Tight security at Lagos APC secretariat ahead governorship primary
Heavy security presence was observed around the All Progressives Congress, APC, secretariat in Ogba, Ikeja, on Thursday morning as the party commenced deployment of personnel and materials for its governorship primary election.
Security operatives, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force, personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and other agencies, were stationed around the secretariat to maintain order and monitor activities.
Several patrol vehicles carrying armed security personnel were strategically positioned within and around the premises as electoral materials and officials departed for different parts of the state.
Vehicles transporting ballot papers, result sheets, and electoral officers to local government areas and designated voting centres were seen leaving the APC secretariat ahead of the commencement of the exercise.
Party officials and electoral personnel reportedly arrived at the secretariat from as early as 6:00 a.m. for the sorting and distribution of both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials.
Speaking with journalists, the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the APC Primaries Local Organising Committee, Sesan Daini, said the party had strengthened its logistics arrangements to avoid delays during the exercise.
“We have learnt a lot in the course of these primaries. That is why we deployed early today to avoid delays at the various centres,” he said.
According to Daini, the APC was determined to ensure a smooth and timely conduct of the primary election across Lagos State.
“We want our election officers to go and return early. We want to ensure the winner emerges today and is declared today,” he added.
He expressed confidence that the governorship primary would proceed peacefully, noting that the party had settled for a consensus candidate ahead of the exercise.
“We expect a peaceful exercise because the party has gotten a consensus candidate. We believe members will conduct themselves responsibly,” he said.
Daini further disclosed that some electoral officers had already arrived at their assigned centres ahead of voting.

Better Nigeria still possible despite hardship — ADC in Eid el-Kabir message
The opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged Nigerians not to give up hope despite worsening economic hardship and insecurity across the country as Muslims celebrate Eid al-Kabir.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the Sallah season comes at a particularly difficult time for many citizens struggling with rising food prices, unemployment and uncertainty about the future.
The party, however, said Nigerians must continue to believe in the possibility of a better country.
“We believe deeply that beyond the hardship and frustration of this moment lies the possibility of a stronger, safer, and more prosperous nation,” the statement said.
The ADC added that Eid al-Kabir symbolises sacrifice, faith, obedience and compassion, stressing that the lessons of the season are especially important for Nigeria at this time.
According to the party, “faith is most meaningful in difficult seasons”, urging citizens not to surrender to despair despite the challenges facing the country.
The party also expressed optimism that Nigeria could still recover and achieve progress with responsible leadership and unity among citizens.
“We believe in a Nigeria where real leadership works for the people, where young people can dream again, where farmers can return safely to their farms, where businesses can grow, and where ordinary citizens can once again live with dignity and hope,” the statement added.
The ADC further called on leaders at all levels to reflect on the meaning of responsibility during the festive period, while praying for peace, healing and unity across the country.
“History has shown that nations recover when citizens refuse to stop believing in a better future,” the party stated.
