Arsenal’s Dream XI With Two New Signings
Arsenal are heading into the upcoming Premier League season as champions for the first time in 22 years, but Mikel Arteta isn’t going to rest now.
Having fallen to PSG on penalties in the Champions League final, the Gunners’ priority this summer is closing the gap on Europe’s elite, and that means reinforcing a squad that has already been crowned as the best in England.
With the left wing and the midfield identified as areas for investment, here’s what Arsenal’s best possible starting XI could look like if their top transfer targets arrive at the Emirates Stadium.
Goalkeeper
David Raya
David Raya remains an easy pick between the sticks. The Spaniard has been one of the signings of the Arteta era, with his sharp reflexes and his composed distribution making him an extra outfielder during build-up.
Although his signing looked strange at the time, considering Aaron Ramsdale’s impressive season, the former Brentford keeper has excelled in his position.
The Gunners may be wanting a new back-up keeper, with Illan Meslier set to complete a move to north London, but Raya has that number one position locked down.
Defence
Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie
The two central defenders pick themselves, with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes continuing to form one of the most reliable partnerships in Europe. Both were instrumental in the title charge, and there is no desire at the club to break up a pairing that reads the game so well together.
Jurrien Timber has been immense at right-back, and you would assume he gets the nod for his versatility and progressive passing, especially when he gives Arsenal an extra body in midfield by tucking inside. Piero Hincapie also had a strong first season at the Emirates, and his loan move has now been made permanent after a clause was activated following the Ecuadorian defender making 39 appearances. He looks set to be a mainstay for many years.
It is also worth noting the depth Arsenal have in this department, leaving no real need to use their budget in this area. With players like Ricardo Califiori, Ben White, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Cristhian Mosquera all sat on the bench, the Gunners have real depth that should be enough for them to continue their progression.

Midfield
Rice, Guimaraes, Odegaard
This is the area where there are rumours of Arsenal wanting to strengthen. If the rumours are true, then they could have a midfield that will dominate for years to come.
Declan Rice remains the engine of the side, a box-to-box presence who still stepped up in some big moments to provide goals and assists. However, he played a lot of minutes last season, and Arteta could do with bringing in a backup to give Rice a rest when possible.
The North London side did have rumoured interest in Italian Sandro Tonali, but he has since made a £100million move to rivals Tottenham, and Arsenal look to have shifted their focus to a different Newcastle midfielder in Bruno Guimaraes. He has been linked with a move to the Emirates, and his blend of ball-carrying, tackling and composure in possession would slot seamlessly into the midfield alongside Rice.
Martin Zubimendi joined last season and had an underrated season and could look to push for a more prominent starting role in the side, but he faces a tough challenge against Rice and potentially Guimaraes.
Martin Odegaard has been linked with a move away from Arsenal, with rumoured interest from Turkish side Galatasaray, but the Norwegian doesn’t look to be in a rush to leave the Emirates.
Attack
Saka, Gyokeres, Rogers
When fit, Bukayo Saka is a guaranteed starter for Mikel Arteta. He had a tough, injury-ridden season last year, but he will be a certain figure if he can stay sharp. Viktor Gyokeres enjoyed an outstanding debut season following his transfer from Sporting Lisbon, offering the kind of physical, direct centre-forward presence Arsenal had lacked for years, and there isn’t any reason to think he won’t be leading the line once again this season.
The most eye-catching addition would come on the left, where Arsenal have made Morgan Rogers their priority target. The Aston Villa forward has been reportedly valued at around £130million and has attracted interest from a host of major clubs, but Arsenal are serious contenders given Villa’s need to balance the books this summer.
Rogers’ ability to drift inside, combine centrally and carry the ball through the thirds would give Arteta an upgrade on the left wing, especially with uncertainty around Gabriel Martinelli’s future as he enters the final year of his contract. Should Rogers arrive, he’d complete a front three with balance and unpredictability to trouble any defence in Europe, whilst there would still be strong depth in Eberechi Eze.

Wimbledon: Alexander Zverev’s Grandmother Banned From Entering UK
After defeating homeboy Arthur Fery in the Wimbledon semi-finals, many had questions about Alexander Zverev and his advancement into the final on Sunday, and who would be in attendance supporting him.
After attending the French Open final last month, many assumed that the German’s grandmother would be once again making an appearance in the crowd to support her grandson’s great achievements. Many have been left disappointed, though, with Zverev having to make do without his grandmother watching on this time around.
The No.2 seed put on a dominant display against the Englishman Fery, with the wildcard getting beaten in straight sets on Friday. Jannik Sinner’s win against Novak Djokovic, meanwhile, means that Zverev will be competing against the current Wimbledon champion and No.1 seed.
This isn’t the first time these two have played in a Grand Slam final against each other. In a similar set-up at the Australian Open in 2025, Sinner was once again aiming to defend his title and successfully went on to do so.
According to Zverev, one person who is possibly going to be attending Centre Court tomorrow is the German Chancellor, who no doubt will be rooting for his country’s representative.
Going into the match, the German is looking like the underdog with nine previous face-offs between these two resulting in a victory for Sinner, but with the feeling of now having a Grand Slam title to his name after Paris, there is nothing stopping the German from making it two titles.
Alexander Zverev’s Grandmother Banned From UK
Zverev has said that, with the German Chancellor being present, he hopes that a few strings can be pulled that will result in his grandmother being able to attend the event. Unfortunately, due to not having a visa and being a Russian passport holder, it is not looking entirely promising that she will get to attend.
Zverev explained that once her 90 days were up, she could no longer be there to watch his Wimbledon performance and, with time being of the essence, getting a visa this late in the game does not seem likely.
With Russian citizens now facing longer background checks when applying for visas, the possibility of getting one will likely take several weeks rather than a couple of days.
Despite his grandmother not being in attendance, a win for Zverev would still be an incredible day for the German; back-to-back Grand Slams and winning what many would call the most prestigious one of them all. The match tomorrow will, we’re sure, have many, whether they are there in person or watching on the TV at home, on the edge of their seats.

