Ex-presidential aspirant, Gbenga Olawepo Hashim quits PDP
Former presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gbenga Olawepo Hashim, has officially resigned from the party.
This was disclosed in a letter dated April 4, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Usuma Ward in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the letter, his resignation takes effect immediately.
His decision came due to the irreconcilable internal divisions and failed peace efforts.
He said the party had been engulfed in “persistent and unending crises” for over a year, resulting in its factionalisation into two dominant camps.
The businessman and human rights activist lamented that efforts for reconciliation proved to no avail.
According to him, “I cannot, in good conscience, be complicit in actions that undermine democratic values.”
He added that the situation could prevent the party from fielding credible candidates or reduce it to a passive supporter of the incumbent administration.
“Today, Nigeria faces severe challenges; widespread insecurity across multiple regions, the tragic and continuous loss of innocent lives, and an economy in distress, with rising poverty among millions.
“It would be inconsistent with my convictions to remain part of any arrangement that appears to legitimize or sustain these conditions.
“Nigeria Today is experiencing terrorist wars in four of our six regions,” he stated.
He added that “massacres of innocent people have become a daily occurrence. Over eighteen thousand people have been killed in terrorist violence in the three years of the current administration.
“The economy has crumbled, and crippling poverty has soared. Only wickedness, greed and lack of integrity would keep any leader in a system that appears to endorse such outcomes or participate in any charade to coronate a pre-determined candidate.”
He added that “It is indeed disheartening that a great party, founded by some of Nigeria’s most committed democrats and patriots has been brought to its knees by internal divisions and individuals whose primary distinction is that they benefited the most from the public offices entrusted to them by the PDP.”
“At this juncture, I believe it is necessary for me to step aside and pursue a new path.
“I am compelled by the urgent political realities of our time to collaborate with other patriotic leaders and citizens who are committed to preventing the emergence of a one party state and to building a new political order that guarantees security, justice, and economic prosperity for all Nigerians.
“The time has come to move forward.”

APC liars, deceiving Nigerians with inflated figures – ADC
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has lambasted the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, about the figures that emanated from the recently held primary election across the country.
Addressing newsmen, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the APC as liars deceiving Nigerians with inflated figures.
The ADC was reacting to the results of the APC primary election announced on Sunday.
DAILY POST recalls that the APC declared incumbent president Bola Tinubu the winner of the exercise with 10.99 million votes.
Reacting, the opposition said, “APC are liars, deceiving and misleading Nigerians with Inflated 11 million membership figures.
“We are not going to start setting figures because we want to deceive Nigerians. What the APC is doing would have been amusing and laughable if we didn’t know.
“What they are doing is to set the stage for the rigging of the 2027 general elections by claiming they have 11 million members.
“They should produce a verifiable membership register submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. We challenge them to do that if they claim to have such members.”

APC senatorial primary: I will go to court, Tinubu will intervene — Nwoko
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ned Nwoko, has vowed to challenge the result of the party’s senatorial primary in court.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Nwoko insisted that he won the exercise based on results and evidence allegedly gathered from the wards.
He rejected the declaration of former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as the winner of the senatorial primary, alleging that the results announced did not reflect the actual votes cast during the exercise.
According to him, midway into the primary, party officials ordered that no results should be announced at the ward level.
He alleged that the party officials equally instructed that they be collated and announced later at the national headquarters in Abuja.
“We have submitted them. Halfway through the primary, we got a message on our phones that no results should be announced at the ward level that they should be collected and then announced later at the national level in Abuja.
“And so, we thought we’d be law-abiding. Suddenly, we saw some news. We saw only that one video of one of the wards in Ika North East. I will go to court and I believe that President Bola Tinubu will wade into the matter,” he said.

Eld el Kabir: ‘Govern in line with teachings of Allah’ – Labour Party to govt
The Labour Party, LP, has noted that the values embodied by Eid al-Adha have become even more urgent and relevant at this time, when the nation continues to grapple with economic hardship, insecurity, hunger, and growing social and ethno-religious tensions.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluna Asogwa, the Labour Party felicitated the entire Ummah on the solemn and spiritually significant occasion.
Muslims in Nigeria and across the world are commemorating the sacred festival of Eid al-Kabir.
LP noted that Eid al-Adha symbolises profound faith, obedience, sacrifice, and total submission exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him) in his total devotion to the will of Almighty Allah.
“Beyond the festivities, this holy season calls for deep reflection, renewed spirituality, selflessness, and greater commitment to the service of humanity,” the statement said.
It added, “At a time our nation continues to grapple with economic hardship, insecurity, hunger, and growing social and ethno-religious tensions, the values embodied by Eid al-Adha have become even more urgent and relevant.
“We therefore urge Nigerians to embrace compassion, generosity, and mutual understanding, especially towards the less privileged and vulnerable in society.”
The Labour Party also called on those entrusted with leadership and public responsibility to govern with justice, fairness, equity, and empathy in line with the noble teachings of Islam, which place great emphasis on the welfare and protection of the people, ideals that the Labour Party vigorously pursues.
“This is a defining moment for leaders at all levels to rise above selfish interests and work sincerely towards alleviating the suffering of Nigerians.”
“As we celebrate this blessed festival, we pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) accepts our sacrifices and acts of worship, grants peace and prosperity to our nation, and continues to guide us on the path of righteousness.
“Eid Mubarak to all Nigerians. May this celebration bring abundant blessings, divine mercy, peace, and renewed hope to every home.”
