Newcastle United are ‘working on’ a deal to sign a replacement for Arsenal-bound Bruno Guimaraes, with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall a target, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Guimaraes is on the verge of completing his move to the Premier League champions after a fee was agreed with Newcastle worth around £75m, with the Brazil international given permission to travel for a medical.
The 28-year-old is the second key Magpies midfielder to leave this summer after Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham, and new manager Matthias Jaissle will be looking for new additions to strengthen the club’s engine room ahead of the new season kicking off in a fortnight’s time.
The Tyneside outfit have signed Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba for the central midfield area already, but they are likely to sign another to bolster a position that has been severely weakened in recent weeks.

Felix Nmecha
Victor Froholdt
None of these would arrive with any Premier League experience however, just like Steur and Bamba.
Former boss Eddie Howe had identified Bergvall, who does have English top flight know-how, as a target, with Romano now providing the latest on that situation.
Romano: Lucas Bergvall Could be Newcastle Option

Bergvall is a player in demand among other Premier League clubs this summer after making it clear that he is open to a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, following the additions of Tonali and Mateus Fernandes in midfield.
Newcastle are one of the clubs keen on the Sweden international, who has been labelled as ‘incredible’ by Ange Postecoglou, dating back to Howe’s reign, and now they are going to decide whether he remains a player they want to make a formal move for under new boss Jaissle.

Romano issued the latest update on Newcastle’s search for a Guimaraes replacement on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast on Thursday.
He said: “Now the conversation is ongoing with the coach Matthias Jaissle. One of the players they appreciated, for example, is Lucas Bergvall. They were looking at him because he might leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
He’s a player who was already approved by Eddie Howe. Let’s see now with the new coach, Matthias Jaissle. Over the next two to three days, they will have more meetings and decide which kind of player they want to add to their squad.
“Bergvall could be an option, not the only one, but I’m sure Newcastle will do something in that position because obviously they lost Bruno and they need a top midfielder, so they are working on that for sure.”
Newcastle Also Looking at Attacking Options

Newcastle’s search for new players isn’t solely focused on central midfield either, with links continuing with attack-minded players too.
The Magpies scored 53 Premier League goals last season and will know that if they want to push up the table again, that number will likely need to go up.
The club have signed Bazoumana Toure to replace the outgoing Anthony Gordon, but more new faces may be needed and they are being linked with a move for Stuttgart attacking midfielder Bilal El Khannouss.
The Morocco international has Premier League experience following a previous spell with Leicester City, although other English clubs are also keen.
A controversial claim made by Donald Trump has resurfaced amid accusations of the US President cheating his way to the Bedminster Club Championship.
The 80-year-old’s love for the sport is well-documented, and he opened his first golf course, the Trump International Golf Club, back in 1999. He’s been playing golf since his college days and he’s participated against many famous faces over the years.
Trump recently declared victory at the Bedminster Club Championship and claimed to have won with a score of 70. This was met with accusations that he cheated his way to a 43rd club golf championship win.
When Trump Announced a Hole in One

