Jamie Vardy Struggling For Form Amid Cremonese Relegation Fears

Published

on

After an iconic 13-year spell at Leicester City, Jamie Vardy shocked many as he left the Foxes and moved to Italy last summer. Aged 38, he signed for Serie A side Cremonese as a free agent.

Having won the Premier League and the FA Cup during his time at Leicester, the English striker made plenty of headlines with his late career move to Lombardy, Italy. Adapting to a new league while playing for a team in Cremonese, who only managed promotion to the Italian top-flight via the playoffs, Vardy wasn’t exactly going to be able to put his feet up and enjoy a chilled swansong in Serie A.

Now, eight months after his contract with the Foxes ended, it’s worth taking the time to see how he’s getting on currently at the Stadio Giovanni Zini. The Englishman certainly started brightly, but his fortunes have faded of late.

Vardy Was Initially on Fire in Italy

Up until January, it could be said that Vardy had impressed most during the first half of his debut season in Italy. It may have taken the Englishman four games to bag his first goal for Cremonese, finding the back of the net in a 1-1 draw against Atalanta, but he then followed that up with a strike in a 2-1 loss to Serie A giants Juventus.

More goals and good performances followed and Vardy picked up the Serie A Player of the Month in November, becoming the first English player in history to win the award. The Athletic’s Italian football expert James Horncastle spoke highly of the striker, saying:

“A week ago, Vardy left the Renato Dall’Ara with the player-of-the-match award. The brace he scored shattered Bologna’s dreams of going within a point of the league leaders. His goals were delightfully direct. The first: a long ball from the goalkeeper, a knock-down, second ball, through ball and one-v-one. The second: a long ball, a first-time volleyed cross and near-post finish.”

By early January, Vardy had scored five league goals and picked up one assist in 14 games – making for 5 goals and one assist in 24 Serie A outings in total. The player had signed a one-year deal, but there were even talks of a contract extension with Cremonese sitting as high as 13th in Serie A.

Since then, however, things have turned for the worse.

In his following nine league outings for Cremonese, Vardy has failed to score a single goal

Vardy or register an assist. The Italian club have also failed to win any games in that time, or in 2026 as a whole, with their last victory coming at home against Lecce on 12 December 2025.

Things aren’t looking so good for Vardy and his team, with Cremonese now 18th in Serie A, three points from safety with just nine games to save themselves. Adding to the woes, the Englishman was hooked at half-time as he picked up an injury against Lecce.

Cremonese lost that game to their relegation rivals, who sit three points above them now, and then Vardy was absent the following week as his team suffered a 4-1 thrashing at home against Fiorentina. Prior to that, Vardy was handed a 5/10 player rating by both TuttoSport and Football Italia against AC Milan, as he failed to make an impact during the 2-0 defeat.

These teams are among the most historic in the sport.

It now looks as though Vardy will face an uphill battle to help his side avoid dropping into Serie B. It remains unclear whether or not he’ll stay in Italy for another season, but it seems likely that his future will depend on how these final months of the season play out in Cremonese’s fight to stay up.

At the very least, club director general Paolo Armenia has claimed that Cremonese love having their English visitors, with many Leicester fans travelling to watch their club legend play in Italy.

“We have been deeply impressed by the enthusiasm of Leicester supporters, particularly their remarkable turnout at our stadium,” Armenia told The Athletic. He added: “Since the beginning of the season, over 400 fans have travelled from the United Kingdom to attend our Serie A matches. We recognise that those who undertake such a journey do so out of a pure passion and love for football.”

The 2026 World Cup is finally here and, for the first time ever, 48 teams will compete at the showpiece international tournament.

More than 3.5 million spectators attended the 1994 World Cup in the United States – a record that still stands 32 years and seven World Cups later.

That record is finally set to be broken this summer as fans from across the world pay eye-watering sums of money to see their teams live in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Billions more will watch the action unfold at home, cheering on their teams while watching on TV.

2026 World Cup Fans Ranked

But who are the best supporters at the tournament? Grok AI has ranked every nation’s fanbase from 48th place to 1st.

“This subjective list focuses on passion, loyalty, atmosphere (chants/tifo/noise), travel support, and overall reputation,” Grok explains. “It draws from historical World Cup behaviour, ultras culture, and fan engagement patterns.”

It adds: “This is for entertainment – every nation brings proud supporters, and actual 2026 atmospheres will vary by results, venues (North American hosts favor CONMEBOL/CONCACAF travel), and local turnout. African and South American fans frequently create the most memorable vibes; European fans dominate in sheer organisation and scale. Enjoy the tournament!”

Lower Volume but Present Passion (48th-40th)

Let’s start with the teams at the bottom of the list, then. We’ve got most of the so-called tournament ‘minnows’ in this section including Cape Verde, Qatar, Curacao and Haiti, who were ordered by FIFA to change their kit design on the eve of the tournament. Joint tournament hosts Canada are there, too.

