I’m Labour Party guber aspirant – Benue politician, Byuan distances self from APC

Published

on

The sole Labour Party, LP, aspirant for governorship in Benue State, Dr Mathias Byuan, has described his inclusion in the gubernatorial primaries list of Benue State by the All Progressive Congress, APC, as mischief, false, misleading and unauthorised.

Dr Byuan, in a press statement personally signed on Thursday, said he officially resigned his membership of the APC and duly withdrew his aspiration under the party, and wondered why the APC would mischievously publish his name amongst gubernatorial aspirants, even when he did not present himself for the party’s screening.

The APC had earlier on Thursday, released the list of cleared aspirants to run for governorship in Benue State, and erroneously included Byuan amongst the contestants.

APC is currently running the guber primaries across the 23 local government areas in Benue, with Dr Byuan purportedly captured amongst the contestants.

But Byuan, in his statement on Thursday, titled: ‘Unauthorised circulation of my name as an APC Gubernatorial Aspirant for Benue State’, called on Benue populace, the APC, the LP and Nigerianthe  public to disregard the ongoing APC primaries, distancing himself from anything related to the APC in Benue State.

“I, Mathias Terwase Byuan PhD, wish to state without any iota of ambiguity that I am no longer a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and I am not an aspirant for the office of Governor of Benue State under the APC.

“I resigned my membership of the APC on the 7th May 2026. I duly notified my Council Ward Chairman in writing on the said date.

“I also transmitted a copy of the resignation letter to the National Chairman of the APC on the 8th May 2026. The letter was received and acknowledged by his office.

“To ensure proper service and avoid any denial, I forwarded a copy of the resignation letter via DHL to the party.

“I further executed a Notary Public attestation of my voluntary withdrawal and submitted it to the Screening Committee of the party. I have also formally withdrawn my candidacy in writing to the Chairman of the APC Screening Committee.

“For the avoidance of doubt, any list, publication, or circulation bearing my name as an aspirant cleared to contest for the APC Governorship ticket is false, misleading, and unauthorized. I am not bound by any resolution or process relating to the said primaries”, Byaun said.

He added that he is now running for the office of the Governor of Benue State under the platform of the Labour Party, and has since been screened and awaiting the party’s primaries on the 30th of May, 2026.

The LP Guber hopeful also attached to his press statement, a letter of his APC membership resignation to his Council Ward Chairman; APC Letter of Voluntary Withdrawal with Notary Public attestation to the National Chairman; Letter of Withdrawal of his Candidacy to the Chairman, Screening Committee of the party; and the Certificate of Screening handed to him by the Labour Party Screening Committee.

Consequently, he urged the general public, party members, media outlets, and supporters to take note and disregard any contrary information.

Meanwhile, Dr Byuan reiterated his continued support for President Bola Tinubu, saying he believes so much in his Renewed Hope Agenda, calling on all Benue people to come out en masse and vote for Tinubu in 2027, while urging them to support his guber ambition and those of all other Labour Party candidates in Benue State.

2027: ADC is Atiku’s vehicle to truncate southern presidency – APC chieftain

Published

By

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ayekooto Akindele, has said the African Democratic Congress, ADC, is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s vehicle to truncate southern presidency.

Ayekooto was reacting to remarks by the Obidient Movement that Peter Obi made a wise decision decamping from ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

He explained that Atiku tried to use the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to get power to return to the North but failed.

Posting on his Facebook page, Ayekooto wrote: “ObiDENTs say Obi is a wise politician by not contesting in the ADC Primary but instead ran away from the party. I disagree with them.

“The most foolish ignorance of any politician is not to know from the beginning that ADC was Atiku’s vehicle to truncate the Southern presidential term.

“It was an arrangement to return power to the North after 8 years of Buhari and 4 years of Tinubu. He had earlier used PDP but failed.

“So, Obi would have been wise if he didn’t join ADC at all. And the most foolish thing he did was to decamp from LP and he ended up in NDC. This clearly shows that Alex Otti is a sensible man and Pita is a foolish man to the core.”

According to him, the exercise was marred by serious infractions in several areas.

“There were reports of irregularities and malpractice in some local governments, while Gwaram witnessed threats of violence capable of disrupting the process completely,” Ahmed added.

Don’t be deterred – Aisha Yesufu to supporters ahead of NDC senatorial primary

Socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu has declared that elections cannot be won through social media propaganda or orchestrated smear campaigns.

Yesufu made the remark in a post on her X handle on Wednesday while addressing members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and her supporters ahead of the party’s primaries in the FCT.

According to her, political victory can only be achieved through direct engagement with the electorate based on empathy, compassion and respect.

“Election is not won by social media propaganda nor by an orchestrated smear campaign. Election is won by engaging the electorate one wishes to serve respectfully and with empathy and compassion,” she wrote.

The activist urged registered members of the NDC in the FCT to remain focused on promoting the party and electing candidates capable of representing their interests.

She stated that the era of making political choices out of fear was over, adding that voters must now make decisions based on courage and belief in the principle that “power belongs to the people.”

Yesufu also charged her supporters to continue mobilisation efforts across the 62 wards in the FCT, insisting that her camp was prepared for the primaries.

“To my teeming supporters across the FCT, do not be deterred, continue your ground work across the 62 wards. We are ready to meet them on the primaries ground,” she added.

Repeating her stance, Yesufu asked: “Who is afraid of primaries?”
