Tottenham Eyeing Marco Palestra as Pedro Porro Replacement
Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move to sign Atalanta’s rising star Marco Palestra this summer as they look to rebuild their squad, according to Sports Boom.
The Lilywhites have had a horrific season and are currently battling against relegation from the Premier League, sitting just one point above the drop zone ahead of their trip to Anfield to face Liverpool this weekend, while they’re also clinging on in the Champions League Last 16 round following a 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in midweek.
But results this season have led to a number of top stars considering their future in north London, and that has seen the Spurs board start to make plans for the next campaign.
Tottenham Eyeing Palestra as Porro Replacement
One such player who has been linked with a move away from the club is Pedro Porro, with the right-back understood to be frustrated at Spurs, and garnering interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
Tottenham don’t want to lose a key player, but could find themselves in a difficult situation if big offers are made, and the recruitment department has already made club chiefs aware of a potential replacement for the Spaniard.
Young defender Palestra, who is currently on loan at Cagliari from Atalanta, has had a fine campaign in Serie A so far this season, and he has caught the attention of those in north London.
It’s understood that Spurs want to bring someone in to replace Porro who is just as strong going forward but also more steady defensively, with scout reports on the Italian labelling him as an ‘ideal successor’.
The 20-year-old, described as a ‘one of the most exciting wing-backs in Europe’, is someone seen as a ‘gem’ at Atalanta, and that has seen them slap a £43m price tag on his head to ensure that they get maximum value if anyone does firm up their interest with a formal offer.
Who is Marco Palestra?
Palestra is an exciting full-back with great pace, aggression, and an ability on the ball to get forward and be dangerous in and around the opposition box too.
GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT to break down his style of play, including strengths and weaknesses, and how he would fit in at Tottenham, and this was its response:
- Position/profile: Attack-minded right-back/wing-back; former midfielder, comfortable in build-up and tactical systems.
- Strengths: Composed passer, dangerous crosser, intelligent positioning, versatile (overlapping, inverted, or wing-back), strong stamina and forward runs.
- Weaknesses: Lacks physical power, aerial dominance, and sometimes too safe in possession or not aggressive enough defensively.
- Tottenham fit: Suits possession build-up and attacking full-back role; could rotate with/replace Pedro Porro as a technical, progressive RB. Potential long-term project rather than instant starter.

Oscar Piastri Considering Activating His Release Clause and Terminating His Contract
A shock seat swap in Formula One could be on the cards for next season.
The F1 season has been full of its usual twists and turns, both on and off the track. The latest reports, however, suggest one of the most dramatic transfers could well unfold. And this rumour appears to have more substance than the usual ‘Silly Season’ gossip.
As F1 approaches its summer break, the drivers and their camps plot out potential moves. As it becomes clear which constructors have the fastest cars and which driver in their pairings has priority, tensions and frustrations can rise. This has been particularly true in the McLaren camp.
While they produced the fastest cars last season, they have been off the pace this year. That, in addition to their ‘papaya rules’, has led Oscar Piastri to become increasingly upset with the team. The Australian has been linked with a move away since the end of the 2025 season, when he lost out on the championship to his teammate Lando Norris.
Driver Unhappy With His Current Team
Piastri and his team believe he has been treated unfairly under the papaya rules. These are a set of guidelines that are intended to foster clean racing by allowing them to race, but must do so without any contact.
However, it has caused some controversy, particularly due to its inconsistent application in situations where McLaren have issued team instructions to Piastri, ordering him to allow his teammate Norris through. This has caused a strained relationship between his manager, Mark Weber, and the team.
F1 Driver Shocked Paddock With What He Said to Netflix Cameras at British Grand Prix
It was so out of character for the driver…
With speculation mounting, it may be that his decision has now been made. The 24-year-old has a contract with the Woking outfit until 2028, but it has recently been revealed that he has an exit clause that could see him leave should he be outside the top five by summer break. Piastri currently sits in sixth with two races to go.
A report by Grande Premio claims that he is weighing up ‘activating his release clause and terminating his contract.’ The papaya rules, the 2025 season, and an underwhelming performance in the current season, have fractured his relationship with McLaren and ‘exposed internal friction’ between Webber and the British outfit’s leadership.
If Piastri is to leave, it would free up the possibility of F1’s biggest shock since Lewis Hamilton‘s move to Ferrari: Max Verstappen to McLaren.
Driver Swap Could Take Place
Like Piastri, Verstappen has cut a frustrated figure at his outfit. He has been transparent about his anger at the new regulations and has openly criticised the RB22 on multiple occasions. Amid speculation that he plans to leave Red Bull, or potentially even F1, rumours have spread linking him to McLaren.
Verstappen has a similar exit clause in his contract allowing him to leave should he finish outside the top two by the summer break. That condition has been fulfilled as the Dutchman cannot mathematically catch George Russell in second.
Should both claims come to fruition, the most likely outcome is a swapping of the seats, which would see Verstappen race in the orange of McLaren while Piastri would join Red Bull.
With McLaren, alongside just about every outfit, longtime admirers of Verstappen, and Red Bull viewing Piastri as a successor to the Dutchman, this move makes a great deal of sense for all parties involved. However, nothing is concrete yet, with Webber also talking to Audi over a potential deal for his driver.