With smaller fanbases, it’s perhaps no real surprise that these countries find themselves in the bottom section. But they’ll all be aiming to punch above their weight over the coming weeks and months.

Kimi Antonelli Mocks Kim Kardashian For Stealing His Towel at Monaco GP

Mercedes driving duo Kimi Antonelli and George Russell have reacted to the former’s towel being stolen by American media personality Kim Kardashian following the Monaco Grand Prix this past weekend.

Kardashian, currently in a relationship with Ferrari driver and seven-time Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton, has brought increased attention to the F1 world in recent months and that was taken to another level this past weekend in Monaco.

The race weekend at Circuit de Monaco was the first that Kardashian had attended in person since beginning a relationship with Hamilton, and her presence had the media swarming around her every move and trying to land an interview with her.

Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle, famous for speaking to famous names on the grid before a race, attempted to speak to Kardashian, but was met with an unenthusiastic response by the 45-year-old and her entourage.

Kardashian would go on to witness her partner finish second in Sunday’s chaotic race, which saw seven drivers, including Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and Charles Leclerc not finish. This was Hamilton’s third podium finish of the 2026 season, and he currently sits second in the Drivers’ Championship.

Hamilton was pipped to first place by the current leader of the driver standings, Antonelli, with the victory impressively being the teenage Italian’s fifth in six races this season.

Towel Gate at Monaco Grand Prix

The viral towel incident soon followed the raising of the chequered flag as Kardashian was caught stealing the towel reserved for Antonelli. Usually, there are towels left for the three drivers who finish on the podium at an F1 race to help them get cleaned up before the post-race ceremony and celebration.

This act by Kardashian likely left Antonelli confused and without a towel to wipe himself down after a long afternoon driving around the Circuit de Monaco.

Lewis Hamilton Speaks Out About Kim Kardashian After Heavy Backlash For Monaco Grand Prix Actions

Kim Kardashian’s actions on the grid walk angered a lot of Formula 1 fans.

Mercedes‘ driving duo have now playfully responded to the viral incident in the days since the Monaco GP through a funny skit in a new social media post.

The now-viral video shows Antonelli saying to the camera: “I was wondering, have you seen my towel?”, before Russell is seen stating that he has no knowledge of the towel’s whereabouts.

The video then concludes with Antonelli washing his hands in a sink, before looking up and asking: “Hey, have you seen my towel?”

While some F1 fans may be irritated by Kardashian’s new-found presence in the racing world, and be uninterested in her appearances at race weekends, the sport is likely to experience a new level of exposure due to her relationship with Hamilton.

Body Language Expert Reveals Lewis Hamilton and Kim Kardashian’s Relationship Red Flags

Maybe all is not as it seems between the power couple, as a body language expert analyses this past weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix.

It remains to be seen whether Kardashian makes another appearance at an F1 race weekend again this season or if she limits herself to only a few visits due to the mass media attention her presence causes.

It is reasonable to presume that she will next be there to support Hamilton for his home race at the British Grand Prix next month as opposed to the next couple of Grands Prix in Barcelona and Austria.

Man Utd Exploring Move for Liverpool Winger Isaac Konde

Manchester United are now exploring a move to sign Liverpool wonderkid Isaac Konde in a potential double transfer swoop on their rivals, according to the Secret Scout.

Man United are making a big push to strengthen their first-team squad this summer, with a full agreement to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson already reached.

The Brazilian will be far from the last signing at Old Trafford this summer though, with David Ornstein predicting that they will be the busiest Premier League club in the market.

The Red Devils could add up to two more midfielders after Ederson, should Manuel Ugarte join Casemiro in leaving United during the close season.

United are also looking at the left-back position, where they are said to have held positive talks with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, while they could look at the left-sided attacking position too amid admiration from both Michael Carrick and Jason Wilcox for Aston Villa and England star Morgan Rogers.

The Red Devils also have a big focus on adding the best youngsters around to the club, with the notable additions of Chido Obi, Ayden Heaven, Sekou Kone and Diego Leon in recent seasons.

Now, they are targeting two more in a similar vein.

Man United Exploring Double Liverpool Transfer Swoop

Jason Wilcox

According to Secret Scout, posting on X, United chiefs now have their eye on adding two promising youngsters from arch-rivals Liverpool to their squad.

Firstly, the Red Devils are exploring a move for 16-year-old winger Isaac Konde, with the post suggesting that the attacker is emerging as a key target for the club.

Contact between the club and Konde’s representatives have already taken place, as United look to get a deal across the line.

Konde isn’t the only target from Liverpool though, with the club also looking at a deal for his striker teammate Vincent Joseph at the same time.
