2027: Ex-Benue governor Suswam joins Senate race on APC platform
Ex-Benue governor Suswam.
A former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has declared his intention to contest for the Benue North-East Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Suswam made the disclosure on Monday during an interview on Arise Television, confirming his return to the senatorial race after previously serving in the National Assembly.
The former governor, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in February, described his move as part of a broader “political realignment” rather than a decision driven by personal ambition.
He explained that political alignment in Benue State has historically followed dominant party structures, noting that the state was once firmly controlled by the PDP before shifting allegiance to the APC.
“Benue State, since I started politics in 1998, is a place where the people believe in one party,” Suswam said.
“Benue State for its first 16 years was completely a PDP state. And then subsequently after that, they moved to the APC.”
He added that his decision to join the ruling party reflects the prevailing political sentiment among the people of the state.
“As a Benue son, I won’t be an exception to what my people want and what my people believe. They now believe in the principles and philosophy of the APC,” he stated.
Speaking on his 2027 ambition, the two-term former governor said his options are limited by constitutional provisions, making the Senate his only viable political office.
“I’m a politician. And as a politician, if you are still strong enough to contest an election, you always want to contest elections,” he said.
“The only election that I can contest now is the Senate. Of course, I can’t go back to run for governor; even if I want to run for that, the Constitution forbids me from running for governor again. So of course, I’ll be running for Senate.”
Suswam’s declaration signals an early move in the build-up to the 2027 elections, as political realignments continue across party lines.

Kano lawmaker Muhammad Tomas dumps NDC, returns to APC
A member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Makoda Constituency, Hon. Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, has left the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) and returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tomas made his return known on Monday during a visit to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, at his residence in Abuja.
He was accompanied by the chairmen of Makoda and Dambatta local government areas, Alhaji Isa Currency and Alhaji Jamilu Abubakar Dambatta.
Receiving the lawmaker, Senator Barau described his return to the APC as a welcome development, saying it aligns with efforts to strengthen governance and political stability.
“This is a timely and commendable decision. It shows commitment to development and good governance,” Barau said.
The Deputy Senate President also assured Tomas of fair treatment within the APC, adding that the party remains open to returning members and committed to equal opportunities for all.
He further expressed confidence that Tomas’ return would boost the party’s strength in Kano North and across Kano State.
In a post shared on his Facebook page, Barau said he was optimistic that the development would further consolidate the APC’s presence in the region.
Tomas’ defection comes after he recently lost the NDC ticket to contest for a second term in the Kano State House of Assembly, a decision that was reportedly reached through consensus within the party.
The lawmaker had earlier left the APC for the NDC, where he was received by party leaders, including Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, before returning to the ruling party.

2027: Tinubu will win landslide, I won’t support Peter Obi – Babachir Lawal
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has predicted a landslide victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Lawal made the remark while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, shortly after announcing his resignation from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in a post on his Facebook page.
The former SGF said he had decided to step away from active politics, citing dissatisfaction with the way politics is practised in Nigeria.
According to him, he would rather focus on other pursuits, including agriculture and church-related activities.
“I’ve just come to the conclusion that in Nigerian politics, everybody is… I don’t understand how it’s practised. I don’t know how it should be practised. Maybe there are some Nigerians who know to run their things. I don’t want to be part of anything again,” he said.
Lawal, who was a member of the opposition coalition that recently adopted the ADC as its political platform, argued that Tinubu would be difficult to defeat in the next election.
“Tinubu will win with landslide. If the parameter for winning the election in Nigeria is rigging, nobody can face Bola Tinubu.
“If Atiku’s strength is in manipulating results, he will meet the master leader in the front next year. And so they will be all the worse for it,” Lawal stated.
The former SGF also added that he won’t be supporting me Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC. He said didn’t want to be part of anything again.
“I won’t support Peter Obi. I don’t want to be part of anything again,” Lawal said.

2027: Terrorism increasingly becoming political strategy – Lagos APC Scribe
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State, on Monday, claimed that terrorism has become a political strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections, lamenting the resurgence of insecurity, renewed terrorism activities, and coordinated attacks as the 2027 general elections draw near.
The recent past spokesman of the state APC, Seye Oladejo, in a statement he signed, tagged ‘Dateline 2027: When Terrorism Becomes a Political Strategy,’ said the pattern is becoming difficult to ignore.
His words read, “As Nigeria gradually moves towards the 2027 general elections, a troubling pattern is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. Across various parts of the country, there has been a noticeable resurgence of insecurity, renewed terrorist activity, coordinated attacks on communities, and a steady attempt to amplify fear and uncertainty within the public space.
“To dismiss these developments as mere coincidence would be to ignore both history and common sense.
“Nigeria has witnessed this script before. At critical political junctures, when electoral contests begin to take shape and political interests become heightened, forces that thrive on instability often emerge from the shadows. They exploit existing fault lines, sponsor narratives of despair, fuel public anxiety, and seek to create the impression of a nation under siege.
“No responsible observer can overlook the timing of the recent escalation in insecurity. While security agencies continue to record significant successes against criminal and terrorist elements, there appears to be a determined effort by certain interests to ensure that every isolated incident is magnified into evidence of national collapse. The objective is clear: create fear, erode public confidence, weaken institutions, and convert national security challenges into political capital.
“The Nigerian people must ask themselves a fundamental question: Who benefits from a climate of fear and instability?
“Certainly not the farmer whose crops are abandoned because of insecurity. Certainly not the trader whose business suffers. Certainly not the young graduate searching for opportunities. Certainly not the families who simply desire peace and stability.”
