20 Football Managers With the Most Signings in History [Ranked]

Published

on

Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti are among the highest-spending managers in football history, but who has signed the most players?

In today’s game, transfers shape football almost as much as tactics – one successful summer window can completely change a club’s trajectory and transform its fortunes.

With Premier League clubs spending an unprecedented £3.087 billion on new signings in the summer of 2025, the transfer market has never been more influential, especially for managers who regularly overhaul squads rather than work with what they inherit.

As per WinSportsOnline, these are the top 20 football managers with the most signings in history, with Guardiola – the highest-spending manager in football – a notable omission.

11-10. Harry Redknapp and Steve Bruce – 117

Steve Bruce and Harry Redknapp

Sitting joint-10th in this list are two long-serving English managers in Harry Redknapp and Steve Bruce.

Redknapp in particular was famed for his spending whilst in managerial positions, with his most expensive acquisition being Robbie Keane’s arrival at Tottenham Hotspur in February 2009 at around £14million. Managing over a career span of 34 years, Redknapp made 117 purchases, where he enjoyed a strong managerial career in the Premier League.

He is joined by Bruce. The former Manchester United defender made his managerial bow in 1998, and only left his most recent managerial job in October after leaving League One outfit Blackpool.

His most expensive purchase was Joelinton, whilst in charge of Newcastle, coming in at just shy of £40million.

9. Eusebio Di Francesco – 123

Eusebio Di Francesco

Eusebio Di Francesco is still only 56, but that hasn’t stopped him from managing a plethora of clubs from 2008 until now, where he is currently Lecce boss. They face a battle to stay in Serie A, though that isn’t due to a lack of bringing players in, with 13 joining the club over the course of the season.

Di Francesco has signed six more players than the rest, and he made quite a dent in Roma’s budget when he was gaffer at the Stadio Olimpico from 2017 to 2019.

His most expensive purchase was Patrik Schick, who joined for £39million back in July 2018 – only slightly less than Bruce’s major outlay.

8. Rafael Benitez – 124

Former Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez

Back to another boss who used to manage Newcastle United, and Rafael Benitez is seventh on this list with 124 buys, one more than Di Francesco.

Billed as one of the best young managers in the world when he moved from Valencia to Liverpool – and backing that up with a Champions League trophy – he’s since managed an array of clubs such as Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli, and Real Madrid.

Although his career is petering out, not least after a poor stint at Everton, he’s still bought well. Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano joining Liverpool remain two of his better purchases, though his most expensive was the £34.5million move that saw Gonzalo Higuain join Napoli in 2013.

7. Massimiliano Allegri – 127

Juventus manager Max Allegri

Sticking to another Serie A managerial icon, and Massimiliano Allegri smashes the record set by any manager in the top ten.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s move from Real Madrid to Juventus came under Allegri’s spell, costing the Turin club £99million.

Elsewhere, he spent £75million taking Higuain to Juventus from Napoli, whilst another seven signings all cost 40 million euros or more. With 127 purchases, his list looks strong.

6. Carlo Ancelotti – 127

carlo ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti comes in next with 127. That number won’t increase due to his role as Brazilian national team coach, and although he’ll be looking to add a World Cup to his star-studded list of achievements, the Italian has brought in some top players during his managerial career.

Jude Bellingham’s £105million move from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid remains his most expensive, but Ancelotti boasts such an impressive CV. Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez and Arda Guler came under his watch at Real, Alessandro Nesta, Kaka and Thiago Silva joined him at AC Milan, whilst Ramires, Daniel Sturridge and David Luiz joined him at Chelsea.

5. Stefano Pioli – 128

Stefano Pioli
Stefano Pioli

Onto another former AC Milan manager, and Stefano Pioli remains a serial spender.

Ousting Ancelotti by just one signing, incredibly his most expensive signing was the £70million to bring Jhon Duran from Aston Villa to Al-Nassr just over a year ago.

However, the majority of his success came at AC Milan. Tijjani Reijnders, Christian Pulisic, Mike Maignan and Sandro Tonali all joined him at the San Siro – which led to Pioli winning the 2021-22 Serie A title.

