Police foil truck hijacking, recover fabricated rifle in Ogun
Detectives of the Ijebu Imushin Division, Ogun State Police Command, on Wednesday, foiled a truck hijacking incident, recovered a stolen DAF truck and a wooden-fabricated rifle.
DAILY POST learnt the driver who was conveying motor spare parts was intercepted by suspected hoodlums at the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu North, where the truck was forcefully taken from him.
In a statement made available to newsmen by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Thursday, upon the information the officers collaborated with highway patrol operatives, swiftly mobilized to the scene, forcing the suspects to abandon the truck and flee under pressure.
Babaseyi stated that a thorough search of the recovered truck led to the discovery of a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape, used by the suspects in the operation.
“The prompt intervention of the police effectively thwarted the criminal operation and prevented the loss of property.
“The driver, who sustained minor injury to his right ankle during the incident, was promptly administered first aid treatment and operatives are actively tracking the fleeing suspects with a view to their swift arrest and prosecution,” he said.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, reassuring them of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users and residents.

OPEP troops arrest two suspects linked to NIPSS attack
Troops of the Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, have arrested two suspects allegedly linked to the recent attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a statement by the spokesperson for the security outfit, Captain Polycarp Oteh, the suspects were apprehended at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4th, at the Trade Center axis of Kuru during an intelligence-led operation by the troops of Sector 6 of OPEP.
Oteh stated that one of the suspects, identified only as Aboi, was first arrested, and that, following intense interrogation, he led the operatives to the second suspect.
He added that the suspects are currently in custody and are being interrogated to aid security agencies in identifying and arresting other fleeing members of the criminal network.
“The suspects are being exploited for further intelligence that could lead to the arrest of other members of the group involved in the attack,” the statement said.
The arrests of the suspects followed a series of attacks on the NIPSS facility, leading to the killing of about four people, including security operatives, in the process.
The last attack was on July 2, but the attackers were successfully repelled by soldiers who killed one of the invaders, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Troops also recovered a service rifle with the registration number CO-3175, with investigations later revealing that the weapon had been stolen from a soldier who was killed during an earlier attack on the Federal College of Land Resources Technology, Vom, on April 11, 2026.

Women, children flee as troops repel attack on Plateau communities
Women and children fled for safety after Nigerian troops repelled an attack on communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident was contained in a post shared on X on Monday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.
According to the post, troops of Sector 8, Sub-Sector 81, deployed in Gyambwas, responded to reports of sporadic gunfire around the Gimti Galadima, Kobodon and Kaduno areas at about 3:25 p.m. on Sunday.
Security sources quoted by Makama said the troops arrived to find armed men attempting to set fire to several Fulani settlements.
“The troops immediately engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat toward Kugot village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
“The attack caused panic in the affected communities, with many Fulani women and children crossing a river to Langai in search of safety,” added.
According to the sources, the troops used superior firepower to stop the attack and prevent further destruction of the communities.
No soldier was killed or injured during the operation.
The sources added that troops have continued to carry out aggressive patrols in the area to prevent another attack and reassure residents of their safety.

Police arrest eight over alleged phone theft, loan fraud in Gombe
The Gombe State Police Command has arrested eight young men for allegedly stealing mobile phones and using them to obtain loans through the victims’ devices.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
The statement said the case began after residents of Wuro Birji community in Akko Local Government Area reported that their mobile phones had been stolen.
Police alleged that the suspects used the stolen phones to access the victims’ bank accounts, from which they withdrew N296,790. They also allegedly obtained instant loans amounting to N205,205 using the victims’ information.
The statement further revealed that investigations led to the arrest of 19-year-old Mustapha Kabiru, a Computer Science student at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Kaltungo.
According to the police, information obtained during the investigation led to the arrest of seven additional suspects, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals believed to be connected to the crime.