Trump has continuously boasted about his golfing ability, including back in 2022 when he made a much-debated claim about one of his shots at his West Palm Beach club. He released a lengthy statement to announce that he’d managed a hole-in-one.
The US President wrote: “Many people are asking, so I’ll give it to you now, it is 100 per cent true.”
Trump had been playing with pro golfers Ernie Els, Gene Sauers, Ken Duke and Mike Goodes and he made sure to grab a picture celebrating with them. He didn’t just respond to social media users who hit out at his bragging but he delved into the shot:
“I hit a 5-iron, which sailed magnificently into a rather strong wind, with approximately 5 feet of cut, whereupon it bounced twice and then went clank, into the hole.”
The problem for Trump was that there was no evidence of him making the rare shot, and suspiciously, the only video taken showed him picking the ball up afterward. His former communications director, Taylor Budowich, posted the video on X (formerly Twitter), while Tim Swain posted the picture of the President with the pros and captioned it, “Trump just made a hole-in-one!”
In the video, Trump is seen pointing at the ball in the hole and saying: “Look, it’s there. Let’s get a picture, you don’t see that often.”
Trump turned to the pros for support and said in his statement that “these great tour players noticed it before I did because their eyes are slightly better, but on that one hole only, their swings weren’t.”
The responses were that of bewilderment, as one user pointed out that we don’t get to see the shot. Another had told America to read the statement and ‘appreciate Trump is no longer president.’
Trump Denied Cheating After Two Other Incidents
This is just one of many times Trump has been accused of cheating and his alleged antics even made their way into American sportswriter Bryan Marsal’s 2019 book ‘Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump’.
Marsal claimed that Trump had told him directly that ‘I cheat’ and that ‘I expect you to cheat because we’re going to beat those two guys today.’ He suggested that the President takes this approach because he ‘believes in his heart of hearts that you’re gonna cheat him too.’
Former boxer Oscar De La Hoya also questioned the President’s integrity on the golf course back in 2016. He said he caught him when he allegedly hit the ball in the bushes, but it somehow ended up on the green close to the hole.
Trump denied those claims, insisting that De La Hoya was ‘lying’ while telling the press that he respects the game too much to cheat. A decade later and his sportsmanship has been brought into disrepute yet again.
Son of Scott Steiner and cousin of WWE Superstar Bron Breakker may have just seen his brief NFL career come to an end.
Brock Rechsteiner is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Rechsteiner, who is more famously known as ‘Big Poppa Pump’ Scott Steiner.
Steiner is not the only famous wrestler in the family, with Rechsteiner also being cousins with current WWE Raw Superstar Bron Breakker.
Brock played wide receiver for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks until 2025 and went unselected in the NFL draft, but the Tennessee Titans picked him up as an undrafted free agent. However, he was later invited to the New Orleans Saints’ rookie minicamp, where he signed as an undrafted rookie in May.
Brock Rechsteiner Hit With Shock NFL Suspension
Unfortunately, his chances of making the team’s 53-man roster for the upcoming season took a blow after he received the news that he would be suspended for the first six games of the campaign.
News of his suspension was announced by the league on the personnel notice for Thursday but no reason was given for the suspension.
According to ESPN Senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, Rechsteiner is eligible to participate in all preseason activities, including games, and his suspension will take effect when rosters are reduced to 53 players. Until now, the 23-year-old has been competing for a spot on the Saints’ roster.
If Brock wasn’t already facing a tough battle to make the cut, news of his suspension may well have brought an end to his NFL dream. If that does end up being the case, though, Rechsteiner has a back-up plan.
Banned NFL Hopeful Plans to Join WWE
The 23-year-old has already expressed interest in following in his family’s footsteps and pursuing a career in the WWE later down the line. He and his brother Brandon even signed a WWE Next In Line (NIL) deal in February 2025.
“I want to pursue football as long as I can, play as long as I can, but once I’m done, I’ll get into wrestling, too,” Rechsteiner said of his future plans via WDSU-TV’s Sharief Ishaq.
Pro Football Talk has reported that news of his suspension ‘could mean the end of his NFL journey’ and his wrestling career may now become a reality a lot sooner than he had planned.
If he were to join WWE, Rechsteiner would be following in the footsteps of some very successful family members. His father is a WWE Hall of Famer, performing alongside Brock’s uncle, Rick, as the Steiner Brothers.
His cousin Bron is also enjoying a strong WWE career. He currently reigns as one half of the World Tag Team Champions alongside his Vision stablemate Austin Theory.

Manchester City have rejected a bid of around €45 million for midfielder Rodri from Barcelona, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.
GIVEMESPORT understands that Manchester City want in the region of €75 million in order to sanction an exit for Rodri, who has been a target for both Barcelona and Real Madrid this summer.
Real Madrid have now withdrawn from negotiations due to the fact that Rodri wants to join Barcelona before the end of the window.
Barcelona have already agreed personal terms with Rodri, and it’s now just about the two clubs coming to an agreement in terms of a transfer fee.
The La Liga giants are set to make a new offer and remain optimistic of being able to secure his signature this summer.
