Man Utd In Talks To Sign £75m Star As Top Target To Replace Casemiro Emerges

Published

on

Manchester United have been in talks with Brighton for more than a month about a move to sign Carlos Baleba this summer, according to a report.

United are in the market for a new midfielder in the summer transfer window, and may even look to add two new midfield players, with Casemiro leaving the club at the end of his current contract.

A number of big-name players have been linked, with the likes of Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Sandro Tonali understood to be high on the Red Devils’ wishlist alongside Baleba.

But the Brighton star has long been admired by those behind the scenes at Old Trafford, with United attempting to sign him last summer.

Indeed, the Athletic reported last summer that Baleba had ‘agreed personal terms’ to make the move to Old Trafford, although the clubs were unable to agree a fee for his services.

The 22-year-old has not had his best season on the south coast in comparison to the previous two campaigns he enjoyed upon his arrival in the Premier League, but that has not deterred United in their attempts to sign him.

And he has once again emerged as the No.1 candidate to replace Casemiro, with reports earlier in the week that the Red Devils were in pole position to sign him this summer.

Now it has emerged via a United insider account that the club has been in talks with Baleba and his camp for the past month as they step up their interest in the Cameroonian international.

Personal terms are unlikely to be a problem, given the agreement the club and player reached last summer, with talks still ongoing between representatives ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

Brighton were demanding a figure in the region of £100million last summer and that price tag is unlikely to change too much this summer, although there were reports he could be available for around £75million this time around.

Brighton Stance Changes On Carlos Baleba Transfer

Speaking during the January transfer window, Brighton CEO Paul Barber said: “No call from Old Trafford. No call from anyone connected to Manchester United.

“We have no plans or desire to sell Carlos in this window, or in any future window, but we know he’s a talented player and he’s got a lot of options ahead of him in the future.”

United are going to have to splash the cash for whoever they make a move for this summer, with the other candidates in Wharton, Anderson and Tonali in a similar ballpark for overall transfer price.

The final decision on midfielder signings will come down to who the new manager will be at the end of the 2025/26 season, with other reports emerging that United were working on a deal to sign Tonali and that the Newcastle United star was open to the move.

Tottenham Should Sacrifice Mathys Tel in Swap Deal to Sign Alex Scott

Tottenham Hotspur are moving full steam ahead with their transfer plans under Roberto De Zerbi.

The Italian came in last season and helped rescue Spurs from what would have proven a disastrous relegation, with the North London club securing their survival on the final day.

Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson have both arrived on free transfers as De Zerbi looks for more players who can provide experience and leadership for next campaign.

They are in talks with Manchester City over a deal for Savinho and have submitted two bids for Jan Paul van Hecke.

After finishing 17th in the Premier League, there will inevitably be exits from the club before the 2026/27 season gets underway.

There are reports Mathys Tel’s future at the club is in doubt, just 12 months on from his £30million switch from Bayern Munich.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who report that a ‘shock’ move to Bournemouth is on the cards for Tel. The Frenchman joined Spurs permanently 12 months ago, after spending the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan in North London.

Tottenham’s preference is keep to Tel but the player is said to be frustrated by his ‘limited’ role at the club and is keen to move somewhere he will play more regularly.

The Cherries are named as ‘concrete suitors’ for the player, as he explores his options. Porto are also credited with an interest alongside Ligue 1 side Lille and Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

Tel has struggled to establish himself at Tottenham since his move and despite showing flashes of potential, he remains a fringe player. He scored four goals in 31 Premier League appearances last season. He was only named in the starting XI for 13 of those games.

Tottenham should use swap deal to sign Alex Scott

Alex Scott

GIVEMESPORT has reported that Spurs target Alex Scott is valued at £80million by Bournemouth. With no European football, Tottenham will have to be shrewd in the transfer market.

They have already made smart moves for Senesi and Robertson, with both players arriving on free transfers.

Manchester United and Liverpool are also clubs credited with an interest in Scott. If Spurs could offer Tel as part of a player-plus-cash swap deal, it could give them the edge in the race for the in-demand Scott.

United and Liverpool can both offer the player European football but if they are unwilling to meet the Cherries’ £80million asking price, they will struggle to get any potential deal over the line.

For Spurs, negotiations could be made easier if Tel is included in any deal. Scott, according his former manager Nigel Pearson, is ‘destined for the elite’ – and this summer could be Tottenham’s best chance to sign a player who supported Tottenham as a boy.

