Suspected motorcycle snatchers kill 27-year-old rider in Plateau
A 27-year-old commercial motorcyclist has been killed by suspected motorcycle snatchers in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, with his motorcycle stolen after the attack.
The incident was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on X on Wednesday.
According to the post, troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) recovered the victim’s body after responding to a report of a corpse discovered between Angwan Baraya and Sagani villages in Mangu.
Security sources said troops from Sector 8, Sub-Sector 81, Gyambwas, received the report at about 6:15 am on June 30 and immediately moved to the area alongside police officers from the Keystone Gindiri Division.
“On arrival, the security personnel found the body of the victim with multiple machete wounds.
“A search of the area led to the recovery of a mobile phone believed to belong to the deceased,” Makama added.
“Using the phone, security operatives contacted the victim’s father, Mr. Muhammadu Sheko, who later identified the deceased as Haruna Muhammadu, a 27-year-old resident of Changal Village in Mangu Local Government Area.”
“The deceased was a commercial motorcyclist who had recently purchased a new motorcycle before he was allegedly attacked and killed by suspected motorcycle snatchers, who made away with the motorcycle,” the source said.
Police officers from the Keystone Gindiri Division evacuated the body and released it to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Security agencies have launched efforts to identify and arrest those behind the killing and theft.
Authorities also appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible information that could help security agencies tackle violent crime and improve safety in the area.

Bandits sighted moving towards Niger community after clash
Groups of suspected bandits have reportedly been seen moving through the Mailaka axis towards Kotonkoro in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State after an earlier clash in the area.
According to security analyst Bakatsine on X, the movement followed an attack on the farm of the Mariga LGA vigilante leader, Alhaji Hashimu Kotonkoro, on the outskirts of Kotonkoro.
Bakatsine said, “Fresh groups of bandits have been sighted moving through the Mailaka axis toward Kotonkoro in Mariga LGA of Niger State.”
The post added, “Residents along the route are urged to remain vigilant.”
According Bakatsine, “Two people were shot and wounded during the fighting and are currently receiving medical treatment, while several others were abducted and taken into the surrounding forest.”
The incident has not yet been officially confirmed by the authorities.

Vehicle carrying 30 bags of flour razed in Ibadan
A vehicle carrying 30 bags of rice has been razed in Ibadan.
DAILY POST gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday.
The bus caught fire along the parliament road, Agodi in Ibadan, Oyo State.
It was learnt that the vehicle, a Mitsubishi Pickup with registration number SMK636YJ, LAGOS, loaded with 30 bags of flour caught fire while on motion.
Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande confirmed the incident.
He said that men of the agency were immediately mobilised to the scene when the emergency call was received.
Akinwande added that no casualty was recorded and that the cause of the fire was as a result of overheated engine.
He said “Upon arrival, we met A Mitsubishi Pickup with red number SMK636YJ (LAGOS) loaded with 30 bags of flour caught fire while on motion.
“The fire crew quickly swung into action by running a length of hose to put out the fire”.

Kidnapped soldier escapes from captivity in Benue
A Nigerian soldier who was abducted by suspected kidnappers has escaped from captivity and safely reached a military facility in Makurdi, Benue State.
This was made known in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region.
Zagazola said the soldier, attached to the 130 Battalion (Main), Baga, was abducted on June 27 while travelling on welfare pass to the Rear location of the battalion in Ogoja, Cross River State.
He revealed that at about 11:53 a.m. on June 30, intelligence from the 401 Intelligence Cell in Makurdi confirmed that the soldier had escaped from his captors and made his way to the 72 Special Forces Battalion in Makurdi.
According to him, the circumstances surrounding his escape were not immediately disclosed.
The security expert said military authorities are making arrangements to move the soldier to the 130 Battalion (Rear) in Ogoja for debriefing, medical evaluation and other administrative procedures.
“Investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances of the abduction and identify those responsible,” he said.
