The family of a 42-year-old Islamic teacher who was allegedly stabbed to death by suspected Sara-Suka gang members in Bauchi State has demanded justice, lamenting that the suspected killers remain at large one week after the incident.

Speaking with journalists, the deceased’s sister, Jamila Dauda, said no arrests had been made despite the suspects allegedly being well known in the Karofi Madaki community.

She said the family was beginning to lose confidence in the justice system because those allegedly responsible for the killing had not been apprehended.

According to Jamila, her brother was ambushed and stabbed three times while returning home after a dispute linked to political campaign posters pasted on a family property.

She alleged that the attack followed weeks of threats after the deceased confronted some youths who had allegedly pasted campaign posters on the family building without the consent of all family members.

“One of the youths openly threatened to kill him during the disagreement,” she said, adding that her brother died before reaching the hospital despite efforts to save his life.

“The killers of my brother are still walking freely. We need justice. If they are arrested and prosecuted, it will prevent such incidents from happening again. If there is no justice, these boys will continue to believe they can take lives without consequences,” she said.

Jamila described the deceased as the family’s breadwinner and a respected Islamic teacher who dedicated his life to mentoring young people.

She said he was survived by his wife, Umaimatu, and five children.

The bereaved family appealed to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and the Commissioner of Police to ensure that the suspects are arrested and prosecuted, insisting that justice would also serve as a deterrent against violent crimes allegedly committed by Sara-Suka gangs in the state.

When contacted, the command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed that the police had intensified efforts to arrest the two principal suspects.

“We have been trailing them from one place to another. Anywhere we receive credible information, we follow it up. We will not relent until we arrest them,” he said.

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Saminu Ibrahim in connection with the alleged murder of his friend following a violent altercation in Ringim Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesman, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Dutse.

He said, the arrest was part of a series of security breakthroughs recorded by the command in its ongoing efforts to maintain law and order across Jigawa.

According to the statement, the command received a report at about 10:30 a.m. on Monday regarding a culpable homicide incident that occurred at Dabigel Village in Ringim LGA.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred when a misunderstanding between two 20-year-old youths escalated into violence, during which one of them allegedly stabbed the other in the chest with a sharp metal object, locally known as Danbuda.

The victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The police said operatives swiftly arrested the suspect identified as Saminu Ibrahim of Gidan Gona Village, Ringim LGA, in connection with the incident.

SP Shiisu said the case was under investigation and that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation.

He added that upon completion of the investigation, the suspect would be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction to face prosecution.

Two persons have been confirmed dead following a flood incident that struck Malari, Pompomari and surrounding communities in Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State after a heavy rainfall on Sunday.

This was contained in a Flash Flood Incident Report issued by the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA.

According to the report, the victims have been identified as Isa Haruna, 38, a security personnel attached to Mallam Matari, and Abba Kyari, 18, who reportedly drowned in the Pompomari area.

The Yobe SEMA Search and Rescue Team, in collaboration with the State Fire Service, Damaturu, responded to the incident.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the victims were confirmed dead and their bodies were conveyed to the mortuary at the General Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu,” the report read.

Following the incident, the State Emergency Management Agency has urged the public, particularly parents and guardians, to closely supervise children as schools are currently on vacation.

The agency also listed six precautionary measures including avoiding flooded roads and waterways, keeping children away from rivers and culverts and reporting emergencies to SEMA,

Others are clearing blocked drainages, staying alert to weather warnings, and moving to higher ground during floods while avoiding contact with potentially contaminated water.

Authorities are yet to give an estimate of property damage caused by the flood in the affected areas.
