2027: Fubara reaffirms loyalty to APC, dismisses defection rumours

By Daniel Abia, P/Harcourt
Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday broke his silence over widespread speculations that he had defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in the ongoing realignment of political forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Fubara made the clarification during an inspection tour of the newly constructed General Hospital and the fully remodelled Neuropsychiatric Hospital in the state.
Fubara said that contrary to reports in a section of the media in the last few days, suggesting that he had joined another political platform, he remained a member of the ruling party and will continue to work for the overall interest of the APC.
“I know that there has been a lot of drama in the media; one story or another. I am a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation that they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly.
“I’ve not gone anywhere. I’m still a member of the APC, and I remain a member. Whatever happens, what is important is supporting the overall interest of the party”, he said.
Last week when his brother, Mr Blessing Fubara, defected to the NDC, many speculated that it would not be long before the governor would defect from the APC and join his sibling in the new party with all his supporters, especially the state House of Assembly aspirants who were alleged to have been denied screening by the APC committee.
Governor Fubara was conducted round the facilities by the Director of Medical Services in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr Vincent Wachukwu, who led him through the hospital wards, a conference hall, the ICT centre, students’ hostel, staff quarters, and other critical sections.
He expressed delight at the completion of the two projects which, according to him, were conceived to address critical needs in the health sector in the state. He recalled that while the rehabilitation of the psychiatric hospital became necessary at some point, the administration also discovered that the area had no general hospital to take care of the basic health needs of the people.
“This very project, if you could remember, when we came in, we had an issue that required our sudden visit, and it had to do with mental health. So when we came here for the inspection of the rehabilitation centre that the board was trying to put together, we found out that we had more issues than even the mental health issue.
“We didn’t have a general hospital to serve the people within this area. The closest medical centre that they had here was the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), which is very far from here. We felt that with the space we have in this compound, it will be proper for us to also have a general hospital situated in this particular facility to take care of the neighbouring communities up to Rumuola, Rumuolumeni and all the surrounding areas.
“Today, to the glory of God, we can see that the project is already completed. It is not 95 per cent complete; it is a hundred per cent completed.
“We’re happy because it is a promise made and a promise fulfilled. Like I’ll always say, what is important is doing what will touch the lives of our people. Our people should be first, and that is how important this project is for us in this administration,” he said.

2027: Enugu’s endorsement of Tinubu demonstration of political maturity – Nwoye
Deputy National Chairman, (South) of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Barr Ben Nwoye, on Saturday, expressed delight over the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu and Peter Mbah for second terms in office by political leaders and stakeholders from Enugu East Senatorial District.
Nwoye described the move as a demonstration of political maturity and commitment to continuity.
He spoke at the Okpara Square, Enugu, during a gathering where stakeholders from Enugu East Senatorial District publicly declared their support for the re-election of President Tinubu and Governor Mbah.
Addressing the crowd, the APC chieftain praised the leaders of the district for what he described as a bold and visionary decision aimed at sustaining ongoing development efforts at both the federal and state levels.
“I have seen people like the former governor of old Anambra State; I have also seen the former Senate president, Chief Ken Nnamani and I have equally seen a lot of the founders and leaders of Enugu State here, all for the endorsement of our dear President, Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah. I’m quite impressed because your presence shows political maturity”, Nwoye said.
He noted that continuity in leadership would provide the opportunity to consolidate existing achievements and complete projects already initiated by the two administrations.
Nwoye particularly lauded Governor Mbah for his developmental strides across Enugu State, saying the governor had demonstrated commitment to transforming the state through infrastructure, economic and social development programmes.
According to him, the governor’s performance had earned him widespread support across political and regional divides.
The APC deputy national chairman also used the occasion to highlight the importance of the governorship zoning arrangement in Enugu State, describing it as a key factor behind the peace and political stability the state has enjoyed since 1999.
“Rotation among the three senatorial districts has given us peace since 1999.
“It is good that this event held today in addition to those of Enugu West and North senatorial zones so that our people will know where we are going,” Nwoye said.
He explained that the zoning formula had ensured fairness and equitable distribution of political power among the state’s three senatorial districts, thereby fostering unity and inclusion.
Nwoye urged political stakeholders to continue supporting the rotational arrangement, which he said had helped to maintain a peaceful political atmosphere in the state.
“The stakeholders should sustain the peaceful political atmosphere in Enugu State brought to us through the zoning of the governorship position,” he added.
The endorsement event attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community representatives and supporters from across Enugu East Senatorial District, many of whom expressed confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Mbah.

Former ADC house of reps aspirant, Bashar Geda defects to APC in Kebbi
A former aspirant for the House of Representatives seat representing Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza Federal Constituency under the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Bashar Geda, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kebbi State.
Geda formally announced his defection on Saturday during a gathering attended by supporters, party members and political stakeholders in Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking at the event, the former ADC aspirant said his decision to join the APC was influenced by what he described as the leadership style and policies of the Kebbi State Government under Governor Nasir Idris.
He pledged to support the APC and work with party members ahead of future political activities in the state.
“We have less than eight months to the general elections. I will remain in Birnin Kebbi to mobilise support and ensure victory for Governor Idris,” he said.
Geda also called for greater political cooperation among stakeholders, stressing the need for unity and inclusiveness in the state’s political process.
Governor Nasir Idris, who received the defectors, welcomed Geda and his supporters into the APC, assuring them of equal opportunities within the party.
The governor said the APC remained open to individuals willing to contribute to the development of the state and participate in its political activities.
Some APC officials who spoke at the gathering described Geda’s defection as a boost to the party’s membership in the state.
The event was attended by party leaders, government officials, youth groups and supporters from different parts of Kebbi State.
