De Zerbi Suffers Tottenham Injury Blow as Star ‘Unable to Walk Upstairs’

Published

on

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has suffered an injury blow before he’s even taken his first training session after Senegal midfielder Pape Matar Sarr missed the match against Zambia on Tuesday.

De Zerbi is due to begin work with his full squad on Friday following the return of multiple stars from international duty, with the players said to be ‘excited’ at the prospect of working with the Italian.

The 46-year-old has signed a five-year deal at Tottenham with the club hoping he can lead the project to take the club back towards the top of the Premier League, starting with staving off relegation this term.

Dropping into the Championship is a huge concern for a Spurs side who have gone more than three months without a league win.

They will hope to pick up their first Premier League win of 2026 when they face Sunderland on April 12, with seven matches to ensure they remain in England’s top tier next term.

De Zerbi will already be concerned that he may have to do it without Sarr though.

Sarr Suffers Shoulder Injury for Senegal

Tottenham Hotspur's Pedro Porro is pushed away by Pape Matar Sarr.

According to the Independent, the 22-year-old midfielder has suffered a shoulder injury that caused him to miss Senegal’s clash with Zambia on Tuesday.

Sarr has become the tenth injured Tottenham player who could miss out on De Zerbi’s first match at the Stadium of Light, although there is hope that some of those will return for the trip to Wearside.

Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur and Ben Davies could all return to face Regis Le Bris’ men, and De Zerbi will be hoping that the situation is the same for Sarr too.

It appears as though there are already five guaranteed absences against the Black Cats though, with Wilson Odobert, James Maddison, Yves Bissouma, Guglielmo Vicario and Dejan Kulusevski looking set to miss the game.

A worrying update has emerged on the latter, who is still hoping to appear for Sweden at the World Cup in June.

Having been seen limping after meeting up with his Sweden teammates ahead of their crucial World Cup playoff matches, Kulusevski took to social media to provide a positive update on his recovery.

He posted on Instagram: “Just to clarify things. I’m limping because I had a small intervention in the knee 2 weeks ago. Went in and took out what was not supposed to be there. Knee is great now. Thanks for all the support. God is the greatest. Always.”

While saying that his knee is now ‘great’ after almost 12 months on the sidelines, journalist Ryan Taylor has confirmed on X that the 25-year-old is still ‘unable to walk upstairs’.

Tottenham will hope to have the Swede back for the start of next season, but the latest update hardly makes it sound like he will be appearing for Sweden in north America this summer, despite his desire to.

Tottenham Reach Full Agreement to Sign Jan Paul Van Hecke

Tottenham are close to making their third signing of the summer transfer window, as David Ornstein reports that an agreement has been reached with Brighton and Hove Albion to sign Jan Paul van Hecke.

Spurs have been pushing to land the Dutch defender this month, with several bids made to the Seagulls in an attempt to lure the star to North London.

After a few of those offers were turned down, it appears as though the Lilywhites have been successful in tempting Brighton to accept an offer, as Roberto De Zerbi now seems set for a reunion with the 26-year-old.

After making a push to sign Van Hecke, David Ornstein claims that an agreement has now been reached between clubs to get a deal over the line.

The transfer, in total, is worth £52 million as a fixed amount with no add-ons, with expectation now being that the 26-year-old will put pen to paper on a long-term contract with Tottenham.

The Dutch defender had just one year remaining on his contract at Brighton, with the Seagulls reluctantly accepting that a move would happen this summer.

While reports claimed that there was interest from other Premier League clubs, namely Liverpool and Chelsea, it seemed as though the centre-back was keen on joining Spurs instead.

Van Hecke played 50 times for De Zerbi during their time together at Brighton, before the head coach moved on to roles with Marseille and now Tottenham.

The move will reunite the pair, while adding to the defensive signings of Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi already confirmed by the Lilywhites in recent days.

This is a developing story, more to come as it breaks…

Celtic have opened talks to sign a new forward ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports journalist Patrick Berger.

After confirming the appointment of Martin O’Neill, who was set to leave the club this summer with his contract expiring, attention for Celtic will now turn to the summer transfer window.

The Glasgow giants will be looking to bring in reinforcements to help them go to the next level after they only just secured the Scottish Premiership title last season.

It was far from a vintage title victory for Celtic, and there’s no doubt there is room for improvement.

Now the managerial situation has been resolved, there are minimal distractions and excuses for Celtic not to tackle the transfer market.

According to Sky Sports journalist Berger, Celtic are one of the sides interested in signing Borussia Dortmund winger Cole Campbell ahead of the summer transfer window.

Campbell is open to leaving Dortmund this summer, and Celtic have already opened talks ahead of a possible move.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, but the German club opted against triggering the option to buy him permanently.

The door has now opened for the American forward to move this summer, with Celtic one of the sides pushing to secure his signature.

Campbell’s Ambition Can’t be Questioned

Martin O'Neill arrives at Tynecastle Park for Hearts vs Celtic

It’s been a difficult period for Campbell after his failed loan move to Hoffenheim. The American star needs to get his career back on track, but it’s certainly safe to say he doesn’t lack confidence.

The 20-year-old previously claimed that he believes it is possible for him to win the Ballon d’Or, Champions League, and World Cup in the future.

“My goal was to debut in the Bundesliga and eventually the Champions League,” he says. “Now that I’ve done that, I’m just trying to work hard and obviously earn more minutes throughout the rest of the season. That’s my short-term goal. As far as long-term goals for my career, I want to win a Ballon d’Or. That’s something that I want to do in my career. I want to win the Champions League and I want to win a World Cup as well. That’s something that would be absolutely amazing and I think that, in the future, I think it’s all possible.”

Those goals certainly seem far away at this stage, but there is no harm in having ambitions in your career.

There’s no doubt Campbell needs to move away and have a successful period in order to head back in the right direction, and Celtic could be the ideal destination for him.

Arsenal are now hoping to complete a £50m+ deal to sign a new midfielder heading towards the summer transfer window.

It’s unclear what the priority position will be for Arsenal as they head towards the summer.

After securing the Premier League title and reaching the Champions League final, Arsenal’s squad is clearly at a strong level heading into next season.

The Gunners now have a little more freedom in the market, knowing they don’t need to desperately bring in players to instantly improve the starting eleven.

This means they can target younger talent with room to grow rather than ready-made stars.

The Gunners will undoubtedly be one of the most attractive prospects in world football heading into the summer transfer window, so it could be an exciting period for the club.

According to a report from Football Insider, Arsenal have opened talks to sign Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are hoping to complete a deal for a fee in the region of £50m plus add-ons, although the Ligue 1 club are holding out for around £60m.

Bouaddi is keen on a move to the Premier League in the summer, and he caught the world’s attention after a phenomenal performance for Morocco in their opening game at the World Cup against Brazil.

The 18-year-old, described as a ridiculous talent, has certainly put himself in the shop window this summer. Arsenal are hoping to win what is set to be a competitive race for his signature.

Bouaddi The Ideal Midfield Signing for Arteta

There’s an argument to suggest that Bouaddi could be the ideal midfield signing for Arsenal heading into the summer transfer window.

The Gunners don’t desperately need a player to come in and make an immediate impact, but instead someone who can be a key figure in their midfield for years to come.

Bouaddi is a player who would be comfortable coming straight into the Arsenal side and featuring in the Premier League next season, but he’s also far from reaching his full potential.

Playing sporadically and getting game time in the various cup competitions that Arsenal will play in will be hugely beneficial not only for the player but for the club too.
