Real Madrid Plot Shock Move To Sign West Ham Ace

Published

on

Real Madrid are keeping an eye on West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes and are prepared to make a shock transfer move this summer.

Fernandes signed for the Hammers in a £40million deal last summer, but could be on the move just a year later, particularly if West Ham are relegated from the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have edged closer to safety in recent weeks, with victories over rivals Tottenham and then Sunderland at the weekend.

Relegation Could Hit West Ham Hard

Nuno Espirito Santo

The Portuguese has played a key role, providing an assist against Spurs and getting his name on the scoresheet in the 3-1 win over the Black Cats.

The results have hauled the Hammers to within two points of safety at the bottom of the Premier League table and staying up could prove crucial to keeping Fernandes at the club.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid may look to make a move for Fernandes in the summer if West Ham are relegated, because he is reported to have, not a release clause but a relegation clause in his contract that says he can leave east London if the Hammers fall into the Championship.

Fernandes has been an integral player in what has been a difficult season for West Ham, starting 20 of the 21 Premier League games he has been at the club for.

Mateus Fernandes Could Be A Big Star

Mateus Fernandes

Former Southampton midfielder Jo Tessem described him as the “ultimate Premier League midfielder” last year.

He said: “Mateus Fernandes is on people’s radar because every week he plays his heart out, he is by far the best player on the football pitch from a Saints perspective.”

“He is becoming an ultimate Premier League midfielder, and clubs are not going to let that go.

“He plays like a Premier League player. He passes like a Premier League player. He is quick like a Premier League player. He conducts himself so well in midfield.”

Real Madrid Have Other Transfer Options

Manchester City's Rodri playing against Bournemouth

Real Madrid are understood to be tracking the situations of Vitinha at Paris Saint-Germain and Rodri at Manchester City ahead of a summer transfer, but Fernandes could be the outside option and the cheapest of the three deals to conclude too, if the Hammers do not survive in the Premier League this season.

West Ham would be loathe to lose such an important player but if they were to do so they would be looking to recoup as much of, if not more, than the £40million they splashed out on the 21-year-old.

Eagle-eyed viewers have spotted that Brazil wore a different FIFA World Cup 2026 badge to the rest of the national teams that have competed in this summer’s tournament so far.

Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Czech Republic, Canada, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Qatar, Switzerland, Morocco, Haiti, Scotland, United States, Paraguay, Australia and Turkey all played with white or dark variations of the FIFA badge on their jerseys.

Brazil’s, on the other hand, was gold. Naturally, this left many football fans puzzled.

There are so many initiatives these days that it can be hard to keep up. For example, players appearing in a World Cup finals match for the first time will wear a new ‘debut’ patch.

Just seven of the 48 teams competing at the 2026 World Cup will wear the gold FIFA badge on their shirts, including Brazil.

While the Selecao haven’t lifted the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy since Ronaldo Nazario inspired them to glory in 2002, they remain the competition’s most successful nation.

Their 2002 triumph was the fifth time Brazil have been crowned champions, following their victories in 1958, 1962, 1970 and 1994.

Only teams that have previously won the World Cup can wear the badge. The other six teams are:

Brentford Set to Make Approach to Beat Arsenal to Jeremy Monga

One of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals is set to attempt to hijack their move to sign a young star ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are acting fast in the summer window as they look to improve their squad heading into the 2026-2027 season.

Arsenal enjoyed a phenomenal campaign last time out, reaching the Champions League final before losing to Paris Saint-Germain while also lifting the Premier League title.

Although they shouldn’t need a host of reinforcements to battle for the title once again, Mikel Arteta’s side will be looking to bring in new additions to go one step further in the Champions League.

The North London club also won’t want to rest on what they’ve already built, looking to dominate English football for the future.

According to a report from The Times, one of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals is set to make an approach to try and sign Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga in the summer transfer window.

That side is Brentford, who are now expected to make formal contact with Leicester over a move, despite the Gunners identifying Monga as a priority target.

The 16-year-old has been tracked by a number of clubs, and Brentford could hold an advantage in the race due to being able to offer more game time than Arsenal.

Previous reports had suggested that Arsenal were advancing in talks to sign the young star who has previously been described as ‘England’s Ousmane Dembele‘.

Brentford Could Beat Arsenal in Race

Jeremy Monga

Monga, described as ‘special’, will find it incredibly difficult to break into Arsenal’s senior squad, especially in the next couple of years.

Brentford are more likely to offer him regular minutes, especially in the near future, and they’ve regularly offered young talent game time.

The Gunners might have a plan for Monga to go out on loan to continue gaining first-team experience, but either way, the Bees might present a clearer pathway.

It looks set to be a competitive race to secure the signature of the 16-year-old, and he certainly has some tough decisions to make in terms of choosing his next club.

Ipswich Eyeing Derek McInnes Hijack Amid Rangers Pursuit

Rangers are pushing to appoint Hearts manager Derek McInnes as their new manager, but a Premier League club wants to hijack the move.

Rangers manager Danny Rohl is a target for RB Salzburg, and the Austrian side are closing in on appointing him as their new boss.

The Glasgow giants are working quickly to find a replacement, with McInnes targeted as their priority option.

McInnes is in line to replace Rohl at Ibrox, with Rangers making a huge move to poach him from their Scottish rivals.

A deal is yet to be 100% confirmed, leaving the door open for another club to make a move and hijack the appointment.

Rangers need to act fast, as they could miss out on their priority target.

According to a report from Football Insider, Ipswich Town, who were recently promoted to the Premier League, want to interview McInnes to become their next manager.

Ipswich are in the market for a replacement for Kieran McKenna, who confirmed that he would be taking a step away from football, leaving the club following their promotion.

Ipswich could now be entering the battle alongside Rangers for McInnes, despite reports suggesting that Rangers have agreed a deal.

It’s unclear whether McInnes would be interested in a move to Ipswich, but Rangers will likely be worried about a potential hijack.

It can now be a competitive race for the signature of McInnes, who helped transform Hearts during the 2025-2026 season.

Rangers Will be Sweating Over Ipswich Interest

As mentioned, it’s unclear whether McInnes would even be interested in a move to Ipswich, but it is often the goal of many managers to work in the Premier League.

Being a Scottish manager himself, McInnes might be looking to stay in his home country rather than making the move down south.

Despite that, managing in the Premier League is often an attractive prospect to many, and he could be tempted if Ipswich make an official move.

Either way, Rangers will be sweating over the potential interest from Ipswich, and they’ll be hoping to get a deal officially confirmed as soon as possible.
