The Big Mistake Tottenham Are Making With Roberto De Zerbi

Published

on

Tottenham look set to appoint Roberto De Zerbi as their new permanent head coach this week on a long-term contract.

The Italian was initially reluctant to dive back in mid-season, preferring to wait until the summer to assess his options, having left Marseille in February. But a breakthrough in talks with Spurs has led to De Zerbi being the chosen one for now and the future, with a five-year contract on offer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

De Zerbi had been approached by Tottenham in the summer, following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, but rejected the opportunity to move to north London, with Spurs going after Thomas Frank instead.

It Is Panic Stations At Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have seven games to save their Premier League skin, with one point and one place separating themselves from the bottom three, meaning De Zerbi has to get to work quickly and get his philosophy and style of play drummed into a group of players who are low in confidence and have appeared to lack the stomach for the fight in recent weeks.

Former England international Stuart Pearce believes Spurs have made the wrong choice in bringing in a permanent successor to Igor Tudor now.

Speaking to Betway before the news of De Zerbi’s imminent appointment, he said: “I think it will be an interim situation. If I was Spurs, I wouldn’t be looking to put anyone in full-time. The way they’re looking right now, it will be panic stations.

“There’s no doubt a lot of money gets lost if you drop out of this division and a lot of rebuilding would need doing. They need to bring someone through the door on a short-term basis.

“As bizarre as it sounds, someone like Harry Redknapp who knows the club would give the fans a lift. He’s got the charisma and the personality to lift that dressing room over a short period of time.”

De Zerbi is clearly a coach for next season, but coming in now means he has a massive job on his hands in keeping Tottenham in the Premier League, before he can even think about what he’s going to do in 2026/27.

Pearce believes the players are to blame for the mess they are in.

He added: “I think he’s [Igor Tudor] come into a squad that look every inch a team that are not particularly reliable, so I feel half sorry for him. He’s not got them going in any way, shape or form.

“They certainly look like a team that think they’re too good to be where they are, but they’re not contributing with their performances and their togetherness.

“That is the biggest problem. It’s easy to say, get Tudor out, but they’ve just moved on, I thought, a fantastic manager in Thomas Frank. But for me, the questions would be in the dressing room, more so than the management level at Tottenham Hotspur.”

Paddy Pimblett’s Live Reaction to Ilia Topuria ‘Quitting’

Published

UFC star Paddy Pimblett had a lot to say regarding Ilia Topuria‘s shock loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250 over the weekend, going on quite the rant while watching the fight live for his YouTube channel.

Topuria went down to Gaethje following round four of their battle in the main event after some brutal shots from the American hurt and scarred him in round three. Then, some medical intervention and the team stepping in to throw in the towel meant the underdog for the fight came out on top as the new UFC lightweight champion.

Fans around the world were shocked by this result, and seemingly none more than Paddy Pimblett, who went on a scathing attack on Topuria following his defeat, both on social media via X and also on his vlog.

After the onslaught from Gaethje, Pimblett said, “Oh my god, he’s gonna to quit,” regarding Topuria, following this up with, “Oh my god, Ilia Topuria, you little b****.”

During the video, there are shots of the Georgian-Spanish fighter looking worse for wear while being checked on by his corner and medical staff. His face is the point of concern for them; his eyes are both swollen over, and it was clear that he was struggling to see properly. This may have left the team with little choice.

Pimblett seemed to think differently, however, saying: “I couldn’t see, and I carried on f****** fighting cos I’m not a little b****.”

This is in reference to the Englishman’s battle with Gaethje himself at the end of January, in which Pimblett lost via decision. He then claimed he ‘went five with the man and kept biting down on my gummy and swinging.’

A lot of money was spent by the UFC, not just on the White House.

Eventually, the decision was made after the fourth that Topuria would not be able to continue and The Baddy was disappointed to say the least.

“Oh my God, you quit, you little b****! You little p****! Look at him, b****! Quitney Houston.”

Not one to mince his words, especially towards rivals.

Pimblett was absent from the weekend’s monumental event, but made his presence felt nonetheless, as fans have come to expect.

Pimblett has not held back after his rival lost at the White House.

Next up for the Brit is a lightweight bout against Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 329 in the co-main event. He will be hoping his words don’t come back to haunt him when he faces the God of War Saint-Denis in Paradise, Nevada.

Why so Many Players Are Wearing Pink Boots

Why are so many footballers at the 2026 World Cup wearing bright pink boots?

This is a question many football fans are asking following the tournament’s opening group stage matches.

This summer’s showpiece international tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada got underway last Thursday and a host of players across various teams have come equipped with bright pink boots on their feet.

Take South Korea captain Son Heung-min, for example. The Tottenham legend, who now plies his trade with Los Angeles FC, was seen wearing a pair of pink football boots during the Group A clash against the Czech Republic.

Some of Son’s South Korea teammates followed suit. There were also many pink boots on display during the Group H clash between Saudi Arabia and Uruguay on Monday night, and during Iran’s opening game against New Zealand – a game that made headlines for the crowd’s reaction to Iran’s national anthem being played at the Los Angeles Stadium.

“People say it’s coincidence but it’s happened way too many times,” Ben Warren, founder of BW Boots UK, which specialises in finding rare and classic football boots and supplies several World Cup players, was quoted as saying by The Athletic.

