APC Legacy Group submits three nominees for Kano Deputy Governor vacancy
APC legacy stakeholders have submitted three names to Abba Kabir Yusuf as nominees for the vacant Deputy Governor position.
In a statement issued in Kano on Sunday, Magaji Umar Gwammaja said the list includes Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, and Murtala Sule Garo.
He noted that the move follows the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026.
Gwammaja described the nominees as experienced leaders, adding that Bichi stands out for his administrative background across state and federal roles.
He also highlighted Rurum’s legislative experience and Garo’s long service in local government and the state executive council.
“The list will be forwarded to security agencies for proper screening to ensure they meet the required standards,” Gwammaja said.
He added that after the checks, the governor is expected to consult with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This step will ensure national synergy and political alignment. After these high-level consultations, the governor will transmit the final selected name to the Kano State House of Assembly for formal screening and confirmation in accordance with constitutional provisions,” he said.

Ombugadu begins campaign ahead of Nasarawa North Senatorial by-election
Former House of Representatives member and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, David Emmanuel Ombugadu, has officially unveiled his campaign poster ahead of the forthcoming Nasarawa North Senatorial by-election.
The unveiling ceremony took place on Saturday in Akwanga and attracted prominent members of the PDP, including officials of the party’s State Working Committee (SWC), supporters, and other stakeholders from across the senatorial district.
Speaking at the event, Ombugadu described his senatorial ambition as a mission aimed at strengthening representation, promoting unity, and advancing the collective interests of the people of Nasarawa North.
He assured supporters that, if elected, he would build on his previous legislative achievements and provide effective representation at the National Assembly.
The PDP chieftain also reiterated his commitment to the broader goal of transforming Nasarawa State, stressing that his continued political engagement remains focused on delivering good governance and sustainable development for the people.
According to him, the senatorial by-election presents another opportunity to deepen democratic participation and give the people a stronger voice in national affairs.
Ombugadu called on party members and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the poll, urging them to remain united and focused on securing victory for the PDP.
“This is a collective project that goes beyond individual ambition. It is about providing quality representation, promoting unity, and advancing the welfare of our people,” he said.
The former lawmaker expressed confidence in the party’s chances at the election and urged supporters across the senatorial district to work tirelessly toward achieving a decisive victory at the polls.
The Nasarawa North Senatorial by-election is scheduled to hold on June 20, with political parties already intensifying campaigns and consultations across the district.

2027: ADC, Atiku won’t get 10% in Rivers – Wike vows
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, has vowed that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the the African Democratic Congress, ADC, would not get 10% votes in Rivers state.
Wike made this vow at a Luncheon in honour of Candidates of the Rainbow Coalition for the 2027 General elections in the state.
According to him, no other candidate of any other party would win the governorship election in the 2027 contest, except the candidate to the agreed by his Rainbow Coalition.
The former governor of Rivers State equally stated that the ADC and the National Democratic Congress, NDC, have not participated in an election before.
“ADC and NDC have not run election before. They do not understand election. They only understand defection. This is the time they will see election practical. They will have the experience and they will see what is in election starting from Rivers State.
“It is not enough to come on TV to say President we love you. But to show your commitment by how many votes you can deliver to win election. It is not to go and visit him in Lagos for visits.
“Atiku Abubakar in 2023 never got 10% in Rivers State. It will be very disheartening that he will get 11 percent in Rivers State in the next election.
“If he gets 10% which he did not get in 2023, it means he has gone higher. We will make sure ADC will not have 10% here. A man who is not ready for work, but ready when food is ready, is not available in the state. You must work hard.
“We have won election in this state when there was intimidation, come to talk of now that there is no intimidation,” Wike said.

2027: No zoning arrangement for single term of four years in Ebonyi North – Nwebonyi
Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and senator representing Ebonyi North, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has dismissed claims that he is violating an alleged zoning arrangement limiting senators from the district to a single four-year tenure, insisting that there is no political or constitutional basis for him to forgo a second term bid in 2027.
Nwebonyi was reacting to comments reportedly made by his opponent and senatorial candidate under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Chikadoli Ojimba, who urged him to withdraw from the race on the grounds of an alleged one-term agreement in Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki on Sunday, the lawmaker maintained that the purported arrangement had no binding effect, noting that former Governor of Ebonyi State and ex-senator representing Ebonyi North, Sam Egwu, served two terms in the Senate.
“I am not the first senator from Ebonyi North to seek a second term. Senator Sam Egwu, the first civilian governor of Ebonyi State, served two terms in the Senate representing Ebonyi North. By the grace of God, I will also serve a second term,” Nwebonyi said.
The senator declared that he had no formidable rival ahead of the 2027 senatorial election, attributing his confidence to what he described as his track record of effective representation and impactful constituency projects.
Taking a swipe at some opposition candidates seeking elective offices, Nwebonyi argued that leadership should be built on experience, competence and a proven record of public service.
“Politics is not an avenue for making money. Those coming into politics with such expectations should reconsider. Public service is about sacrifice and service to the people,” he stated.
The senator also expressed confidence in the electoral fortunes of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that the party remained firmly entrenched in Ebonyi State.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as increased federal attention to the South-East, particularly Ebonyi State, citing ongoing federal road projects as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the region.
Nwebonyi equally reaffirmed his support for Governor Francis Nwifuru, describing him as a unifying figure whose leadership had strengthened cohesion across Ebonyi State, especially within the Izzi clan.
Reacting to reports of alleged divisions among the Izzi people, the senator dismissed the claims as unfounded, insisting that the clan was more united than ever under Governor Nwifuru’s administration.
According to him, the era of political fragmentation driven by sectional interests had passed, urging political stakeholders to embrace unity and work collectively for the development of the state.
“We are united, focused and committed to the progress of Ebonyi State. The politics of division is behind us, and our people are determined to move forward together,” he said.
