Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a major boost after Roberto De Zerbi opened up to accepting their offer to take over at the club this season and save them from relegation, according to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Spurs officially parted ways with interim boss Igor Tudor on Sunday night, just 44 days after he was appointed and following one win in seven games, leaving the team just one point above the relegation zone with seven games remaining.
Now the north London club are on the hunt for a new boss to save them from the drop, and after initially being against the idea, De Zerbi has now opened the door to potentially arriving immediately.
Tottenham Offer De Zerbi Five-Year Deal
De Zerbi, who has been described as ‘world-class’, has been the ‘dream’ target for the club’s board to be their next manager, with the original plan being to bring him in during the summer rather than this season.
The Italian was initially hoping to come in at the end of the season too, to provide him with enough time to build a competitive squad and get his ideas and philosophy embedded into the squad, while he also wanted to be sure that they would be in the Premier League.
However, he has now been given the opportunity to make sure of that himself, and after talks in recent hours he has now opened up to the idea of taking over in north London immediately.
Spurs have been pushing hard to convince him to change his mind, and the club has now tabled a five-year contract with the promise of building a strong and competitive team for next season in the transfer market. It’s believed the next few hours will be ‘crucial’ to whether he accepts or not.
