We have elected officials – Accord rejects deregistration order
The Accord Party in Oyo State has rejected the judgment of the Federal High Court ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister five parties, including the party.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Peter Lifu in his judgment on Monday directed INEC to deregister Accord, ADC, AA, APP and ZLP for failing to secure 25 per cent votes in the last election as required by the constitution.
The Accord Party’s Secretary, Hon Olayinka Dairo told NAN in Ibadan, on Tuesday, that the party had elected officials in states and so could not be deregistered.
“We have like two or three councilors, and they are also elected.
“So all the reasons they have been giving that Accord is part of the parties that were deregistered is not realistic; I wonder why Accord is listed,” he said.
Dairo said that Accord had already filed an appeal against the judgment and will seek a stay of execution pending determination of the appeal.
When asked whether the appeal had been filed, Dairo replied: “definitely, 100 per cent.
“We have appealed the case in Abuja because we saw this coming earlier.”
The judgmetnt delivered followed suit no. FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, filed by the Incorporated Trustees of National Forum of Former Legislators against the five parties.

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has thrown his weight behind Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of next year’s general elections.
In a video sighted by DAILY POST, Melaye described Obi as someone who has the intellectual and administrative capacity of being a President.
He said Nigeria needs a unifier who has the capacity to address insecurity.
The former lawmaker said, “Fellow countrymen and women, I’m here to address you once again in the course of our nation’s history. We need a unifier. I’m here to address Nigerians, especially my brother and friend, the former Governor of Anambra State, and the former Vice Presidential candidate of our political party, Peter Obi.
“He is one of the finest Nigerians who is intellectually mobile and administratively sagacious. He’s a great Nigerian, and by the grace of God, he has the potential of being a great president.
“I celebrate your conscience of the Nigerian youths and public on governance and building a new Nigeria. So I want to say it is time for us to think.
“I encourage the crusade, the movement started by Peter Obi, to continue, move from campus to campus, move from community to community, move from one progressive group and organization from this country to another to campaign for the new Nigeria that is to come and be part of the movement to rebuild, to restructure, to reorganize, and reboot Nigeria as a country.
“We must speak the truth, and the truth is the truth. The truth of the matter is we need a unifier. We need one Nigerian that can solve the problem of insecurity in this country. We need a Nigerian that will have intel from every security facet of our national life.”

The Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, has said that allegations of signature forgery made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole (Edo North) on the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi central) will be reviewed.
Adaramodu said this in an interview with The cable. He said: “The Senate will take a cursory look at either extraneous, spontaneous or intentional comments from any senator appropriately.”
Vanguard reported that Oshiomhole alleged that the names of at least three senators were improperly included on the Senate Committee report that recommended the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
According to Oshiomhole, several lawmakers whose names appeared on the report told him they neither signed the document nor endorsed its recommendations. Read that story HERE.
However, speaking to The Cable on Tuesday, Senate spokesperson said: “We are going to review any statements made by him (Oshiomhole). The senate will take a cursory look at either extraneous, spontaneous or intentional comments from any senator appropriately.
“We are going to look into it. We will take a stand and everyone will know where we stand. But we can say no senator has reported that his or her senator was forged during the Natasha matter.
“It was debated on the floor of the senate openly at the plenary in the full glare of every Nigerian and even the international audience, and so nothing to hide.
“All Nigerians knew where we stood then on the issue of Natasha… that she ran foul of the senate’s orders. And we are orderly because we are bounded by orders of the senate.”
On the Independence of the senators, he said: “Nobody will say that he or she was coerced or somebody’s signature was forged; that has never happened in the senate and it cannot happen. It has never happened.
“Senators are independent-minded people. We are mature men and women. And if you have any infraction against anybody, that person can, without any advocate from anywhere, that person will show it.
“So there’s nothing like that. I’m just hearing it for the first time. That’s very strange.”

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has insisted that the Accord in the state will support President Bola Tinubu in 2027 because he is a son of Osun State.
Governor Adeleke made this known during the official launch of his re-election campaign and welcoming of over 10,000 defectors from the APC, ADC and other political parties as well as endorsement ceremony of over 200 groups/unions/associations at the Freedom Park, Osogbo on Tuesday.
DAILY POST reports that three former commissioners, a special adviser and other chieftains of the APC in Osun State were among individuals that defected to the Accord on Tuesday.
Prominent among the defectors are former commissioners for Youths and Sporty, Yemi Lawal, Political Affairs, Taiwo Akeju, Education Folorunso Oladoyin Bamisayemi, Special Adviser, Jamiu Olawumi, other special advisers and former House of Assembly members
Governor Adeleke while welcoming the decampees said the Accord is their party and also assured the new party members that they will win the governorship election on August 15.
He also outlined that his administration has uplifted the economy of the state according to the Debt Management Office and revealed that his campaign will be hinged on a five point agenda
He maintained that the party rejected violent adding that, “Osun must not go back to the dark age. Osun is the cradle of the Yoruba nation and by the grace of God tranquility must prevail.
“We reject violence. Go out and campaign for the party. Accord will be on the ballot. Be rest assured that we will vote and our votes will count on August 15.”
