Kurt Zouma Has ‘Contract Terminated’ After Four Matches at CFR Cluj
Former Chelsea and West Ham defender Kurt Zouma has had his contract terminated after just four matches with his new club, CFR Cluj, as confirmed in a statement. The 31-year-old had signed a two-year deal with an option for an additional two years, but has departed before the ink could even dry.
With 247 Premier League appearances and two league titles won during his time at Stamford Bridge, the Frenchman was expected to stand head and shoulders above most players in Romania. However, with his last of four appearances dating back to October, Zouma’s decline has accelerated in recent years.
The 11-capped France international has also courted controversy during this period. He made headlines in 2022 when footage emerged of him kicking, slapping, and throwing objects at his cat, filmed at his home by his brother, Yoan Zouma. Since then, a series of events has further hastened the downward trajectory of his career as things have gone from bad to worse.
11 Former Chelsea Players You Maybe Didn’t Know Were Still Playing
From David Luiz to George McEachran, there are a handful of former Chelsea players still playing the beautiful game.
CFR Cluj Release Statement As Kurt Zouma Departs After Four Games
CFR Cluj head coach Daniel Pancu revealed that negotiations were underway between player and club to terminate the defender’s contract early. “Zouma, I know there were discussions between him and the club to find a solution for him to leave. And that’s about it,” Pancu said last month, as per talkSPORT.
And former CFR Director of Football Daniel Stanciu has told Romanian media that the 31-year-old has now left. The reason, however, is suggested to have been more about wages than his performance, as he revealed:
“Yes, I understand that he resigned. He had a very high salary.”
CFR won only one of the four games that Zouma featured in, that coming in a 4-0 win at CFM Slatina. But off-field issues have been a far bigger problem for the veteran defender in the last few years, which has only made focussing on his football all the more difficult.
Zouma’s Off-field Issues Pile Up
Zouma first joined West Ham in 2021 after coming up through Saint-Etienne’s ranks and playing for Chelsea, but it was in east London where his off-field issues began to pile up. While his animal abuse case was the most notorious – resulting in a £250,000 fine from the club, 180 hours of community service, and being dropped by Adidas – other problems have followed.
In December 2023, Zouma and his family were victims of a burglary at their home, when an armed gang stole £100,000 worth of cash and jewellery. Then, in 2024, Zouma’s agent, Saif Alrubie, was charged with sending an electronic communication with intent to cause distress or anxiety to Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia. In April of the same year, Alrubie was found not guilty of the offence.
Now a free agent once again, it remains to be seen whether Zouma has any potential suitors to see out the rest of his playing days. In the final season of his contract with the Hammers, he spent time on loan in the Saudi Pro League, and that could well be a destination he ends up returning to, given his reputation earlier in his career.

Manchester United Eye Werder Bremen Defender Karim Coulibaly Transfer
Manchester United could be in the market for a new defender in the summer transfer window as they look to improve Michael Carrick’s squad.
The Red Devils have been heavily focusing on signing midfielders so far this summer, but they have struggled to get deals over the line.
A move for Ederson appears to be reaching a conclusion, especially now the Brazilian midfielder has been knocked out of the World Cup.
After securing the signatures of some new additions in the middle of the park, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see United move on to different areas of the pitch.
There is no doubt the midfield is a major priority, but due to competing in the Champions League, they will need to reinforce multiple areas.
Man Utd Withdraw From Another Deal Due to Cost After 6-Month Scouting Mission
Manchester United have pulled out of yet another race during the summer transfer window.
Man Utd eyeing new defender
According to a report from Team Talk, Manchester United are monitoring Werder Bremen centre-back Karim Coulibaly in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils face competition from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, and they are actively seeking reinforcements in defence.
The Bundesliga club could charge up to £43m to allow Coulibaly to depart this summer. At the age of 19, he’s seen as a potential long-term investment for interested parties.
Werder Bremen are hoping to keep Coulibaly, described as ‘elite’, for another season, whether that be through rejecting any potential bids or inserting a loan-back clause in any deal.

Signing a midfielder has to be a priority
Despite links to signing a new defender, Manchester United have to prioritise bringing in midfield additions in the summer transfer window.
They are yet to confirm a new signing in the middle of the park, and although there is plenty of time remaining, they could continue to miss out on key targets.
With Casemiro already through the exit door and Manuel Ugarte suffering a serious injury, United are desperate for midfield reinforcements.
Mateus Fernandes and Elliot Anderson were both key targets for the Red Devils, but they failed to get their signatures as they moved to other Premier League clubs.

