APC holding El-Rufa’i because of 2027 elections – Bolaji Abdullahi
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately keeping former Kaduna State governor? Nasir El-Rufai in detention to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Channels Television on Thursday, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi said the party supports the prosecution of anyone with a genuine case to answer.
However, he argued that keeping El-Rufai in custody over bailable offences and setting what he described as difficult bail conditions raised concerns.
“ADC is not opposed to anybody who has a legitimate case to answer, from being prosecuted,” Abdullahi said.
He added, “the thinking within the ADC is that the APC government has concluded that they will not release Malam Nasir El-Rufai until after the elections.”
Abdullahi claimed the government believed a free El-Rufai would strengthen the opposition and increase pressure on the ruling party before the 2027 polls.
He also expressed concern over El-Rufai’s health, saying the former governor needed proper medical care. Abdullahi said, “If anything happens to Malam Nasir El-Rufai in detention, President Bola Tinubu will be held personally responsible.”
The ADC spokesman further alleged that the government was more focused on the 2027 elections than addressing Nigeria’s challenges, describing the Renewed Hope Agenda as “just a slogan that does not mean anything.”
El-Rufai is currently facing charges of alleged financial misconduct during his time as Kaduna State governor in a case filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). He is also standing trial in a separate alleged wire-tapping case filed by the Department of State Services (DSS).

2027: Atiku, ADC giving Tinubu sleepless nights – Tambuwal
Former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has hinted that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his party are giving President Bola Tinubu sleepless nights.
Tambuwal claimed that Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress have been scheming against the ADC but God has been frustrating their plans.
He spoke while welcoming the former Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Isa Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni, into the ADC after he resigned from the APC, where he described Tinubu as an outgoing president.
Tambuwal said: “President Bola Tinubu, who is leaving office, has been staying up late because of the ADC. Everywhere he turns, he sees Atiku Abubakar.
“They have kept trying to stop the ADC from being made public, but God has prevented those plans from working.”
He said the federal government hasn’t done enough to deal with the unsafe situation and other problems the country is facing.
Tambuwal said that many politicians didn’t want to join the ADC because they were worried about the pressure of leaving the ruling party.
“Most politicians who leave the ruling APC join other political parties instead of joining the ADC.
“Only people who care about the country’s interests, not their own, will join the ADC,” he said.

Zazzau Emir calls for electronic voting in Nigeria
The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, has urged Nigeria to adopt electronic voting machines for all elections, saying technology will make the electoral process more transparent, credible and efficient.
He made the call on Thursday in Kaduna during the launch of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) Five-Year Strategic Plan (2026–2030).
The traditional ruler said Nigeria should move away from manual voting.
“I am still one of those Nigerians that believe Nigeria needs to move forward. As against manual election, electronic voting machine should be used in every election in Nigeria.”
Bamalli, who previously served as a commissioner at KAD-SIECOM, said his support for electronic voting is based on experience.
He said during his study visits to China, Brazil and the United States, he observed how electronic voting systems work.
According to him, the Kaduna delegation visited Shenzhen in China, where the machines were produced, before watching elections conducted with the technology in Brazil and the US.
He also said Kaduna successfully used electronic voting machines during his time at the commission, allowing voting and result collation to be completed within a few hours.
The emir explained that the system helps prevent manipulation because votes are stored electronically at the commission’s headquarters while printed results are immediately given to party agents at polling units.
“So I’m still appealing that SIECOM should look at that. It’s a colossal investment, and should champion it.”
Speaking at the event, KAD-SIECOM Chairman Hajara Mohammed said the commission’s new five-year strategic plan was intended to improve its performance, strengthen public confidence and ensure credible elections.
She said the plan addresses key issues affecting election management, including voter apathy, logistics, legal reforms and efforts to build greater trust in the electoral process.

ADC’ll hold you responsible if anything happens to El-Rufai – Abdullahi to Tinubu
The Africa Democratic Congress, ADC, has vowed to hold President Bola Tinubu personally accountable if anything happens to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai while he is in custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the remark while insisting that El-Rufai is being held in detention as a political prisoner.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday night, the ADC spokesman said El-Rufai has a medical issue that needs to be properly addressed by a doctor.
He said, “Now, having said that, this person has a medical condition. You may not intend it. But if you don’t let this person be, if you don’t let Malam Nasir El-Rufai get the medical help he needed, then you are not helping him.
“According to the report we received from his family, he was at the National Hospital a few days ago, and the hospital told them he should be kept under watch because his health was getting worse.
“We have said it, and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, our presidential candidate, has also said it. If something happens to Malam Nasir El-Rufai while he is in custody, President Bola Tinubu will be personally accountable because the responsibility ultimately falls on him.
“We are saying that there is a political prisoner in Nigeria right now, and his name is Malam Nasir El-Rufai.”
