008/09 and 2010/11.

He said: “Do you know how many players won that? Just five players, two times. Only five players have won the Premier League Player of the year twice: Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah and me.”

After confirming Vidic’s claim, Neville then told the Serbian that he included him when selecting his greatest XI of Manchester United teammates. Vidic then launched a dig at Carragher with his response.

“Well done Gaz. Now you have evidence. Say that to Carragher.”

Neville looked stunned at Vidic’s comments at first before bursting out laughing. Neville then asked Vidic whether he likes Carragher. He replied: “No, I think he’s good. But not good enough.”

Tottenham have opened talks to sign a Manchester City midfielder who Enzo Maresca’s side are desperate to keep hold of.

Spurs have been one of the busiest sides in the summer transfer window so far, already securing six new additions to their squad.

It is no surprise that they have been incredibly active in the market after finishing 17th in the Premier League two seasons on the bounce.

They showed signs of improvement towards the end of the last campaign after Roberto De Zerbi was appointed, so it’s no surprise that the board are looking to back him.

Tottenham looked like they were facing the serious threat of relegation before De Zerbi took over, but he managed to steer them back in the right direction.

The Manchester club are believed to be desperate to keep hold of the 16-year-old talent, making him an ‘outstanding’ offer that is believed to be among the strongest financial packages to a player of his age in Europe.

Tottenham are believed to be in a race against eight other clubs to secure the signature of the young star, who is widely regarded as one of the best in his age group in English football.

Parker, described as a game-breaking midfielder, is yet to agree terms on a professional contract with City, which has alerted other clubs such as Tottenham.

Tottenham are also pushing to secure the signature of Bournemouth forward Eli Jr Kroupi in the summer transfer window.

Reports have suggested that Tottenham are preparing to make an opening bid of around £75 million to sign the youngster after his breakthrough season with the Cherries.

Spurs are believed to be at the front of the queue for Kroupi as they are planning to offer him an immediate start and role.

Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be interested in signing Kroupi, but with their star-studded attack, he is going to find it difficult to break into the starting eleven immediately.

English FA May Appeal Jarell Quansah’s Red Card vs Mexico

FIFA’s decision to suspend Folarin Balogun’s red card could prompt England to appeal Jarell Quansah’s sending-off in the win over Mexico.

Quansah was dismissed in the 54th minute of the Three Lions’ famous victory over the Mexicans at the Azteca. The former Liverpool defender slid in to win the ball but unintentionally left his studs on Mexican left-back Jesus Gallardo.

Thomas Tuchel slammed the officiating during the game including VAR’s decision to intervene and send referee Alireza Faghani to the pitchside monitor. The German’s frustrations appear to be shared by the FA.

According to Sky Sports, the FA are considering an appeal against Quansah’s red card, although no decision has been made. They are weighing up all options ahead of England’s quarter-final clash with Norway on Saturday.

The incident occurred after the Three Lions were 2-1 ahead following Jude Bellingham’s first-half brace. Julian Quinones equalised on the stroke of half-time before Tuchel’s men were reduced to ten men early in the second half.

England were awarded a penalty after Mexican goalkeeper Raul Rangel brought Anthony Gordon down in the box. Harry Kane put his side 3-1 up from the spot, but more controversy took hold in the 69th minute.

Mexico were awarded a penalty, which Raul Jimenez tucked away to ignite a chaotic finish to the game. Tuchel’s troops held on and secured a huge win in an all-time classic at the Azteca.

What Tuchel Said

Tuchel celebrated the victory with his players before speaking to the media and ripping into the officiating. The German hit out at the two VAR calls that saw Quansah sent off and Mexico awarded a penalty when Brian Gutierrez went down under a challenge from Kane.

The England boss told BBC Sport:

“It’s just not good enough. Referees are just not good enough. Fourth officials are just not good enough. It’s the bottom line. Is this a clear and obvious mistake for the [Mexico] penalty? For sure not, but VAR gets involved. They overturn a situation where he doesn’t even give a foul. Not good enough.”

Man Utd Withdraw from Race for Mexican Teenager Gilberto Mora

Published

Manchester United have pulled out of yet another race during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have been in the market for a host of different players over the last few weeks, but they have been struggling to get deals over the line.

Elliot Anderson recently signed for Manchester City, while Mateus Fernandes joined Tottenham Hotspur, and they were two key targets for the Manchester club.

The lack of signings could be a concern for United supporters, especially as they are losing out to some of their rival clubs.

Missing out on signings to a club like Tottenham, with all due respect, will be a huge blow for United. Spurs are without any European football this season, but players are still picking Tottenham over them, perhaps due to financial reasons.

According to a report from Team Talk, Manchester United have now withdrawn from the race to sign Mexican youngster Gilberto Mora in the summer transfer window.

A number of clubs are showing an interest in the 17-year-old star this summer, and United have reportedly been tracking him for six months.

The report claims that United have withdrawn from entering the bidding due to the potential cost of a deal and the level of interest from other clubs.

It’s claimed that the valuation of Mora is set to exceed £34m, but with clubs such as Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Ajax, Manchester City, and Arsenal all linked with a move, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see that value increase.

As mentioned, United supporters must be getting frustrated with the lack of business they’ve been doing over the last few weeks.

Missing out on key targets is a huge blow, and they need to get deals over the line if they want to compete on all fronts next season.

The Manchester club qualified for Champions League football, meaning they need a deeper and more competitive squad in order to flourish.

With Casemiro departing and Manuel Ugarte suffering a serious injury, United undoubtedly need to bring in new midfielders in the coming weeks and months.
