Arsenal Want to Sell 4 Stars After Losing Champions League Final

Published

on

It was a brilliant season for Arsenal as they won the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years. However, Mikel Arteta will look back on it with a sense of frustration after the Gunners came so close to a historical double.

Indeed, the Gunners were beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, losing on penalties after the teams played out a 1-1 draw across 120 minutes. The club’s Spanish manager is not one to rest on his laurels, and it appears as though Arsenal are already working on improving in 2026/27.

The summer transfer market is the most obvious way to address any shortcomings. With that in mind, it seems Arteta and his staff will be busy in the coming months with some notable arrivals. To fund that, however, some players will have to leave.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, four key men are now going to be shown the exit door after that Champions League disappointment, and four players who could replace them.

Ben White

Ben White

Ben White has long been one of the most reliable players in Arteta’s team, respected by teammates and fans for regularly putting his body on the line for the club since arriving from Brighton in 2021. Sadly, that commitment has cost him at times, and he’s spent the past two seasons plagued by injuries.

Jurrien Timber has made the first-choice right-back spot his own, while Cristhian Mosquera appears to be an able alternative as well. That said, the report names Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento as a potential target this summer.

Gabriel Martinelli

One of the few players in the current team to have joined before Arteta took charge, Gabriel Martinelli arrived as a teenager in 2019 and quickly established himself as a first-team regular. While a reliable squad option, just one goal in the Premier League this season is far from ideal.

If Arsenal want to reach an even greater level, it’s little wonder they are looking at the left flank as an area to improve upon. The report suggests Marcus Rashford could be of interest ‘if the price is right’.

Leandro Trossard

Leandro Trossard has proved to be worth every penny since signing from Brighton in January 2023 for just £27m. That said, he’s never quite been spectacular enough to truly make the left-wing position his own, sharing duties with Martinelli.

Now 31, it appears as though Arteta may be willing to cash in on the Belgian. If this is the case, the report names Aston Villa’s £80m-rated Morgan Rogers as an ‘admired’ option to bolster the attack. The Englishman plays more centrally at times for Villa, but has spent plenty of time on the wing across his career.

Gabriel Jesus

Finally, Gabriel Jesus looks set to leave. Although the report suggests he’d be willing to stay around and gain British citizenship, Arsenal have said the 29-year-old can leave if they offer over £18m. The Brazilian was electric when he first arrived, but a bad knee injury during the 2022 World Cup has derailed his career in north London.

The dream replacement is said to be Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez. His preference is Barcelona but the Gunners may have a chance if they are willing to pay the £120m price tag, especially as Atletico don’t seem keen to sell to their La Liga rivals.

Man Utd Also Set to Complete Signing of Cristian Orozco

Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but he could be one of a number of midfielders to arrive at Old Trafford this summer, with another transfer close to completion, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Man United will seal a deal to bring Brazil international Ederson to Old Trafford ‘unless something crazy happens’, according to Fabrizio Romano, with personal terms already agreed for the 26-year-old to move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are expected to agree a deal with the Serie A outfit worth under £40m for the Brazilian, as they begin a major midfield rebuild this summer.

Casemiro is already confirmed to be leaving having struck up a successful relationship with Kobbie Mainoo during the second half of this season, with Manuel Ugarte expected to join him through the exit door if the club has their way.

Should that happen, Ederson could be one of three senior central midfielders to arrive over the course of the next few months, but they are also looking at bringing in young players who can make the grade too.

United have signed the likes of Diego Leon, Sekou Kone, Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi in recent seasons, and they are set to land another in Cristian Orozco.

Man United Will Sign Cristian Orozco in July

Michael Carrick

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will complete the signing of 17-year-old Colombian midfielder Orozco next month.

Last year, United reached a preliminary agreement with Fortaleza CEIF for Orozco to move to Old Trafford in this summer transfer window, given he couldn’t complete a move until he is 18 years of age.

The midfielder spent the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign at Fortaleza, but is now set to travel to England next month to complete a move.

Orozco was included in 11 Fortaleza first-team squads this season, making two starts and two substitute appearances in a breakthrough campaign.

Orozo Described as the ‘Next Casemiro’

While Man United are determined to land a big-money replacement for Casemiro this summer, they may already have their long-term replacement for the Brazilian in Orozco.

The 17-year-old has been described by scouts as the ‘next Casemiro’ according to one prominent statistician on X, given he is a midfield destroyer with progressive distribution and leadership maturity beyond his teenage years.

Orozco has already been shown around Carrington and Old Trafford in December, having been identified as an exciting sensation with potential to be a first-team player for the Red Devils in the future.

The signings of players like Kone, Leon and Orozco at low cost are seen as low-risk, high-reward signings for the club, which will supplement some of the big-money additions the club makes.

As well as Ederson and Orozco, United are still looking at other midfield options with West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni some of the names mentioned the most in recent weeks.

The Red Devils will hope to deliver Michael Carrick the squad he needs to compete strongly in the Champions League, while maintaining their Premier League position, next term.