Belgium Post Two Savage Tweets After Knocking USA Out of World Cup
Belgium reacted to their emphatic 4-1 victory over the United States at the 2026 World Cup with two savage tweets, both of which have gone viral.
The Belgians couldn’t resist rubbing salts into American wounds following FIFA’s hugely controversial decision to allow USMNT forward Florian Balogun to play in the last 16 fixture.
Balogun was sent off in USA’s 2-0 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina in the Round of 32, but FIFA suspended the 25-year-old’s one-match ban after US President Donald Trump intervened.
Trump has close ties with FIFA chief Gianni Infantino, who denied accusations that the decision was influenced by the president.
However, FIFA’s decision has been widely condemned, with UEFA calling it “unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable”.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic Causes Stir With Reaction to FIFA Suspending Folarin Balogun’s Ban
The Swede is ‘happy’ for the USA.
Although Balogun was cleared to play, the former Arsenal striker failed to prevent the USA slumping to a heavy 4-1 defeat at the Seattle Stadium on Monday night.
Charles De Ketelaere opened the scoring for Belgium in the ninth minute before Malik Tillman equalised after 30 minutes. De Ketelaere then restored the Red Devils’ advantage minutes later.
Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku ensured that it’s Belgium, rather than Mauricio Pochettino’s USMNT, who will face Spain at the Los Angeles Stadium in the quarter-finals on Friday after scoring in the second half.

Belgium Rub Salt Into USMNT Wounds
The result reduces the prospect of FIFA facing potential legal action from Belgium. In response to Balogun’s one-game ban being suspended, the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) warned prior to kick-off: “The RBFA has informed the United States Soccer Federation that it contests the eligibility of the player, should the player be listed on the referee’s team sheet. This leaves all further actions open.”
However, the X (Twitter) account of the Belgium national team couldn’t resist firing two parting shots at the United States following their last 16 victory.
They posted photos of Belgium’s players celebrating alongside the caption: “Overturn this.” See the tweet below:
A second tweet featured the scoreline and the caption: “It’s called s̶o̶c̶c̶e̶r̶ FOOTBALLl.”
Asked if he’d used the pre-match controversy to motivate his players against the US, Belgium head coach Rudi Garcia told reporters: “No, it wasn’t at all necessary. What really mattered to us was our game plan.
“We wanted to dominate the game, avoid their pressing and play higher up. We played with mastery, with willingness and dedication. It was a great night for us and a great qualification for the quarter-finals.”
Meanwhile, Pochettino was disappointed his side failed to produce the goods when it mattered most.
“We didn’t show our real quality as a team,” the Argentine said, per Reuters. “We never connected with the game. Belgium were better than us, and that’s it.
“It was a very bad day. It wasn’t our day, collectively or individually. In a tournament like the World Cup, when that happens in a knockout stage, you are out and you need to go home.”

Tottenham Informed of £68m Price Tag for Como Star Martin Baturina
Tottenham have been told to pay £68m if they want to sign Como attacking midfielder Martin Baturina after holding talks with the Croatian international.
Baturina has recently been competing at the World Cup with Croatia, before they were knocked out by Portugal in the round of 32.
Interest has been building in the 23-year-old, especially after a strong tournament despite not being able to help Croatia reach the round of 16.
Tottenham are in the market for reinforcements in the summer transfer window despite already making six new additions.
Martin Dubravka, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Jan-Paul van Hecke have all signed on the dotted line at Tottenham.
Despite the six additions, it appears their business is not over just yet.

Tottenham are showing an interest in signing a Paris Saint-Germain star.
Tottenham told price after talks
According to a report from 24 Sata (via Sport Witness), Tottenham have been told by Serie A side Como that Baturina will be allowed to leave the club for a fee around £68 million in the summer transfer window.
Tottenham have had talks with Como ahead of a potential move, and they’ve now been told what it will take to get him out of the Italian outfit.
Spurs will face competition from Bayern Munich, among others, and his price tag has increased after his World Cup displays.
Como are in a strong negotiating position with the Croatian international, described as a ‘magician’, as he is tied down under contract until 2030.
Whether Tottenham can beat a club like Bayern Munich in the race remains to be seen, while the £68m price tag does seem hefty.

Tottenham enjoying impressive window
Even if Tottenham’s transfer window ended right now, they’d still be in a better position than they were at the end of last season.
They’re making some excellent signings to improve the starting eleven and raise the floor of De Zerbi’s squad.
Considering they’ve made all their new additions by early July, they’re still likely to bring in a host of new signings before the end of the window.
Tottenham have heavily strengthened in midfield and defence so far in the transfer window. It wouldn’t be a surprise if their attention turned to improving their forward line in the coming weeks.
