Guber Poll: Gov Oyebanji thanks Ekiti people, lauds peaceful conduct
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji has expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their overwhelming support, which culminated in his re-election in the June 20 governorship poll.
Governor Oyebanji said he remains deeply appreciative of Ekitikete for standing united in giving him a renewed four-year mandate and for ensuring that the election was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner across all the 16 local government areas of the state.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, the governor said he is indebted to the people not only for the historic re-election but also for setting what he described as a benchmark for peaceful elections in the country.
The governor noted that Saturday’s election was peaceful because of the exemplary conduct of the people before, during, and after the electioneering period, which lasted about three months. He added that commendation must go to leaders and stakeholders across all segments of society for their roles in sustaining peace.
Governor Oyebanji also invited the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and African Democratic Party, ADC, Dr Wole Oluyede and Ambassador Dare Bejide, respectively, to join hands with him in the task of building a more prosperous Ekiti State.
Parts of the statement read, “ I owe all Ekiti sons and daughters, at home and in the diaspora, a debt of gratitude for their overwhelming support and for the fresh mandate to serve for another four years. This is truly humbling, and I do not take the trust for granted.
“Very importantly, I thank Ekitikete for their deliberate commitment to ensuring a peaceful election, devoid of violence or bloodshed, thereby setting a new standard for electoral conduct.
“Our profound appreciation goes to our traditional rulers for promoting peace in their domains, as well as to leaders of political parties and religious bodies for preaching and exemplifying peaceful coexistence.
“We also extend our sincere gratitude to former Governors of the state—Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Chief Ayodele Fayose, Engr. Segun Oni, and Dr. Kayode Fayemi—for their support for the administration and commitment to the unity and progress of Ekiti State.
“Special thanks to serving and former members of the National and State Assemblies, members of the State Executive Council, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), and the Campaign Council led by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.
“We commend the heads and personnel of all security agencies, including the Army, Police, DSS, and other paramilitary bodies, for their professionalism and for the effective inter- agency collaboration in ensuring peace before, during, and after the election.
“We are equally grateful to members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for their dedication and magnanimity in victory, as well as to leaders of labour unions, workers, teachers, local government employees, the media, youth and students’ bodies, artisans, market women, transport unions, and commercial motorcyclists.”
Governor Oyebanji also noted the significant improvement in the conduct of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, describing it as a marked advancement over previous exercises in the state. He attributed this to the dedication of INEC staff and the impact of the new Electoral Act signed into law by President Bola AmTinubu.
The governor reiterated his commitment to working harder and more efficiently to deliver greater dividends of democracy in his second term. He also expressed gratitude to God for the successes recorded by his administration over the past three years and eight months.

Bauchi can boost revenue by taxing social media firms – APM governorship candidate
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Movement (APM) in Bauchi State, Dr Yakubu Adamu, has said the state can increase its internally generated revenue by tapping into its large base of social media users.
Speaking in an interview with Radio France Internationale (RFI) Hausa, Adamu argued that Bauchi should receive a share of the revenue generated by major social media companies.
“Considering the large number of people using social media in this state, we should be receiving a share of the revenue, but we have never received even a kobo from YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and other modern platforms. We want to recover these funds from these companies so that our revenue can increase,” he said.
The APM candidate also stressed that attracting investors requires the government to create a business-friendly environment.
“A company will not come unless you provide opportunities or create a favourable environment for it. For example, how will you make taxes easier for investors? How will you provide land for them to operate? How will you simplify regulations and improve security so that when they come, they will feel confident and comfortable?” he said.
Adamu further recalled that Bauchi State had previously hosted an investment summit attended by both local and foreign investors, during which investment commitments worth nearly $6 billion were secured.

ADC crisis: Court adjourns Nafiu Bala’s suit against David Mark until June 30
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday adjourned a suit filed by Mr Nafiu-Bala Gombe, seeking to stop David Mark and others from parading themselves as leaders of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, until June 30.
The matter, which was fixed for hearing of all pending applications, could not proceed.
Earlier when the matter was called, all the lawyers to the parties were present except Mr Suleiman Usman, SAN, counsel for Mark.
With the agreement of counsel, Justice Peter Lifu stood down the matter for 15 minutes to give Usman the opportunity to also be heard, and another case was called pending the senior lawyer’s arrival.
However, after the case ended, Justice Lifu stood down proceedings and rose.
Lawyers were then asked to take another date after waiting for some minutes.
Justice Lifu had, on June 16, fixed Tuesday for hearing of all the pending applications after he dismissed the application seeking his recusal from the case.
The judge, who held that the two motions filed by ADC and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola (1st and 3rd defendants) lacked merit, awarded a fine of N1 million each against ADC and Aregbesola, National Secretary of the party, in favour of Gombe.
ADC and Aregbesola had, in separate motions, asked Justice Lifu to withdraw from the suit filed by Gombe, citing alleged bias.
Gombe, in the suit, is seeking an order restraining Mark, Aregbesola and members of their interim National Working Committee, NWC, from parading themselves as the party’s leaders.
He had argued that the emergence of Mark, Aregbesola and other interim NWC members breached the provisions of the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
Gombe had sued ADC, Mark, Aregbesola, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and Ralph Nwosu as 1st to 5th defendants respectively in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025.
Nwosu was the former ADC National Chairman who stepped down for the David Mark-led Interim National Working Committee.