Fabrizio Romano Says Chelsea Already Have ‘Agreement’ with Pep Chavarria
Chelsea are said to be pushing ahead with their next deal after their big-money signing of Marco Palestra. The Blues are backing Xabi Alonso this summer as they look to strengthen this squad to the point of being clear top four candidates after a season that saw them miss out on Europe altogether.
Chelsea were better than their final league position, but it was a chaotic season at the club, leading to two managerial sackings, and most were left wondering how differently the season would have ended had they simply stuck with Maresca, but relationships were splintered, leading to his sacking.
Alonso is now in charge, and there is excitement about the new playing identity the Spaniard will give the Blues. But that identity is not going to come without new signings, and right-back Palestra was the first to arrive, not including the pre-planned signing of Geovany Quenda.
Chelsea pressing ahead with Chavarria deal
Chelsea’s next main target is Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria, who is being seen as the Mar Cucurella replacement. Fabrizio Romano believes a deal is close, with the Blues set to return with a fresh approach.
“For Chelsea, we have to keep a close eye on the situation of Pep Chavarria, because Pep Chavarria is ready to go to Chelsea,” Romano said on his YouTube show.
“There is an agreement of personal terms between Rayo Vallecano and Chelsea. From what I understand, they are ready to send a new official bid, so Chelsea will return to the table with a new proposal for Chavarria, and he could be the next signing for Chelsea in terms of full-backs, after Marco Palestra on the right.”
Chavarria is said to have a release clause worth £21.5million, and Rayo are said to be demanding the full clause is reached and paid if they are to sell.
Chavarria a player who always wants to learn
Now former Rayo Vallecano boss Inigo Perez, who has since joined Villarreal, said that Chavarria was “a luxury to have in the team,” with the full-back helping the Vallecas side to the Conference League final last season.
Speaking about his own progress, Chavarria said late last season: “I’m not the same player as when I arrived. I have learned a lot. The boss has helped me progress in what I needed to improve and I’m very happy because I keep learning every day.”
“My mentality year after year has been growing, and now as a reward, you find yourself in the Conference League quarter-finals and you are able to win.”

Most Popular Sports in America [Ranked]
The 2026 World Cup brought the United States into the limelight on the global sporting stage, but football (or soccer) is far from the main event when it comes to viewership.
As a nation, the revenue they generate across all sports makes up around 40 per cent of the global total, and the demand is certainly there.
Having a monopoly on American Football, baseball and basketball makes them among the favourites, but the rise in attention for football is the biggest upwards trend in recent years.
With that in mind, we’ve ranked the most popular sports in America from the latest data available, ranked in terms of popularity from a study by The Economist.
8
Golf (2%)
Ranking at the bottom of a study by The Economist (2%) asking fans for their favourite sport, it reflects the general interest in the sport across the world. Whilst the PGA Tour is regularly screened and spoken about, peaking around The Ryder Cup and other majors, the numbers show it has struggled to gain ground.
A report from Gallup shows it has been in a battle with tennis over the years at the lower end, and L.E.K. Consulting suggests one reason may be that it is not attracting younger viewers, with 30+ being the target audience.
7
Boxing/MMA (3%)
Dana White‘s UFC has been at the forefront of combat sports for two decades, reaching peak popularity in the mid 2010s. A lack of superstar profiles has seen it dip in recent years, but there remains huge interest both in the US and globally, and the recent White House card brought significant traction.
For Boxing, the decline has been steady. Years gone by saw global sensations such as Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr draw incredible interest.
Nowadays, there are no American heavyweight contenders, and whilst there are incredible fighters such as Shakur Stevenson, Jaron Ennis and, until recently, Terence Crawford, none can match that star power.

Tennis (3%)
Whilst the US Open is a significant competition, Tennis in America has struggled to capture significant attention. Ben Shelton may be the fan favourite, but gone are the likes of the Williams sisters, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and even Andy Roddick. It sits slightly above Boxing, MMA and Golf but is unlikely to break Ice Hockey or Football anytime soon.
5
Ice Hockey (4%)
The National Hockey League sits outside the elite sports in America and has seemingly maintained a consistent fanbase, according to Gallup. Its share from 2004 to 2023 held firm at around four percent across that period.
However, there are contrasting figures from different studies. The headline is that casual interest is up, but avid fans are down. The Seton Hall Sports Poll showed the largest growth in popularity from 2022 to 2026, up six points, but L.E.K. reported fewer avid fans in general, falling eight percent.

Baseball (9%)
Traditionally a fan favorite, it has seemingly been overtaken, slightly, by football’s rise. Major League Baseball has historically contended for the second most adored sport with basketball, with Gallup showing that in eight readings between 2004 and 2023, it had the edge at four and tied with another.
L.E.K. revealed that MLB is more popular with fans over 30 than the younger 18–29 demographic. Given the slower nature of the game, it favors older fans, who also like Golf and College Football, with younger audiences less likely to view full games.
Figures from The Economist show football captured 10% of fans’ favourite sport in the study, edging out baseball into third place. Increased TV coverage, the arrival of star names and more infrastructure have all contributed. The rise has skyrocketed thanks to Lionel Messi‘s arrival in the MLS, with Inter Miami a home for former European stars.
With the World Cup enhancing that further, and Mauricio Pochettino‘s current impact, expect it to grow.

2
Basketball (17%)
The National Basketball Association has always been amongst the most popular due to the global superstars that consistently bring eyes to the sport. It scores incredibly well with younger fans, and the Knicks‘ recent title — their first in 53 years — brought about interest globally that became a cultural phenomenon.
One area growing the quickest is the WNBA, with L.E.K. showing a 65% year-over-year increase in avid fandom. It remains the fastest growing sport according to their figures.
Any data found on US sports points to one conclusion: American Football is untouchable. The National Football League sits alone at the top of the entire sports landscape. The Super Bowl annually ranks as the biggest sporting event on the US calendar, and draws high viewing figures for the entirety of the games, according to L.E.K.
Only one area has stood out: its avid fan level is lower in the 18-29 range, with younger fans opting for NBA and UFC — but, overall, it reigns supreme.
