2027: Turaki PDP faction speaks on alleged refusal to sell presidential forms

The Tanimu Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has denied allegations that it is preventing aspirants from purchasing nomination forms for the 2027 presidential election.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong.

It read, “We are aware of an allegation of the party’s refusal the sale of form to an aspirant to the office of the President. We state clearly that the Interim National Working Committee is not aware of any hindrance by the party through its officials to prevent anybody from purchasing the forms.

“In fact, the party had in response to the appeal by party members, recently amended the timetable to grant extension of time for more people to purchase and complete their forms.

“By the amended timetable, the last date for purchase and return of completed forms is Friday 22nd May 2026, and the special screening for those yet to be screened is on Saturday 23rd May 2026.

“It is worth mentioning that though the National Executive Committee of our party had long ago zoned the presidential ticket to aspirants from the southern part of Nigeria, the right to aspire is a constitutional provision which cannot be circumscribed by directional agreements like zoning.

“To this end, we urge the public to discountenance any story alleging that the party is preventing people from purchasing forms.

“We reiterate that our forms are still available within the period provided for in the amended timetable and all Nigerians seeking to genuinely contest on our platform are free to obtain, fill and return their forms,” it stated.

Better Nigeria still possible despite hardship — ADC in Eid el-Kabir message

The opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged Nigerians not to give up hope despite worsening economic hardship and insecurity across the country as Muslims celebrate Eid al-Kabir.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the Sallah season comes at a particularly difficult time for many citizens struggling with rising food prices, unemployment and uncertainty about the future.

The party, however, said Nigerians must continue to believe in the possibility of a better country.

“We believe deeply that beyond the hardship and frustration of this moment lies the possibility of a stronger, safer, and more prosperous nation,” the statement said.

The ADC added that Eid al-Kabir symbolises sacrifice, faith, obedience and compassion, stressing that the lessons of the season are especially important for Nigeria at this time.

According to the party, “faith is most meaningful in difficult seasons”, urging citizens not to surrender to despair despite the challenges facing the country.

The party also expressed optimism that Nigeria could still recover and achieve progress with responsible leadership and unity among citizens.

“We believe in a Nigeria where real leadership works for the people, where young people can dream again, where farmers can return safely to their farms, where businesses can grow, and where ordinary citizens can once again live with dignity and hope,” the statement added.

The ADC further called on leaders at all levels to reflect on the meaning of responsibility during the festive period, while praying for peace, healing and unity across the country.

“History has shown that nations recover when citizens refuse to stop believing in a better future,” the party stated.
