‘Real Reason’ Seth Rollins is Facing Gunther at WrestleMania 42
WWE confirmed a major match for WrestleMania 42 on this past week’s edition of Monday Night Raw as it was announced that Seth Rollins will square off with Gunther. The bout is a meeting of two of the company’s top stars, but it still came out of nowhere in the minds of many fans.
The Rollins vs Gunther match was set up on Monday night when ‘The Ring General’ returned to save Paul Heyman from a potential beating from Seth. The Austrian locked his foe in a sleeperhold, before declaring himself as the man who Rollins would face at ‘Mania.
A backstage report has now revealed how the match came together and explained what happened to the previously scheduled matches that were pencilled in for both Superstars.
How WWE’s WrestleMania Plans For Seth Rollins Changed
For much of 2026, it had appeared that Rollins was set to face his former stablemate in The Vision, Bron Breakker. The seeds for an eventual showdown between the pair were planted at the Royal Rumble when Bron was assaulted before entering the 30-man match by a masked man (who was later revealed to be Rollins).
However, the match hit a stumbling block when Breakker was forced out of action due to hernia surgery. Despite the issue, Breakker was expected to be back in time for the company’s biggest show of the year, which takes places at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on the 18th and 19th of April.
Regardless of whether ready to return to the ring, Breakker won’t be facing Rollins at WrestleMania. Veteran wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer confirmed in a tweet on Wednesday evening that the decision to go with the Rollins vs Gunther match had nothing to do with Bron’s injury status.
Additional reporting from Wrestlezone indicates that Gunther has been Rollins’ planned opponent “for weeks”, with several episodes of Raw having been written with the match in mind.
Why Gunther was Selected as Seth Rollins’ WrestleMania Opponent
Having retired both John Cena and AJ Styles in recent months, Gunther had been tipped for a major match at WrestleMania, with a match with Brock Lesnar reportedly being discussed for WWE’s resident ‘career-killer’.
The company eventually chose to go with Oba Femi as The Beast’s WrestleMania foe, and lined Gunther up for a clash with Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio at ‘Mania.
When the lucha libre legend sustained an injury, though, Gunther was left without a WrestleMania opponent, leading to a brief absence from television while WWE reshuffled the card.
Given that most other top names already had matches in place, the promotion made the call to have Gunther face Rollins instead of Breakker in order to keep the former World Heavyweight Champion on the card.
WWE’s Plans For Seth Rollins vs Bron Breakker Revealed
While WWE typically prefers to go all out for WrestleMania, the company also needs feuds and matches to help carry major shows in the weeks and months following its biggest show of the year.
By saving Rollins vs Breakker for a later date, WWE can also properly hype the match up on television, as opposed to rushing the build, purely so the contest can take place at WrestleMania.
Per Wrestlezone, Breakker has “reportedly earned medical clearance following hernia surgery”, but WWE believes in the “idea of saving Rollins vs. Breakker for a future program that can be properly built on television. Because in WWE, timing is everything, and patience can be a virtue.”
With that in mind, it would be no surprise to see Breakker involved in the finish of the Rollins vs Gunther match at WrestleMania. He may not be an official participant but could still make his presence known in Las Vegas in order to set the stage for a future showdown.

Why so Many Players Are Wearing Pink Boots
Why are so many footballers at the 2026 World Cup wearing bright pink boots?
This is a question many football fans are asking following the tournament’s opening group stage matches.
This summer’s showpiece international tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada got underway last Thursday and a host of players across various teams have come equipped with bright pink boots on their feet.
Players and Teams Wearing Pink Boots at 2026 World Cup
Take South Korea captain Son Heung-min, for example. The Tottenham legend, who now plies his trade with Los Angeles FC, was seen wearing a pair of pink football boots during the Group A clash against the Czech Republic.
Some of Son’s South Korea teammates followed suit. There were also many pink boots on display during the Group H clash between Saudi Arabia and Uruguay on Monday night, and during Iran’s opening game against New Zealand – a game that made headlines for the crowd’s reaction to Iran’s national anthem being played at the Los Angeles Stadium.
“People say it’s coincidence but it’s happened way too many times,” Ben Warren, founder of BW Boots UK, which specialises in finding rare and classic football boots and supplies several World Cup players, was quoted as saying by The Athletic.
“Different brands are releasing boots in more or less the same colours. We’ve seen boots looking quite similar in the last few years, but this World Cup is pretty much the exact same colour.”
Indeed, Nike, Adidas, Puma, New Balance and Skechers have all supplied players with variations of bright pink boots at the World Cup.

Why Bright Pink Boots Are so Popular at World Cup
Odinga Nimako, a senior figure at Nike’s global football footwear team, has told The Athletic that high demand for bolder colours led to the company going for pink at this summer’s World Cup finals.
“What we’ve been hearing consistently from the athlete and the consumer, especially when it comes to big moments, is that bright colours give them confidence, so that was really our starting point,” Nimako said.
“The way we approached it was focusing on what are some of the brightest colours, what are those colours that are really amplifying that confidence, and pink is one of those colours.
“What we always hear from our consumers and athletes is when you wear a colour like pink that is so loud and so bright it is like… you need to be really good to wear these (colours) as well. At the same time, there’s also been a level of acceptance with pink that makes it not too niche for people, it speaks to a broad audience.”
Trials on the pitch showed Nike that nothing stood out more than pink. Nimako continued:
“Pink really helps bring it out against the green grass on the pitch, whether you’re in the stands or whether you’re watching on TV, making sure that visibility is there.
“That is definitely something that we looked at. For this (World Cup) moment we really wanted to focus on that visual impact.”

