World darts number one Luke Littler is facing criticism for his “immature” behaviour following his loss to Gian van Veen on night nine of Premier League Darts in Manchester on Thursday.
Despite posting a marginally better 98.56 average and a success rate of over 46 per cent on doubles, Littler – the current table-topper – was beaten 6-5 in his hometown by the same player he had defeated to secure his second successive World Championship title back in January.
The Nuke had recently been on a 20-game winning streak, helping him claim six of the eight majors he competed in last year. Such defeats are rare for the 19-year-old, and so too is the way he reacted to losing – a display of frustration that has drawn widespread criticism from viewers.

Luke Littler Slammed by Darts Fans for Reaction to Premier League Loss
Following Van Veen’s deciding-leg victory at the AO Arena this week, Littler was seen throwing his hands up at the Dutchman before appearing to shout at the crowd with some aggro.
After missing the chance to win a set, he then made a ‘crybaby’ gesture toward the same section, before quickly shaking hands with his opponent and making a swift exit. Reacting to his behaviour, one X user remarked (see the incident below):
“Not even sure why Luke [Littler] was p****d off. No gamesmanship from Gian [van Veen] as far as I’m aware. Phenomenal player is Littler, but extremely immature that was.”
Another user claimed Littler has “Absolutely no class,” as a third continued: “Imagine picking a fight with Van Veen of all people.” Another wrote: “Littler is actually insufferable when he acts like that, which is way too often. No need for it,” while a fifth concluded: “Littler’s embarrassed himself once again.”