‘I Don’t Like Man Utd Legend Sir Alex Ferguson’

Having revealed in January that he’d been diagnosed with stage-four cancer, the most severe category of the disease, Kevin Keegan returned to the public eye in remarkable fashion, appearing on stage at King’s Lynn’s Corn Exchange theatre looking, by all accounts, trim, sharp and full of the characteristic energy that made him one of the most beloved figures English football ever produced.

Keegan remains an enormously popular figure across the game, from Liverpool to Hamburg, from Newcastle to the England dugout, and when he walked back out in front of an audience, the warmth directed at him was palpable. He even addressed his prognosis with his trademark humour, recalling asking his consultant about his success rate (per The Telegraph):

“About three out of 10. I said to him if he was a striker and he only scored three times out of 10 I’d drop him. But so far, whatever he did to me, it’s working.”

Kevin Keegan Revisits Rant That Defined a Title Race

No evening with Keegan would be complete without someone asking about that moment, the one that’s been replayed thousands of times, the one that encapsulated the emotion of the 1995/96 Premier League title race in a single outburst.

When an audience member asked whether he regretted his infamous “I will love it if we beat them” rant, directed at Sir Alex Ferguson live on Sky Sports during the most intense period of Newcastle’s ultimately doomed title challenge, Keegan’s response was disarmingly honest. The first time he heard it back, he said, he barely recognised himself: “I said: who is that bloke? I just didn’t think it was me. It certainly didn’t sound like me.”

It remains one of the most iconic off-the-pitch moments in Premier League history. Newcastle had been 12 points clear at the top of the table and were being reeled in by Manchester United, with Ferguson publicly appearing to get under Keegan’s skin through a series of remarks about other clubs’ desire to compete.

When Keegan finally snapped, it effectively handed United the title. Whether that’s entirely fair is debatable, but the clip followed Keegan everywhere in the three decades since.

The England legend believed that the British footballer was special.

Kevin Keegan Admits he Simply Does not Like Sir Alex Ferguson

It was within the same answer that Keegan delivered perhaps the most candid line of the entire evening:

“I don’t like Alex Ferguson. Though obviously I absolutely respect everything he achieved as a manager.”

The rivalry between the two men during those extraordinary mid-nineties title races clearly left a mark that time hadn’t erased. Ferguson’s mind games, his public comments about Leeds United not wanting to hand Newcastle the title, and his relentless psychological pressure on Keegan during that period evidently left a lasting impression. An impression that Keegan, even now at 75, and having stared down a stage-four cancer diagnosis, has no interest in papering over.

He respects what Ferguson achieved, but it doesn’t mean he has to like him. And there’s something refreshingly honest about a man of Keegan’s stature being willing to say so out loud, even 30 years later.

Liverpool Ready to Hijack Man Utd Talks to Sign Mateus Fernandes

Liverpool are set to hijack Manchester United talks to sign an ‘elite’ midfielder this summer as they close in on the appointment of Andoni Iraola, according to TEAMtalk.

Liverpool and Man United were battling for a top-four finish in the Premier League season, and now they could be set for a transfer fight off the pitch too.

The Merseyside outfit are closing in on hiring Iraola following Arne Slot’s surprise exit at the weekend, after a disappointing season that saw them finish in fifth and concede more goals than they ever had in the Premier League before.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard picked up many plaudits after leading Bournemouth to Europa League football, before leaving the Vitality Stadium when his contract expired.

With exits confirmed for Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate already, Iraola will know that he has some work to do over the summer to strengthen a squad that visibly struggled this season.

While there has been a lot of talk about how the Reds will look to strengthen in attack, to add to the incoming arrival of Jeremy Jacquet at the back, more reinforcements are needed across the pitch.

A midfield refresh could also be on the agenda, with Curtis Jones expected to leave and players like Alexis Mac Allister struggling during the 2025-26 campaign.

Liverpool ‘Ones to Watch’ in Mateus Fernandes Transfer Race

West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes celebrates scoring vs Sunderland

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are ‘ones to watch’ in the race to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes after he was given the green light to leave the club following their relegation to the Championship.

The Portugal international is subject to interest from many big clubs across Europe, including the Reds and Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The Red Devils have already accelerated talks with the player and his agents, while they and Arsenal have made contact with the Hammers over a summer deal, according to the report.

Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on the ‘elite’ 21-year-old, but Liverpool are emerging as the club to watch in the race for his signature.

Fernandes is said to be keen to join United, with the opportunity to link up with compatriot Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford attractive.

West Ham Want £80m for Mateus Fernandes

The report adds that West Ham are demanding up to £80m for their star man despite their relegation to the Championship, which would smash the record for the league previously set when Chelsea signed Romeo Lavia from Southampton for £53m in 2024.

Despite the fierce battle for Fernandes’ signature, the feeling is that the Irons will have to settle for a lower fee as the Portuguese midfielder seeks a summer exit.

Offers are expected to be around the £60m mark for the 21-year-old, with clubs knowing that West Ham need to balance the books ahead of a season in the English second tier.

Fernandes is said to be open to a move away from England to join PSG too, after they defended their Champions League title by beating Arsenal on Saturday.