Diego Maradona Claimed James Rodriguez Deserved 2014 World Cup Golden Ball
Lionel Messi is almost unanimously viewed as the greatest footballer in history, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t had low points in his career.
While it’s harsh to suggest reaching a World Cup final is a failure, there were always doubts surrounding Messi’s ability to get his country over the line on the biggest stage. That was again the case in 2014, when his side were beaten by Germany in the final.
He’s obviously put those doubts to bed in recent years with two Copa America wins and a World Cup triumph. But 12 years ago, his perception in international football was completely different. Even Diego Maradona questioned Messi after the 2014 World Cup.
Diego Maradona: Lionel Messi Golden Ball ‘Unfair’
Messi found the back of the net four times in the Brazil-hosted competition, but they were all scored in the group stage. That just played into the narrative that he hadn’t delivered in key moments for his country to that point. His quiet display in the final didn’t do much to help that.
However, many were left scratching their heads when a glum Messi, 27 at the time, stepped up to collect the Golden Ball award. The FIFA-awarded honour is given to the best player of the tournament, but few believed Messi fit that criteria that year.
Maradona publicly called out the decision, calling it a ‘marketing plan’ to give his compatriot the individual accolade. The iconic Argentine said:
“I would give heaven and earth to Leo, but when marketing people want him to win something he didn’t (deserve to) win, it is unfair.
“I could see that he didn’t want to go up and collect it (the award).”
Argentina manager at the time, Alejandro Sabella, didn’t agree with that assessment and defended Messi’s performances throughout the tournament.
“He deserves it because he played an extraordinary World Cup. He was a fundamental factor in the team making it to the final, along with everything done by his other teammates,” the Argentina boss stated.
“The World Cup is a highly demanding tournament and as for his reputation, he is in that pantheon among the greats. But he was there before – he has been there for quite some time.”
Maradona Felt World Cup Star Was More Deserving
Maradona had managed Messi and Argentina at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. But he went against his compatriot when naming his pick for the Golden Ball in 2014.
The other hot contenders were Germany’s Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos, Mats Hummels and Philipp Lahm, as well as Messi’s teammates Javier Mascherano and Angel Di Maria.
But Maradona believed James Rodriguez of Colombia was the standout player at the tournament. Winning the Golden Boot that year with six goals, Rodriguez earned a blockbuster move to Spanish giants Real Madrid off the back of his breakout performance on the world stage.

Charlotte Flair Suffers Two Wardrobe Malfunctions on Live Television
WWE icon Charlotte Flair suffered a couple of unfortunate wardrobe malfunctions recently, one taking place during Saturday Night’s Main Event, and then another taking place on Friday Night SmackDown.
The 14-time Women’s World Champion will almost certainly go down as one of the most-decorated WWE Superstars of all time. The daughter of “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair, her journey to the top was difficult, as it was hard to carve her own way and get out of the shadow of her father. Through hard work and clever posturing, though, she has managed to build her own legacy, one that will last a long time after she retires from the ring.
One way that she managed this was through her long-established rivalry with fellow wrestler Becky Lynch, with whom she shared the ring many times. This relationship was even the subject of an episode of WWE Rivals, a show that celebrates some of the biggest rivalries the organisation has ever seen.
Among her accolades is the honour of being the main event of WrestleMania 35, alongside rival Lynch and former UFC champion Ronda Rousey. This was the first time the huge event in the organisation’s calendar had ever been headlined by women.
Flair was also one of the first women to ever main-event a pay-per-view, taking down Sasha Banks in a Hell in the Cell match that will be remembered by fans for time to come. She took the WWE world by storm, and her legacy will be remembered for not just her incredible wins, but for the sheer volume of her success: she went undefeated in 16 straight pay-per-view matches. This dominance is what earned her the nickname ‘The Queen.’
The latest development in Flair’s career has been her partnership with Alexa Bliss. They became a tag team after a history of rivalry in their own right, and have seen huge success in the partnership. It was with Bliss that Flair recently competed on SmackDown. The two faced B-Fab and Michin.
Charlotte Flair’s Awkward Wardrobe Malfunctions
During the match, Charlotte Flair was rolled up for a pin attempt by B-Fab. Her tights were briefly accidentally pulled, resulting in the wardrobe malfunction mentioned. The same thing happened to her during Saturday Night’s Main event as well, which has led to Flair suggesting that she needs to rethink her choice of wrestling attire.
Despite this, Flair and Bliss managed to secure the win and defeat Michin and B-Fab.