“Different brands are releasing boots in more or less the same colours. We’ve seen boots looking quite similar in the last few years, but this World Cup is pretty much the exact same colour.”

Indeed, Nike, Adidas, Puma, New Balance and Skechers have all supplied players with variations of bright pink boots at the World Cup.

Odinga Nimako, a senior figure at Nike’s global football footwear team, has told The Athletic that high demand for bolder colours led to the company going for pink at this summer’s World Cup finals.

“What we’ve been hearing consistently from the athlete and the consumer, especially when it comes to big moments, is that bright colours give them confidence, so that was really our starting point,” Nimako said.

“The way we approached it was focusing on what are some of the brightest colours, what are those colours that are really amplifying that confidence, and pink is one of those colours.

“What we always hear from our consumers and athletes is when you wear a colour like pink that is so loud and so bright it is like… you need to be really good to wear these (colours) as well. At the same time, there’s also been a level of acceptance with pink that makes it not too niche for people, it speaks to a broad audience.”

Trials on the pitch showed Nike that nothing stood out more than pink. Nimako continued:

“Pink really helps bring it out against the green grass on the pitch, whether you’re in the stands or whether you’re watching on TV, making sure that visibility is there.

“That is definitely something that we looked at. For this (World Cup) moment we really wanted to focus on that visual impact.”

How Crowd Reacted to Iran’s National Anthem as FIFA’s World Cup Rule is Defied

The Los Angeles Stadium crowd made their feelings clear as Iran’s national anthem was played for the first time at the 2026 World Cup

He added: “Our intent was really to make sure that the boot stood out against the kit.

“In every tournament we can take a slightly different approach. We’ve seen approaches in the past where we actually want to be a little bit more integrated. At this tournament, knowing the magnitude, we really wanted to make it pop.”

The Athletic also claim that shoe companies discovered players associate bright colours with confidence, offering another explanation as to why bright pink is all the rage this summer.

Moreover, global trend agencies predicted the colour ‘Electric Fuchsia’ would be the ‘it’ colour of summer back in 2024, when designers began to play their 2026 World Cup lines, according to UniLad.

Product developers found that nothing ‘pops’ more vividly on televisions and smartphones than bright pink footwear – making the players’ boots and brand logos instantly recognisable from a distance.

UFC Freedom 250 Salaries For Topuria, Gaethje, Pereira, Gane

The estimated salaries have been revealed for this weekend’s UFC Freedom 250 event, which was held on the grounds of the White House and main evented by Justin Gaethje challenging Ilia Topuria for his lightweight title.

Despite there being serious weather warnings all week building up to the event, mother nature played ball and the storms and the rain avoided the White House altogether, although there was a minor delay at the start of the night.

Once the action got underway, it was quite simply a night to remember. All seven fights failed to go the distance, with knockouts and stoppages galore, and it was closed out by one of the biggest shocks in UFC history as Gaethje stopped Topuria ahead of the final round, becoming the lightweight champion in the process.

Medical Update Emerges on Ilia Topuria’s Condition After UFC Freedom 250

Reports have emerged revealing how Ilia Topuria is doing after his war with Justin Gaethje in front of the White House.

Aside from a minor sour note put on the event by Josh Hokit’s post-fight interview, overall it was a booming success for Dana White and the UFC. Having said that, though, it wasn’t successful enough to make him consider doing it for a second time, as after the show, he confirmed that it’s something he would never do again.

In the final bout of the evening, Gaethje came out victorious after a brutal combination in round three led to the opposing team throwing the towel in on Topuria’s behalf. This secured a stunning upset victory for the American, who defied the odds as the heavy-betting underdog heading into the contest.

It has now been revealed that the Georgian amazingly escaped with no serious facial injuries or breaks, despite it looking like that was the case. Either way, he will be out for a while to recover, no doubt.

Ciryl Gane Spoiled Alex Pereira’s Heavyweight Debut

In the co-main event, Ciryl Gane defeated Alex Pereira via TKO to become the interim UFC heavyweight champion.

Alarm bells were ringing for the Brazilian after a strong jab from his opponent dropped him in the second round, and a series of blows and hammerfists later resulted in referee Herb Dean stopping the contest, which could have come at any point, truth be told.

Gane has now set up a possible title unification fight against Tom Aspinall, who is still absent since his last contest with the Frenchman which ended in a nasty double eye poke back in October.

Elsewhere on the card, Diego Lopes kicked off the event with the nasty finish of American Steve Garcia. This was followed by Bo Nickal putting in an emphatic performance as he defeated Kyle Daukaus.

Michael Chandler was then destroyed by Mauricio Ruffy, and Josh Hokit breezed through his encounter with Derrick Lewis in a top-ranked heavyweight clash. Next up on the South Lawn was Sean O’Malley, who delivered a pronounced performance by defeating Aiemann Zahabi in the second round of their bantamweight clash, before calling for a shot to reclaim the title.

Pereira, despite defeat, walked out with the largest total purse at $10,000,000 for his unexpectedly short night. The man who beat him, meanwhile, brought home $1,225,000.

The main eventers were the next highest earners behind Pereira. Gaethje earned $2,925,000, while his defeated opponent took home $2,500,000, which may soften the blow of his damaging defeat.
