West Ham Ready to Rival Lampard for ‘Influential’ World Cup Star Berg

Published

West Ham and Coventry City are said to be battling for a World Cup star who recently impressed against England. The two English clubs went in opposite directions this summer, with Coventry securing their long-awaited return to the Premier League, while West Ham dropped out of the top flight for the first time in 15 years.

Frank Lampard is currently preparing his side for a Premier League season, well aware of the squad strengthening he will have to do to stand a chance of staying up, given the clear void between the top two divisions. Meanwhile, the Hammers will already be confident of securing promotion back to the top flight, armed with a solid budget, but they have lost Mateus Fernandes this season, and more important players are likely to depart before the summer is up.

The World Cup gives players a unique chance to impress on the world stage, especially those who don’t play in prominent domestic leagues, and many players have taken that opportunity this summer. The latest came in the quarter-final between England and Norway, which for most neutrals, was a tough watch.

Perhaps largely down to the extreme heat and humidity, the game was devoid of any real quality, with many of the top stars like Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and others simply failing to perform in the heat. But one player who did have a huge footprint on the game was Norway midfielder Patrick Berg. Berg was everywhere for Norway, and had they won the game, he would have had plenty of credit for it.

The busy midfielder seemed to be involved in almost everything Norway did, and despite his smaller stature, he wasn’t afraid to get stuck in, which was always going to be required in such a close game between two typically physical teams.

Berg impressed throughout the World Cup, and it seems he has now done enough to attract interest from England in the form of West Ham and Coventry.

According to TeamTalk, Berg is considering leaving Bodo/Glimt to move abroad after an impressive season all-round, including in the Champions League, and the two clubs mentioned are among a number of English teams showing interest. Premier League clubs Hull City and Ipswich Town are also said to be keeping an eye.

It’s claimed Berg is willing to explore the possible opportunities this summer, now 28 years of age, and now would be the time to cash in after that impressive World Cup effort which has seen him described as one of Norway’s ‘most influential’ players.

Concerning Jude Bellingham Footage Sparks England Injury Fears

The star of the show for England as they beat Norway 2-1 to make the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup was very much Jude Bellingham. However, there are now fears of a possible injury ahead of the Three Lions’ next round meeting with Argentina.

The Real Madrid midfielder scored twice as Thomas Tuchel’s men came from behind to beat Norway in the quarters. Bellingham showed quality and composure as he ran through on goal to level the scores in injury time of the first-half (albeit in controversial fashion after the ball appeared to hit a TV wire). He then popped up with the winner in extra-time, finishing from close range after Morgan Rogers’ shot was parried into danger.

Bellingham has scored six goals in total this summer, and will be key if England can go all the way. It will concern fans then to learn that he may have an injury ahead of the semi-final vs Argentina.

Argentina are the reigning world champions having won in 2022, and will be desperate to make their second successive final. Lionel Messi’s side have looked somewhat unconving at times this summer, but there is also an air of inevabitly about the team.

They were two goals down against Egypt in the Last 16 before pulling off a spectacular and controversial comeback to win the game 3-2. Lionel Scaloni’s men then struggled to get across the line against 10-man Switzerland but eventually blew them away to win 3-1 in extra time.

While all the English focus will be on how to stop Messi, their opponents will have certainly identified Bellingham as a big problem to contend with themselves. The midfielder has now scored two goals in each of the last two knockout games, while also bagging twice in the group stages against Croatia and Panama.

Piers Morgan has summed up a certain confidence in the player from some sections of the English fanbase, remarking: “All this fearful talk of ‘how will England stop Messi’ is ludicrous. The much more pertinent question is how will Argentina stop Bellingham? He’s the real superstar of this World Cup.”

However, England could be without their key man against Argentina.

Bellingham’s Shoulder Injury Could Lead to World Cup Problems

In footage shared by Spanish outlet Diario AS, Bellingham was seen struggling with a shoulder injury in the aftermath of the win against Norway. Another photo also appears to show him holding his upper arm during the game while in conversation with Tuchel.

In light of the images, TyC Sports have reported that the 23-year-old is being closely monitored by the Three Lions’ medical staff ahead of the tie with Argentina. On top of that, it has been alleged that he could be forced to wear a bandage as he battles for a place in the World Cup final.

Other reports claim that Bellingham picked up the problem in a collision with a Norwegian defender. He was also spotted speaking with England physio Steve Kemp during a cooling break and remained in discomfort for the rest of the win against Norway.

It will not help that, Bellingham has had shoulder issues before, and needed surgery to solve the problems which ruled him out for the start of the 2025/26 season. After that procedure, he said: “I’ve reached the point where the pain isn’t so bad. I was fed up with playing in a sling.

“I’m losing a lot of weight from sweating so much. I’ve been waiting a while and my patience is running out, but the physios and doctors have been incredible and I want to feel free.”

That injury forced him to play through 18 months of pain, having initially dislocated his shoulder during a La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano.

England vs Argentina Threatened By Thunderstorms

A US weather update has emerged, revealing the chances of England vs Argentina’s World Cup semi-final being delayed in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday night. The Three Lions are through to the final four for just the fourth time in their history after Jude Bellingham scored a brace to help his side come from behind and beat Norway 2-1 at the weekend.

Now, under Thomas Tuchel’s tenacious leadership, they face their biggest obstacle yet. Up against age-old rivals Argentina, England have never beaten a side ranked inside the top four of the FIFA Men’s World Rankings at a major international tournament. They will have to change that if they are to end a 60-year wait to bring football home.

On Wednesday night, they will take on a side still inspired by Lionel Messi, widely regarded as the greatest footballer of all time, who helped supercharge the Argentina side that won a third World Cup title in Qatar four years ago. But could the weather also play a role in the semi-final, as it did in Mexico City a couple of rounds earlier?

According to The Sun, the weather forecast for Atlanta on Wednesday predicts a 70% chance of light rain with a maximum temperature of 29°C. A humidity level of 77% is forecast, and there’ll be barely any breeze to help things feel cooler, with predictions of a top wind-speed of just 3mph.

On Monday evening, two days out from the game, the city is likely to be hit with heavy thunder and lightning. There is a risk of flooding and temperatures, once more, are going to be in the 30s during this spell, while the threat of more storms remains on Tuesday with “slow-moving downpours” predicted.

This could threaten Tuchel’s preparation for the match – but, fortunately, the action itself should be safe to continue for two key reasons heading into the crunch showdown.

Not only does the forecast for storms drop off around 36 hours before kick off (8pm UK time, 5pm for locals), but there is also a roof at the stadium. England have already played in air-conditioned Atlanta during their last-32 win over DR Congo. Argentina were there for the last-16 comeback against Egypt.

But both sides have had to be flexible on matchdays already this tournament. The reigning champions’ victory over Cape Verde in the knockouts was put at risk by storms. Whereas England had their historic Mexico tie delayed by an hour due to wild conditions around the Azteca Stadium.

The weekend also brought worries that England’s Norway match would be set back as well due to stormy weather. Fortunately, despite the American summer causing some issues at the World Cup, it has mostly run on time, and the only thing that is likely to stop this semi from starting as scheduled is if there are problems with either team getting to the ground.
