Liverpool Eyeing Move to Sign RB Leipzig Star Antonio Nusa
Despite spending around £450m last summer, Liverpool will need more big signings in the upcoming transfer window after a hugely disappointing campaign under Arne Slot.
The Reds need a draw against Brentford on Sunday in their final Premier League game to guarantee a top-five spot and secure Champions League football for next season.
Bournemouth had threatened to catch the Anfield outfit in the race for the top five, but the Cherries’ draw with Manchester City on Tuesday night all but ended their hopes of securing a surprise spot in the Champions League.
Mohamed Salah is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season and is poised to make his final appearance for the club against the Bees this weekend.
Jarrod Bowen has already been mooted as a potential option for the Reds as they seek to replace Salah. Hugo Ekitike is also sidelined by a long-term injury, with Liverpool widely expected to add a handful of attacking reinforcements.
Antonio Nusa emerges as a Liverpool target
According to Football Insider, Liverpool could pursue a move for RB Leipzig winger Antonio Nusa if it becomes too difficult to sign his teammate Yan Diomande.
Nusa is a left-winger by trade and could be viewed as an upgrade on Cody Gakpo, who has struggled to deliver consistent performances this campaign.
The Dutchman’s form has seen calls from Liverpool supporters for 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha to play more consistently. In the 1-1 draw with Chelsea earlier this month, loud boos rang around Anfield as Ngumoha was withdrawn during the second half while Gakpo stayed on the pitch.
Leipzig want to keep Diomande for at least one more campaign and they would be unwilling to sell both of their wingers in the same window.
Martin Odegaard has high hopes for Antonio Nusa
Nusa has already been capped 22 times by Norway, scoring seven goals for his country.
When he first emerged on the international scene, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard spoke highly of the player’s talent.
Odegaard told Norwegian channel TV2 in September 2023: “He is an incredibly exciting player. You see it, everytime he gets the ball, it’s exciting. He is still young and will get even better.”
Nusa has five goals and four assists in all competitions this campaign compared to nine goals and six assists for Gakpo. Although Gakpo has played close to 3,000 minutes, compared to just over 2,300 for Nusa.
Statistics from Data MB also highlight that Nusa has had a better output in terms of progressive carries, key passes, crosses and dribbles.
At the age of 21, he could help provide a solution to Liverpool’s attacking woes and better service Alexander Isak, who has struggled to settle due to lack of form and fitness in his first season at Anfield.

Liverpool’s Leading Candidate To Replace Mo Salah Named
Liverpool face another busy summer of transfer business as they look to put a torrid season behind them.
The Reds finished fifth in the table and have qualified for the Champions League after the Premier League was handed an extra qualification spot. However, they finished 25 points behind champions Arsenal as they put up a meek defence of their title.
The club spent around £450million to improve their squad last summer but they have taken a step backwards and need to add players in several key areas less than 12 months on.
One position that needs to be addressed is the right wing, with Mohamed Salah saying goodbye to the club after a success-laden nine-year spell. The Egyptian played his final game on Sunday as the Reds drew 1-1 with Brentford at Anfield.
Yan Diomande leading candidate to replace Mo Salah
According to The Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent James Pearce, RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande is the ‘leading candidate’ to replace Salah.
The 19-year-old claimed 13 goals and 11 assists for RB Leipzig last term and could already be on his way out of the German club after just one year.
Speaking on The Athletic FC podcast, Pearce revealed that Liverpool are keen to add more pace out wide ahead of next season. He said: “We know that Yan Diomande at RB Leipzig is the leading candidate as things stand. He is a really exciting young player.”
Talks are reportedly already underway between Liverpool and RB Leipzig over a deal for Diomande although the Reds will not eb the only ones chasing his signature this summer.
With Salah departing, the Reds have now lost two of the three forwards who helped them win the Premier League title in 2024/25. Luis Diaz joined Bayern Munich last summer and no like-for-like replacement was signed.
And without Salah, the Reds have lost yet more pace from their forward line.
Liverpool could be helped in their pursuit of Diomande after he previously revealed it was his dream to play for the club, having grown up supporting the Reds.
Yan Diomande has huge potential
The 2025/26 season was Diomande’s first campaign as a regular starter in the senior game. He had his breakthrough with CD Leganés in La Liga but only played 10 games for the Spanish side before joining Leipzig.
He has been described as ‘lethal’ and could be the long-term answer as the Reds seek to replace Salah. Aged 19, he still has his whole career ahead of him.
It will be difficult for any player to live up to Salah, who scored 257 goals and provided 123 assists in 442 games for Liverpool.
Diomande is still young and he would not be expected to reach Salah’s level in his first or even second season.
However, he has been described as a player with huge potential and his value is only expected to rise beyond the £87million Leipzig want for him this summer.