How Crowd Reacted to Iran’s National Anthem as FIFA’s World Cup Rule is Defied
The Los Angeles Stadium crowd made their feelings clear as Iran’s national anthem was played for the first time at the 2026 World Cup
He added: “Our intent was really to make sure that the boot stood out against the kit.
“In every tournament we can take a slightly different approach. We’ve seen approaches in the past where we actually want to be a little bit more integrated. At this tournament, knowing the magnitude, we really wanted to make it pop.”
The Athletic also claim that shoe companies discovered players associate bright colours with confidence, offering another explanation as to why bright pink is all the rage this summer.
Moreover, global trend agencies predicted the colour ‘Electric Fuchsia’ would be the ‘it’ colour of summer back in 2024, when designers began to play their 2026 World Cup lines, according to UniLad.
Product developers found that nothing ‘pops’ more vividly on televisions and smartphones than bright pink footwear – making the players’ boots and brand logos instantly recognisable from a distance.

UFC Freedom 250 Salaries For Topuria, Gaethje, Pereira, Gane
The estimated salaries have been revealed for this weekend’s UFC Freedom 250 event, which was held on the grounds of the White House and main evented by Justin Gaethje challenging Ilia Topuria for his lightweight title.
Despite there being serious weather warnings all week building up to the event, mother nature played ball and the storms and the rain avoided the White House altogether, although there was a minor delay at the start of the night.
Once the action got underway, it was quite simply a night to remember. All seven fights failed to go the distance, with knockouts and stoppages galore, and it was closed out by one of the biggest shocks in UFC history as Gaethje stopped Topuria ahead of the final round, becoming the lightweight champion in the process.
Medical Update Emerges on Ilia Topuria’s Condition After UFC Freedom 250
Reports have emerged revealing how Ilia Topuria is doing after his war with Justin Gaethje in front of the White House.
Aside from a minor sour note put on the event by Josh Hokit’s post-fight interview, overall it was a booming success for Dana White and the UFC. Having said that, though, it wasn’t successful enough to make him consider doing it for a second time, as after the show, he confirmed that it’s something he would never do again.
Justin Gaethje Defeated Ilia Topuria
In the final bout of the evening, Gaethje came out victorious after a brutal combination in round three led to the opposing team throwing the towel in on Topuria’s behalf. This secured a stunning upset victory for the American, who defied the odds as the heavy-betting underdog heading into the contest.
It has now been revealed that the Georgian amazingly escaped with no serious facial injuries or breaks, despite it looking like that was the case. Either way, he will be out for a while to recover, no doubt.
Ciryl Gane Spoiled Alex Pereira’s Heavyweight Debut
In the co-main event, Ciryl Gane defeated Alex Pereira via TKO to become the interim UFC heavyweight champion.
Alarm bells were ringing for the Brazilian after a strong jab from his opponent dropped him in the second round, and a series of blows and hammerfists later resulted in referee Herb Dean stopping the contest, which could have come at any point, truth be told.
Gane has now set up a possible title unification fight against Tom Aspinall, who is still absent since his last contest with the Frenchman which ended in a nasty double eye poke back in October.
UFC Freedom 250 Results
Elsewhere on the card, Diego Lopes kicked off the event with the nasty finish of American Steve Garcia. This was followed by Bo Nickal putting in an emphatic performance as he defeated Kyle Daukaus.
Michael Chandler was then destroyed by Mauricio Ruffy, and Josh Hokit breezed through his encounter with Derrick Lewis in a top-ranked heavyweight clash. Next up on the South Lawn was Sean O’Malley, who delivered a pronounced performance by defeating Aiemann Zahabi in the second round of their bantamweight clash, before calling for a shot to reclaim the title.
UFC Freedom 250 Earnings
Pereira, despite defeat, walked out with the largest total purse at $10,000,000 for his unexpectedly short night. The man who beat him, meanwhile, brought home $1,225,000.
The main eventers were the next highest earners behind Pereira. Gaethje earned $2,925,000, while his defeated opponent took home $2,500,000, which may soften the blow of his damaging defeat.

Newcastle Want World Cup ‘Hero’ To Boost Eddie Howe’s Defence
Newcastle United are entering the summer transfer window with hopes of refreshing the squad with a few fresh faces, as reports have emerged over interest in a World Cup star.
The Magpies have already conducted some quick business in the transfer market, with Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona quickly being followed up by the signing of promising goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen.
Other moves could be on the cards, with plenty of exit links appearing next to some other potential moves, particularly in the forward areas.
Victor Munoz is a key target to replace Gordon, while a fresh target has emerged for the defensive line heading into this opening of the window.
Newcastle Want Australia Star Alessandro Circati
With potential defenders on the radar for Newcastle, a report from Italian outlet ParmaToday claims that Australia and Parma star Alessandro Circati has emerged as an option this summer.
The ‘underrated’ 22-year-old is believed to be a target for the Magpies, who have been “closely monitoring” the defender’s progress in recent months, which includes his recent performances at the World Cup with his national team.
Circati started for Australia in their World Cup opening group stage game against Turkiye, where they ran out as surprise 2-0 winners over the European nation, who were deemed as favourites for the clash.
It was a win characterised by the defensive solidity on show from Australia, with Circati starting as part of a back three that looked to snuff out any opportunities for the opposition.
The report claims that the defender is a “hero” for his performances for both club and country, having caught the eye in his time in Serie A before he got his eventual World Cup call-up.
That means not only Newcastle are interested in Circati, though it is unclear what Parma’s stance will be on a possible sale this summer.
