‘What we discussed during my meeting with Peter Obi’ — Bala Mohammed
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has disclosed details of his closed-door meeting with Peter Obi, saying their discussions focused on key national issues, including economic recovery and citizens’ welfare.
Mohammed, who shared details of the meeting in a post on X on Thursday, said he received Obi at the Government House in Bauchi, describing the engagement as timely.
“Today, I received the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and a chieftain of the ADC, Mr. Peter Obi, at the Government House in Bauchi. Our discussions centered on critical national issues, including economic recovery and the welfare of our citizens,” he said.
The governor noted that the meeting also provided an opportunity to review the country’s political climate and the need for institutional strengthening.
“We also took time to review the evolving political landscape and emphasized the urgent need to strengthen our democratic institutions,” he added.
Mohammed commended Obi for the visit, stressing the importance of dialogue among political actors in addressing national challenges.
“I commended him for the visit, as engagements of this nature foster mutual understanding and help drive practical, people-focused solutions,” he said.
He further revealed that both leaders agreed on the need for political stakeholders to prioritise national interest over partisan considerations.
“We jointly urged all stakeholders to rise above partisanship and place the national interest at the forefront of all decisions,” Mohammed stated.
The meeting comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

NDC: We gave Peter Obi presidential ticket without collecting money – Dickson
The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Seriake Dickson, says the party gave Peter Obi the presidential candidate without collecting a dime from him.
Speaking at an NDC stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday, Dickson said the party also allowed Obi to pick his running mate without interference.
He wondered what Obi’s supporters, the Obidients, want from him and the party.
“We gave Obi the presidential ticket free of charge and allowed him to choose his vice presidential candidate without any interference from the party. What else do people want?
“I will have no issues giving the presidential nomination to them. And like I said last night, nobody demanded money from them. Not me or the national chairman.
“At this point we should be working together to ensure victory at the polls come 2027, and I believe we can do it,” he said.

NDC: You seem to be in competition with Peter Obi – Aisha Yesufu hits Dickson
Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, had lashed out at the national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Seriake Dickson, over his recent interview on national television.
Writing on her verified X handle on Thursday, Yesufu said Dickson seems to be in competition with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
She was responding to Dickson’s interview, where he defended the party’s leadership and addressed criticisms from some Obi supporters following the NDC primaries.
“You seem to be in a competition with the NDC presidential candidate. No one is challenging your leadership of the party.
“The focus should be on securing victory in the 2027 elections and addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
“There is a whole battle ahead of us. Rescuing Nigeria from the current state it is in should be the main focus, not people’s fragile ego!” she said.
