Ronda Rousey made quick work of Gina Carano in their money-spinning headline fight atop a Most Valuable Promotions MMA card on Saturday, the 17th of May, in Los Angeles, California.
The walkouts, pageantry and ceremonial, lasted longer than the fight itself as the trailblazing women made their way to a cage for the first time in years. For Rousey, it was her first since back-to-back defeats in the UFC, and for Carano, it was an excuse to lose 100 pounds and try to do what she does best.
Rousey took Carano to the canvas immediately, defended a guillotine, threw strikes and then quickly changed position to her favored one — the one she built her career off.
From there, it was only a matter of time. Rousey had her armbar and Carano frantically tapped to submit to the submission. It looked like it only lasted 15 seconds.
Carlos Tevez enjoyed an outstanding football career and had the opportunity to share the pitch with some of the game’s biggest stars. Across both club and international football, he played alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Aguero. During that time, he also collected almost every major trophy available.
When asked to identify the greatest player he had ever played with, the Argentine had plenty of elite names to choose from. Many would expect any Argentinian in recent decades to select Lionel Messi, who has since gone on to lift the World Cup and drag his country to a third final.
Others would look to Cristiano Ronaldo, who formed a frightening front three at Manchester United, which included Tevez. Instead, he chose the third Man Utd star in that attack — the club’s all-time top goalscorer, Wayne Rooney.
Tevez Picked Rooney as His Greatest Teammate
Although Tevez lined up alongside both Messi and Ronaldo, it was Rooney who left the biggest impression on him. The pair played together at United from 2007 to 2009, winning multiple Premier League titles, the Champions League and several other honours. While their partnership lasted only two seasons, Rooney’s influence clearly remained with Tevez. Speaking in 2009 after leaving United for rivals Manchester City, Tevez explained why Rooney stood above the rest. Via quotes shared by the Mirror, he said:
“I’ve had the honour of playing with some great players. At United, I had Cristiano in my team and obviously, I have Messi in the national team. At Boca Juniors I had striker Martin Palermo for a teammate – he was very impressive. He was the one who put two goals past Real Madrid in Japan. But the one I like the most is Rooney. He has everything. He’s very complete.
“Plus we share the same humble origins. Although the humbleness he experienced growing up in Liverpool was obviously a bit more bearable than Fuerte Apache in Argentina, where I grew up.”
Rooney may not have been the obvious choice given the calibre of teammates Tevez enjoyed throughout his career, but his achievements speak for themselves. After emerging as a teenage sensation at Everton, Rooney fulfilled his enormous potential by becoming Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer and one of the Premier League’s leading scorers.
He also held England’s all-time scoring record before Harry Kane overtook him. Beyond his goalscoring exploits, Rooney was central to one of United’s most successful eras, lifting five Premier League titles along with numerous other major trophies.

The Red Devils have secured three new additions for the senior squad so far this summer. Karl Darlow to improve the goalkeeping department, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to reinforce the midfield.
Their recruitment isn’t expected to end there, especially after they qualified for the Champions League last season. Michael Carrick needs a deeper and more competitive squad in order to deal with the hectic fixture schedule that comes with playing in Europe.
The Red Devils are continuing to search for new additions in the summer window, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that they are still in the market for a third midfielder, despite the additions of Santos and Tielemans.
It now appears that they could look to bring in reinforcements in their attack as well.
The Senegalese international, whose performances have been described as outstanding for the Eagles, considers a move to Old Trafford his dream transfer.
It’s unclear how open Palace will be to allowing Sarr to head through the exit door in the summer.
It feels unlikely that they would be willing to allow Sarr to depart on the cheap, considering how important he was for them last season, scoring nine goals in the Europa Conference League.

Sarr could be tempted by Man Utd move
It certainly helps Man United’s cause that Sarr considers a move to the Manchester outfit as his dream transfer going forward.
At the age of 28, Sarr doesn’t have too much longer to find a big move, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he pushed to join the Red Devils this summer.
United are also competing in the Champions League next season, which will give the Crystal Palace man another temptation to join the club.
If United make an official move to try to secure his signature, it’ll be interesting to see Palace’s stance, as there’s no doubt Sarr would be keen.
It’s been another frustrating summer for Eddie Howe and the Magpies after missing out on top targets for their rivals. They were close to sealing a deal for Victor Munoz before Liverpool swooped in and signed the Spanish winger from Osasuna.
Newcastle set their sights on Swiss midfielder Johan Manzambi, but he chose Aston Villa, where he’ll replace Chelsea-bound Morgan Rogers. Setback after setback for the Tyneside outfit has given them an almighty task to try to rebuild Howe’s squad.
Newcastle Enter Race For Neco Williams
via Reuters
Despite the struggles that have ensued for Newcastle so far this summer, they are reportedly ready to move for Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams. The Welshman is a wanted man, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur also interested in signing the former Liverpool star.
According to Football Insider, the Magpies are prepared to join the race for Williams and hand Howe a versatile full-back. He has emerged as a target thanks to his ability to play on both sides of the defence.
Williams, dubbed “exceptional” enjoyed a superb past season with Forest, featuring 37 times in the league, posting two goals and three assists. His impressive displays haven’t gone unnoticed and there’s a chance he moves on this summer.
That said, Forest are reportedly trying to hold on to the 25-year-old and are ‘pushing ahead with talks to renew his contract.’ He joined the Tricky Trees from Liverpool in the summer of 2022 for around £16 million.

Neco Williams Could Be a Real Asset
While there’s no mention of a fee involved in a potential deal for Williams, he’d be an excellent signing for Newcastle. He’s as versatile as they come and has years of experience playing at the highest level.
The Welsh star is also at the right age to make an immediate impact in Howe’s team rather than a young prospect who needs time and patience. But the threat of Spurs and United is worth noting given they are in the midst of rebuilding their squads.
Depending on the price, Williams could prove to be a superb acquisition for the Magpies. Having lost Kieran Trippier following the expiration of his contract, there’s much to like about the possibility of the Forest man arriving at St James’ Park.
