2027: NDC provides fresh update for primary elections nationwide

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has provided updates concerning its upcoming Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly primaries.
A statement signed by Senator Moses Cleopas, National Chairman and Barr. Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, National Secretary, said these primaries are confirmed to take place across the nation on May 29, 2026, adhering to the previously established timetable of May 28 and 29.
The party said that due to the Eid-el-Kabir festivities and the associated public holidays, significant transportation and logistical issues have emerged, including a lack of available flights.
As a result, it said that numerous aspirants who were present in Abuja for the screening process, along with members of the screening committee, find themselves stranded in the city.
In light of this, the party said it has resolved that May 28 will be designated for arrivals, documentation with INEC and security agencies, consultative meetings, and other preparatory activities, while the primaries will now take place on May 29.
It said that on May 28, the teams will also conduct meetings with stakeholders, party elders, and aspirants in their respective states.
NDC said that no state agencies, including the Police, INEC, DSS, etc., are permitted to participate in the events and meetings scheduled for May 28, adding that any actions taken outside of these established guidelines will be considered unauthorized and illegal.
The party’s procedures for the primaries on May 29 will include: Presidential affirmation,
National Assembly primaries/affirmation, State Assembly primaries/affirmation, and Governorship primaries/affirmation
“The respective teams will gather and process all results, which will then be sent to the National Headquarters, where the National Working Committee will officially announce the outcomes,” the statement said.
It added that “No state executive or team is authorized to declare any results.
“We appeal for understanding and encourage all participants to behave responsibly, as the party maintains a strict policy against violence, disorderly conduct, and hooliganism.”
