Seven killed in fresh attack on Benue border community
At least seven people have reportedly lost their lives following an attack on Channel One, a border settlement in Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State.
The assault was said to have occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 27, 2026, according to sources within the community.
A local leader, Elder Joseph Anawa, confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi.
Anawa in a message said “I have gathered that today, 27/4/2026, at about 13:00 hours reveals that suspected Fulani marauders have attacked “Channel One”, a border settlement in Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward, Logo LGA of Benue State, located along Arufu-Wukari road, Taraba State.
“Six people were reportedly killed, including Mr. Akor Gwakyaa, Mr. Msooter Gwakyaa, Aondoungwa Michael, Vershima Michael, Terna Michael, Msughter Terzungwe and another whose name was not given.”
He further disclosed that seven other residents sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals in Anyiin town.
Providing details of the incident, Anawa said a witness reported that “the attackers came in large numbers, armed with firearms, and were on motorcycles. It is alleged that the marauders are those camped at Shaor, one of the deserted villages that several intelligence reports have identified as a Fulani marauders’ camp in Logo LGA.
“It is also reported that residents of the area under attack and neighbouring communities are relocating to other villages for fear of further attacks.”
The community leader called on authorities to take urgent steps to prevent a recurrence, stressing the need for stronger security measures in the area.
Anawa who urged the government and relevant authorities to immediately find solutions to prevent further attack on innocent people of Logo LGA said “There is need to intensify border coordinated clearance operations to dislodge the suspected marauders camped at Shaor and other deserted villages identified in previous intelligence reports.
“There is also a need for joint inter-state security task forces with Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States to monitor cross-border movements of suspected Fulani mercenaries and, possibly, block all routes used by attackers to attack border communities in Logo LGA.”
He warned that the persistent nature of such attacks, often linked to camps in abandoned settlements and cross-border movements, requires swift and sustained intervention to restore safety and confidence among residents in affected council wards.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Logo LGA, Clement Kav, also confirmed the incident, stating that seven persons were killed while four others were injured.
Kave said, “They killed seven persons and injured four others. And like you are aware, what they do is that they come, attack and run back to where they came from.
He said “They carried out the attack late on Saturday/Sunday night. I have briefed the Commissioner of Police and the Adviser, Homeland Security on the development.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, said she had yet to receive details of the incident.

Kwara man arrested for sexually assaulting daughter
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kwara Command, has arrested one AbdulRauf Ambali, 40 years old, over allegations of incest and unlawful sexual intercourse with his 14-year-old daughter.
The NSCDC Commandant in Kwara, Mr Abbas Nda-Muhammed, disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday in Ilorin.
“The suspect was apprehended following credible information received from concerned members of the public in Alapa, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara.
“The matter was initially reported at the Alapa Divisional Office on June 16, and was subsequently transferred to the Command’s Gender Unit for comprehensive investigation,” he said.
Nda-Mohammed said that the case was first brought to the attention of the Corps by the suspect himself, who reported that his 14 year-old daughter had been missing from home for three weeks.
He said that the operatives of NSCDC Gender Unit immediately commenced investigation and successfully traced the minor.
“During the course of interrogation, the girl disclosed that she had deliberately fled from her father’s residence after allegedly enduring months of sexual abuse and intimidation.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the victim had lived with her grandmother since childhood before being taken into her father’s custody in December 2025 under the pretext of providing parental care and support.
“The victim alleged that shortly after moving into his residence, her father began subjecting her to repeated sexual abuse,” he said.
The commandant said that the victim was frequently threatened, beaten and intimidated whenever she resisted the suspect’s advances.
He said that the abuse persisted until she could no longer endure the situation, prompting her to leave home without informing anyone of her whereabouts.
Nda-Muhammed further revealed that the victim allegedly became pregnant in May, as a result of the repeated sexual abuse and the father took her to a private facility where the pregnancy was terminated.
“The victim also alleged that she was repeatedly warned not to disclose the incidents to anyone and was later advised to undergo family planning measures to prevent future pregnancies.
“In the course of investigation, the suspect reportedly admitted to having unlawful sexual relations with the minor,” he said.
The commandant condemned the act, describing it as a heinous betrayal of parental responsibility and a grave violation of the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of a child.
He reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Corps to the protection of all members of the society and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any criminal activities to security agencies.