Man Utd Close to Reaching Full Agreement to Sign Ederson in Next 48 Hours
Manchester United are close to reaching a full agreement for Michael Carrick’s first signing, with talks over a fee to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson at the final stages, according to Sky Sports.
Man United are wasting no time in their bid to strengthen the squad ahead of their return to the Champions League next season, with new players needed to boost a squad that will be wanting to fight strongly on two fronts in the 2026-27 campaign, as well as in the domestic cup competitions.
With the start of the World Cup a fortnight away, the Red Devils appear to be taking their opportunity to wrap up some transfer business early, given some of their transfer targets are likely to be taking part in the tournament in North America.
Ederson missed out on a spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad, which will be a positive for United as it means he can join up with them for the start of pre-season should a deal go ahead.
The Red Devils’ recruitment team have identified central midfield as a key position for months, with Casemiro’s summer exit being confirmed in January, and a general shortage of quality and depth in that area.
Man United Agreement for Ederson Broken Down
According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, posting on X, Manchester United are close to agreeing a deal with Atalanta to sign Ederson.
The ‘world-class’ Brazilian has already agreed terms on a five-year contract, according to GIVEMESPORT sources, with a club-to-club agreement now on the verge of being reached.
According to Sky Sports, the deal will be worth around €44m (£38m), with the deal being broken down to €40.5m guaranteed for the Serie A outfit, and a further €3.5m in add-ons.
The outlet add that a full agreement could be reached by the end of the week, which is just over 24 hours away.
Man United Chasing Other Midfield Transfers
While United work on a deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta, a report from Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb at the weekend suggested they are also close to an agreement to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.
Calciomercato had reported previously that Carrick wanted the Italy international to be his first signing at Old Trafford ahead of Ederson, showing how keen he is on a deal.
Negotiations with Newcastle are likely to be more difficult though, with the Magpies said to value the 26-year-old at €100m (£86m), which is a significantly higher fee than Ederson’s.
Still, the Red Devils are ready to put big money behind the right Casemiro replacement, so we can’t rule out a big-money Tonali deal in the coming weeks.
United continue to look at other midfield options too, with Manuel Ugarte potentially joining Casemiro through the Old Trafford exit door, with Mateus Fernandes of West Ham United and Carlos Baleba of Brighton and Hove Albion two more Premier League-based targets.
As with Ederson, the Red Devils are exploring opportunities from abroad too, with Real Madrid duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde both linked in recent weeks, having been involved in a big behind-scenes bust-up on the training pitch.

Former Man Utd Player Demands Bruno Fernandes’ Assist Record is Removed
Manchester United enjoyed a fine season in 2025/26, finishing up in third place and claiming a spot in next season’s Champions League competition.
The Red Devils finished 14 points off top, but also 14 points above sixth-placed Bournemouth, showing their quality, with captain Bruno Fernandes leading the way with his performances in a record-breaking campaign in which he registered 21 assists in the Premier League, more than anyone else in the history of the division.
But the record-breaking assist for the Portugal international, which came on the final day in the 3-0 win over Brighton, was shrouded in controversy, with some calling for it to be recorded as an own goal after Patrick Dorgu’s header rebounded off the crossbar and hit the hand of goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen before going in.
The Premier League have since confirmed that the record will stand, after the dubious goal panel gave Dorgu the goal, but one ex-Man Utd star has called for them to reconsider their decision.
Man Utd Icon Wants Fernandes Assist Chalked Off
Plenty of rival fans have been calling for the assist to be scrapped, with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne previously holding the record of 20 assists in a Premier League season.
And while speaking to BetVictor, via The Sun, former Man Utd midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba was asked for his opinion on the situation, and he revealed that he is in the same boat and feels that it should be chalked off.
“I think it should be chalked off,” he said.
“You can clearly see what happened. The ball did not cross the line properly and it came back off the goalkeeper into the net.
“In my opinion, they need to remove it. If the rules are the rules, then it should not count as an assist.”
Djemba-Djemba is widely regarded as one of the worst signings from the Sir Alex Ferguson era, having played just 39 games for the club over 18 months before leaving for Aston Villa.
Fernandes Deserves Assist Record
Assists have always been a bit of a weird phenomenon in football, because you be credited with one for a sideways one yard pass, and receive nothing at all if you dribble past the whole team and play a pass to someone else who sets up the goal.
But what Fernandes did this season, while playing as a holding midfielder for much of the campaign under Ruben Amorim in a struggling team, before leading the side to a third-place finish and registering goals or assists against all but three opponents this season, tells you how good he was.
Some replays show that the ball was heading in before the touch off the goalkeeper, while others show the opposite. There’s nothing concrete, and therefore it would be crazy for the league to take the assist, and therefore the record, away from him.
