2027: Very courageous of Dickson to form NDC instead of joining APC
A public affairs analyst, Mahmud Jega, has commended former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, for forming the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, instead of joining the ruling party.
Featuring in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Wednesday, Jega said the NDC has attracted so much crowd within a short period of time, noting that Dickson took a bold decision.
According to him, the NDC has become popular and one of the top three parties within the short time it was formed.
“It was quite courageous of him. Most people who leave opposition parties often join the APC, including governors, believing it offers a stronger structure and financial backing.
“However, he chose a different path. Instead of joining the APC, he went ahead to form an opposition party, which was a bold decision.
“He also managed to convince many people to join him in building and sustaining it. He also made a valid point by saying there’s no democracy without opposition,” Jega said.

The senate on Thursday distanced itself from the warrant of arrest issued against Mele Kyari, former group chief executive officer, GCEO, of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Limited, by its committee on public accounts.
It also distanced itself from comments attributed to Adams Oshiomhole, senator representing Edo North.
Oshiomhole reportedly described the NNPC as a bunch of criminals and thieves during the committee’s hearing on Wednesday.
In response the NNPC said it was not a thief.

The G-60 Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives on Thursday protested against the failure of the leadership of the House to address the controversy surrounding the position of Minority Leader.
This followed the move to shut out Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere from emerging as the Minority Leader of the House.
DAILY POST reports that the House Wednesday adopted a resolution barring first-time members from occupying principal officers’ positions.
The decision, however, did not go down well with members of the G-60, who stormed the Green chamber during plenary on Thursday, demanding that the leadership of the House address the issue.
According to them, the plenary proceedings are on hold if the House leadership fails to address the crisis.
Reports indicated that the group led by Ikenga Imo-Ugochinyere have thrown their weight behind members representing Sagbama-Ekeremor Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, Fred Agbedi as Minority Leader and Abdusammad Dasuki as deputy.

The House of Representatives on Thursday completed the composition of its minority leadership following the unanimous nomination and endorsement of three lawmakers to fill vacant principal officer positions in the opposition caucus.
The announcement was made on the floor of the House during plenary, where the minority members of the 10th House of Representatives presented a consensus list for the positions of minority leader, deputy minority leader and minority whip.
According to the nomination, Rep. Frederick Agbedi was endorsed as the new minority leader, while Rep. Abdulsamad Dasuki was nominated to serve as deputy minority leader. Rep. Mansur Soro was named Minority Whip.
Presiding over the session, Speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, formally announced the nominations and declared the minority leadership positions filled.
He said the development completed the composition of the House’s principal officers and expressed confidence in the ability of the newly appointed leaders to contribute to the legislative work of the 10th Assembly. “Today, the body of principal officers is complete,” Abbas said.
The Speaker congratulated the three lawmakers on their emergence and assured them of the support and cooperation of the House leadership.
“I want to seize this opportunity, on behalf of the entire House, to congratulate the three persons and wish them all the best in their new positions.
Let them be assured that the leadership of the House will work with them assiduously in ensuring that we achieve the legislative agenda and objectives of this very important 10th Assembly,” he stated.
The appointments followed consultations among opposition parties in the House aimed at filling the vacant positions and ensuring effective representation of the minority caucus in the leadership structure of the chamber.
With the latest nominations, both the majority and minority caucuses now have their full complement of principal officers, a development expected to strengthen legislative coordination and parliamentary oversight in the House.