4. Jose Mourinho – 136

jose mourinho

The self-branded ‘Special One’ was always going to be on this list, and boasting a similar career path to Ancelotti, his move to Chelsea coincided with Roman Abramovich being wiling to get the chequebook out at Stamford Bridge.

Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira, Arjen Robben, Petr Cech – the list goes on as Chelsea stormed English football.

But delving deeper into his career, it was in the 2010s that Jose Mourinho properly spent money, especially at Manchester United. Their purchase of Paul Pogba broke the transfer record, whilst Romelu Lukaku and Fred broke the £50m barrier.

Add the signings of Luka Modric, Angel di Maria and Mesut Ozil to his Real Madrid days – and it’s no wonder everyone wanted to play for the Portuguese legend.

3. Claudio Ranieri – 139

MixCollage-20-May-2025-08-07-AM-1437

Premier League winner with Leicester City, Italian tactician Claudio Ranieri perhaps has the broadest career path on this list, having signed 139 players across 15 different clubs.

Ranieri managed sides in England, Spain, Italy and France during his 39-year coaching career, and most recently was at Roma, where he served as a senior advisor, working alongside manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

Three of Ranieri’s most expensive signings came during his time at Monaco – James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao and Joao Moutinho – while the remaining two were Hernan Crespo at Chelsea and Islam Slimani at Leicester.

2. Jorge Jesus – 145

Jorge Jesus

Former Benfica and Sporting CP manager Jorge Jesus is now in charge of Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, where he coaches the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane and Joao Felix.

The 71-year-old spent most of his coaching career in Portugal, where he led Benfica to three Primeira Liga titles and won the League Cup six times – more than any other manager in history.

Unsurprisingly, all six of Jesus’ most expensive signings were made during his time at Al-Hilal, with the top five being Neymar, Malcom, Ruben Neves, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

1. Gian Piero Gasperini – 172

AS Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini

Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has made more signings than any other manager – a remarkable 172 – during his three decades on the touchline.

The 68-year-old tactician has spent his entire managerial career in Italy, including nine seasons at Atalanta, where he guided the club to the Europa League title in 2023-24.

Gasperini has also managed Crotone, Genoa, Inter, Palermo and Juventus’ youth side, before being appointed Roma manager in June 2025 on a three-year deal.

His most expensive signing remains El Bilal Toure, who joined Atalanta for €30m in 2023, with Gianluca Scamacca, Mateo Retegui, Raoul Bellanova (all Atalanta) and Wesley (Roma) completing the top five.

Man Utd Get Green Light to Sign Crysencio Summerville From His Agent

Published

on

By

Manchester United have been given the green light to complete a deal for West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville, as further details emerge from journalist Shaun Irvine.

Man United‘s main focus in this summer transfer window has been on ensuring they have a strong midfield ahead of their return to the Champions League next season, with that area of the pitch the one that needed the most work.

With Casemiro leaving and Manuel Ugarte expected to go too following an underwhelming two-year spell at Old Trafford, Kobbie Mainoo would be left as one of the only specialist senior players in central midfield.

Captain Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount can play there if needed, but they are much better suited to playing further forward in the No.10 position.

United have already bolstered the position with one completed deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who will seal his move to Old Trafford once he returns from the 2026 World Cup with Brazil.

The Red Devils are now pursuing West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes as they look to add another player to their engine room, while some reports have suggested they could even bring in a third midfielder too.

United are looking at other positions on the pitch too, including in attack.

GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed all summer that United are looking to add a left-sided attacker to their squad this summer, and a move is likely to ramp up should Marcus Rashford complete a switch away from Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been linked with players such as Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao in recent weeks, with Michael Carrick and director of football Jason Wilcox known to be big fans of the former in particular.

However, a new name has emerged recently in Mateus Fernandes’ West Ham teammate Summerville.

Like Fernandes, the Netherlands international is said to have no intention of playing in the Championship after the Irons were relegated, with the player reportedly valued at £50m by the east London outfit.

According to Irvine, posting on X, the World Cup star’s agent has given the green light to United to complete a move, with personal terms being no issue.