Donald Trump Going Against World Cup ‘Contractual Guarantees’

Published

Serious questions have already been asked about FIFA’s decision to award the 2026 World Cup to the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.

Multiple controversies hit the biggest competition in world football before a ball had even been kicked, with many involving the President of the United States, Donald Trump. First, many European nations considered boycotting the tournament due to his attempted takeover of Greenland.

Then the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran, whose participation at the World Cup has been in constant doubt ever since. In the days leading up to the opening game between Mexico and South Africa, there have been even more issues surrounding entry to the host nations.

FIFA ‘Contractual Guarantees’ Not Being Met By the United States

Top African referee, Omar Artan, was denied entry to America, while fans of various nations have faced visa issues. Iran have also failed to secure a training base in the US, despite their three group stage games being held in the country.

Instead, they’ve been forced to prepare for the World Cup in Mexico and will have to commute in and out of the US within 24 hours of all games they play. Being accessible to all participating nations is actually a ‘contractual guarantee’ considered by FIFA before awarding the World Cup to any country.

World Cup Nation Says US Have Revoked Their Ticket Allocation as Statement Released

They have released a statement with many now unable to attend their team’s matches.

Journalist Miguel Delaney informed LBC that football’s governing body takes into account the accessibility of a host nation when considering bids for the World Cup. He said:

“When a World Cup is awarded, there are a number of contractual provisions about how a tournament basically has to give certain guarantees, literal guarantees, of the terms used about freedom of movement for participating nations and entry.”

He then pointed out the close relationship between Trump and FIFA boss Gianni Infantino, stating: “FIFA, evidently, despite Infantino’s very craven relationship with Donald Trump, hasn’t been able to secure those guarantees.”

Infantino himself previously expressed the need for the biggest international competition to be available and accessible to everyone. Or else there would be ‘no World Cup’, in his eyes. Per Delaney (via The Independent), the FIFA president said in 2017:

“It’s obvious when it comes to Fifa competitions, any team, including the supporters and officials of that team, who qualify for a World Cup need to have access to the country, otherwise there is no World Cup.”

‘I’m a 10-Handicap Golfer – Here’s What I Scored Around Shinnecock Ahead of the 2026 US Open’

The best golfers on the planet will be heading to Shinnecock Hills next week for the US Open, and it has proven a challenge for many players.

The last time the tournament was in Long Island was in 2018, and it was Brooks Koepka who picked up the title in difficult circumstances that year, with strong winds and rough penal meaning he only finished one-over-par.

Rory McIlroy has already predicted that this year’s winner will be under par, but how would an average golfer get on at the infamous Long Island course?

Amateur Takes to Shinnecock Ahead of US Open

Bobby Fairways is a golf YouTuber for Bob Does Sports, and was down at Shinnecock Hills two weeks before the tournament gets underway, playing off a handicap of 10.

He played alongside Fat Perez and Joey Cold Cuts in gusts of up to 30 miles per hour to understand the difficulty of the course. The three of them were playing from the forward tees, a full 1,300 yards shorter than the full length that the professional golfers will be playing next week.

20 Golfers With Highest Career Earnings on PGA Tour

Three golfers have now earned over $100,000,000 on the PGA Tour, including Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

The results varied for the trio. Bobby Fairways scored a round of 99 across the par-70 layout, making two triple bogys, 10 double bogeys, three bogeys, and just three pars.

Fat Perez, meanwhile, who is an 11.2 handicap, scored much better with a 75, while Joey Cold Cuts went round in 83.

While Joey was the only golfer to shoot a birdie, doing so on holes 6 and 9, Perez was more consistent, shooting just five bogeys in total.

The slope rating of the course was 135. Being a 10-handicap player, Bobby would have received 13 strokes from the blue tees. From the tips, you would get 18 shots.

Though the handicap can be forgiving, the conditions faced are incredibly difficult if the wind does not work in your favour. So, while 99 looks terrible on paper, getting that on a windy day at Shinnecock is nothing to sneer at.

US Open 2026

Scottie Scheffler goes into the tournament as the favourite. He leads the PGA Tour in approach-shot strokes gained from 150 to 175 yards, the most important distance band at Shinnecock Hills if you compare it to 2018’s edition of the US Open.

The one element of the tournament that could best him, however, is the pressure. Scheffler is looking to complete the career Grand Slam and the knowledge that a difficult course is standing in between him and the history books might prove too much mentally.

The US Open kicks off on the 18th of June and runs through to the 21st.
