Liverpool Battle For Nico Schlotterbeck Transfer Heats Up

Published

on

Liverpool are facing a battle to land one of their key transfer targets this summer, as Mundo Deportivo reports that Real Madrid are growing in confidence in their hopes of signing the defender instead.

It comes as the Reds continue to be linked with centre-back options in the transfer market, as the club hope to future proof the position in the coming weeks.

Ibrahima Konate’s exit as a free agent has thrown out a potential issue in the backline, with the 27-year-old failing to agree a deal and making the move to Real Madrid instead.

The arrival of Jeremy Jacquet, boosted by the return of Giovanni Leoni from injury, means that there are options to pair with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in the backline.

However, as the latter pair only have one year remaining on their contracts, there may be concerns for next year and beyond, as links continue for another centre-back to join the club this summer.

Nico Schlotterbeck

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Nico Schlotterbeck this summer, as the defender could be on the move in the transfer market.

It’s not the first time the Reds have shown interest in the Germany international, who could be available for roughly £50 million due to a release clause in his contract.

The deal signed at Borussia Dortmund includes the clause, but it can only be triggered by certain clubs, and it’s unclear whether Liverpool are one of those included.

One team who are certainly included are Real Madrid, as they have appeared as an option for the 26-year-old, who has been described as “elite” through his performances.

And even though Los Blancos are set to confirm Konate as a signing, the old foe are set to impact Liverpool further as the report from Mundo Deportivo claims that Schlotterbeck is a “strong contender” to be the club’s next signing.

Jose Mourinho, who also had his fair share of scrapes with Liverpool, is claimed to be keen on the centre-back and could deal a blow to the Reds in the process.

It remains to be seen whether the battle will heat up with concrete offers in the coming weeks, but Iraola’s side may need to start positioning themselves for a move to get a deal done quickly.

Liverpool Defender Priority

Liverpool have a balancing act that comes with their business in the summer transfer window, as they must weigh up the need to improve the squad for this coming season, as well as looking beyond the campaign to the future.

As it stands, the need for a defender is further down in the pecking order, with sufficient depth within the team for at least next season.

The forward ranks remain the most pressing concern, as talks continue to sign Yan Diomande for the right wing, while interest persists over other options up front.

Then attention could switch to the midfield, with interest in Alex Scott among other players such as Adam Wharton for the centre of the pitch.

Deal Agreed: Liverpool Set to Seal Signing of World Cup Star

Liverpool appear to be closing in on a surprise transfer this summer to bolster Andoni Iraola’s forward options.

Only once those areas are sorted should Liverpool look to fix the centre-back position, adding a long-term option to replace Van Dijk at the end of his deal, with the quality to do so almost immediately.

It remains to be seen whether that possibility will come about, given the funds required for stars such as Schlotterbeck, on top of the other signings.

Ilia Topuria Medical Update After UFC Freedom 250

Published

New medical updates have emerged regarding Ilia Topuria following his brutal encounter with Justin Gaethje at this weekend’s UFC Freedom 250.

The event, hosted by President Donald Trump, took place on the South Lawn of the White House to celebrate his 80th birthday and the nation’s 250th anniversary. One of the most anticipated bouts came between the Georgian-Spanish Ilia Topuria and American Justin Gaethje in the main event for the UFC lightweight title.

The veteran, Gaethje, secured a massive upset over his opponent and thus secured the lightweight title. The stoppage came in the fourth round when, after a vicious left-right combination in the third, and an extended break for doctors to check on Topuria, his team threw in the towel.

That may have been obvious to anyone watching; one look at the former champion’s face after the encounter would create concern for his well-being and would certainly raise questions regarding his condition going forward. Certainly, some sort of broken facial bones would be expected, with Topuria’s face looking as badly beaten as it did.

However, it was reported late last night, the 15th of June, by As Mas Deporte that there were ‘no breaks or interventions’ and that ‘Ilia Topuria is fine’, and has ‘no breaks’, as was speculated by Dana White during the post-event press conference.

Further confirmation has come from within Topuria’s team itself, with Inigo Perez saying: “Ilia is OK. Only injuries that need recovery time after a tough fight. He is out of the hospital, at home.”

This is good news for the fighter and for the fans who had been showing immediate concern for his well-being in the aftermath of the event.

Ilia Topuria’s First Statement After UFC Freedom 250

Topuria has also taken to Instagram to break his silence regarding the fight. He wrote: “Justin, congratulations. You said you’d leave your mark on my face….and you did.” He continued: “You took the sight from my right eye in the first round, and by the end of the second, from my left too.”

The American has spoken out after he fell to defeat in the main event of the White House Front Lawn occasion.

He posted a photo of Gaethje checking in on him to accompany these words, and also claimed that there were no excuses and that it’s the nature of the game.

It seems like the story between Gaethje and Topuria is not over following the weekend’s event, and certainly does not feel like the last time they will step inside the Octagon together. In fact, in the same Instagram post, Topuria wrote: “We will have our rematch.”

Arsenal are plotting a surprise move to sign a Tottenham defender during the summer transfer window, and he’s set to leave the club at the end of this month.

It’s not often that we see players move from Arsenal to Tottenham or Tottenham to Arsenal, and it would often be considered a controversial move.

Sol Campbell is certainly the most notable in recent history when he joined Arsenal after his Tottenham contract expired in 2001.

The English defender’s decision certainly didn’t go down well with Spurs supporters after he had made over 250 appearances for the club.

It is rare that Tottenham or Arsenal would sanction a move between the two sides, but when contracts expire in the summer, it is difficult for them to have any control.

Upson is the son of former Arsenal and England centre-back Matthew. He joined Spurs at the age of seven, and now, over ten years later, he looks set to be heading through the exit door.

Reports emerged that Upson had been offered a professional contract by Tottenham, but he opted against putting pen to paper in order to move on.

Upson was a regular for Spurs’s under 18 side during the 2025-2026 season, and he even appeared for the under-21s.

Manchester United have opened talks to sign another West Ham star alongside Mateus Fernandes, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The Red Devils have been pushing to secure the signature of Fernandes during the summer transfer window as they look to revamp their current midfield options.

Casemiro left the club following the expiration of his contract this summer, meaning United are looking to bring in at least one midfielder.

They will also be hoping to reinforce other areas of the pitch, especially after qualifying for the Champions League last season.

Michael Carrick needs to add more depth, competition and quality to his squad to deal with the extra fixtures and the better quality of opposition they will be facing.

According to Ornstein, Manchester United are paying serious attention to West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is claimed that United have opened talks about his situation with the Hammers, and they are aware that he is expected to cost in the region of £50 million.

Any move could depend on the future of Marcus Rashford after Barcelona opted against activating his €30m buy option following his season-long loan.

The report also claims that talks are advancing for Manchester United to sign Fernandes so they could try to secure a double deal to raid West Ham this summer.

Summerville Destined to Leave West Ham

Crysencio Summerville

Summerville, like Fernandes, is destined to leave West Ham in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Dutch winger is currently starring at the World Cup and scored in their opening game of the tournament.

West Ham were recently relegated from the Premier League, so there is little chance that Summerville will want to continue plying his trade in the Championship.

With clubs like Manchester United showing an interest, there is certainly going to be a route back to the Premier League for Summerville, and it feels incredibly unlikely that he will be playing in the second tier.