Man United Could Seal £120m Double Deal

West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes celebrates scoring Premier League goal against Sunderland via Reuters

The Telegraph have reported that United are ready to launch a £120m double transfer raid on West Ham to land two of their top summer targets.

With the Irons valuing their Portuguese star at between £80-85m and Summerville at £50m, it seems unlikely that a bid of £120m would be accepted by the Hammers, who are determined to remain strong on their valuation, unless it included a significant amount upfront.

Fernandes’ quality has been there for all to see at West Ham and Southampton in the last two seasons, and the thought of him linking up with compatriot Bruno at Old Trafford is mouthwatering.

Meanwhile, Summerville has often played from the left for the Irons, but he showcased his versatility by scoring a fine goal from the right for the Netherlands at the World Cup.

FIFA to Pay Compensation After Ismael Kone’s Horrific Injury For Canada

Canada’s 6-0 demolition of Qatar at the World Cup was overshadowed by a horror injury for Ismael Kone, who suffered a serious leg break early in the second half in Vancouver.

Jesse Marsch’s side ran riot on the pitch, but all the post-match talk centred on the midfielder, who was stretchered off after a poor challenge from Assim Madibo. The Qatar defender was sent off following a VAR review and later apologised to Kone in the dressing room.

Marsch later admitted that those close enough “could hear the bone snap,” adding that “everybody’s shaken for him.”

Canada confirmed Kone has already undergone successful surgery to repair a lower limb fracture and is expected to make a full recovery. Marsch revealed the procedure took around an hour and a half and was carried out by three top surgeons, praising the medical team for giving him confidence the situation was being handled properly.

No firm return date has been set, but the former Watford man is expected to be sidelined for up to a year.

It’s worth noting that quick recoveries from leg breaks aren’t unheard of in football. Francesco Totti famously fractured his fibula in February of 2006, only months before that summer’s World Cup, yet defied expectations to recover in time to play a role in Italy’s triumphant run to glory in Germany.

According to The Mirror, FIFA will pay compensation to Kone’s club, Sassuolo, under the Club Protection Programme. The scheme covers accidental injuries sustained while players are on international duty, provided the absence runs beyond 28 days, though illnesses aren’t included.

Kone’s fixed salary is reported to be £22,600 per week, working out at roughly £3,200 per day. With the first 28 days excluded and Kone facing around 150 days out, Sassuolo are likely to receive close to £480,000 in compensation.

The Serie A club issued their own statement, confirming the operation on his left leg was a complete success and that his rehabilitation would begin in the coming days, wishing him a speedy recovery.

Man Utd Target ‘Best Striker in the World’ Victor Osimhen

Published

Manchester United are now eyeing a move to sign a forward described as the ‘best striker in the world’, according to a report from Caught Offside.

The main focus for United over the last few weeks in the transfer window has been on targeting new midfielders.

A deal has reportedly been agreed to bring Atalanta midfielder Ederson to Old Trafford, with United set to pay in the region of £38m.

West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes is also a priority target, with some at the club believing that they will complete a deal to secure his signature.

Once United have solved their midfield situation, they could move on to strengthening in other areas of the pitch, including in attack.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Manchester United are interested in signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window.

Osimhen is described as a dream target for the Red Devils, but there are doubts over whether they will be able to complete a deal.

The 27-year-old, described as the best striker in the world, would cost a huge transfer fee, making him a difficult option for the Manchester club.

United do have other names on their shortlist as they look to bring in a new centre forward, but Osimhen does appear to be a priority if they can get a deal over the line.

The Nigerian forward is currently plying his trade with Galatasaray, where he scored 15 goals in the league and seven in the Champions League last season.

Man Utd Need Experienced Striker

Bringing in a striker of Osimhen’s calibre and experience would be a smart move for Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

At 27, Osimhen is in his prime years, and he could be the ideal player for Benjamin Sesko to learn from and develop alongside.

The Slovenian forward didn’t cement himself as a guaranteed starter for United last season, and considering he’s still young, he could do with an experienced player alongside him.

If United can somehow get a deal over the line for Osimhen for a reasonable fee, it would be a phenomenal coup for the Red Devils.
