Hectic, eventful, unpredictable. These are just a handful of adjectives that can be used to describe Mario Balotelli’s stint in Manchester. The former Manchester City striker was no stranger to a fascinating story and, luckily for the fans, new information seems to rise to the top every now and again.
Whether it’s a training ground bust-up with a teammate or setting off fireworks in his own home, the Italian enigma has tried it all during his eventful football career. Fines at Premier League level are a staple part of the modern game, with leaked sheets of jaw-dropping financial sanctions revealed over the last few years.

With all that in mind, here’s a look at one of the more bizarre stories to come from Balotelli’s chaotic time in England. Even after his departure from the club, he had still managed to leave a lasting impression on the staff and all those around the club.
What Was Found in Balotelli’s Locker
Former Man City kitman Les Chapman revealed all during a podcast appearance
There was never a dull day in the life of Balotelli. But his fine list is a story of its own. And it’s mind-blowing.
Most recently, ex-City kitman Les Chapman has delved deeper into the Italian’s off-pitch antics on the Ninety Three Twenty Podcast. “I used to do tours of the training ground. And I can remember going in the dressing room with the first tour after Mario had left,” Chapman said.
“And I said to them, ‘This is Mario’s locker’. I opened the door and about 30 parking tickets fell out! And a wage slip. He’d been fined by the club, that month, £100,000.”
What may seem like pocket change for those lucky to live the footballer lifestyle, a six-figure fine is typically unheard of. Now this one was not from a traffic warden, as he was so famously known for, but instead one from the club which we can assume was blatantly ignored by Balotelli.
“He had his car impounded 27 times and owed Manchester City Council 10s of thousands of pounds when he left and I think the club paid it up for him,” Chapman added. Balotelli’s mischievous ways put him in his own bracket, but unfortunately for him, a bracket other managers would stay well away from.
According to The Sun (per the Daily Mail), the former Italy international paid more than £300,000 to the English club in fines and club staff even had to retrieve his car on 27 occasions after it had been impounded as many times. This proves he was no stranger to getting into trouble with his own employers as well as the law outside of the sport.
The Story Behind His Infamous Celebration
Balotelli’s iconic moment came in a 6-1 win over Man United
The Golden Boy winner’s ill-disciplined nature is not exclusive to fines, however, as he raised some eyebrows with a certain goal celebration. One of the most iconic celebrations in Premier League history was unleashed when Balotelli lifted up his shirt in the 2011-12 campaign.
He had just scored the opening goal of an eventual thrashing over their arch-rivals, but Balotelli took the phrase ‘celebrations are in order’ very seriously and very prematurely. “Why always me?” was written on a light blue shirt underneath his City number, and Chapman relived the moment, claiming his shirt-printing duties were stripped after the debacle.
He said: “This particular day Mario took me around and said ‘I want this printed on my shirt, what do you think?’ I said yeah I’ll print it up, but [I told him] you can’t have anything that’s offensive to United fans or anybody really.
“He came out with one or two things and I said “No, Mario” and then he said “What about why always me?” As soon as he said it I thought that’s just about perfect and then I got in trouble after the game. They wouldn’t let me print any more shirts after that game because, instead of just lifting his shirt up to there, he lifted it over his head and got booked so David Platt said ‘message from Mancini, don’t print any more shirts’.”
Not only did he manage to get himself in ample trouble, he managed to get staff members wound up in all the chaos. Oh, Mario.
Balotelli’s Man City Career
He scored 30 goals during his three-season spell
Man City agreed to sign Balotelli from Inter Milan, knowing the reputation of the 19-year-old at the time, after he had fallen out with legendary manager José Mourinho during his time at the San Siro. In 2010 however, there were high hopes that the supreme natural talent of the youngster would outweigh the negatives of his questionable temperament. Having a compatriot as his manager – in the form of Roberto Mancini – didn’t help matters, as the pair even reportedly came to blows on the training ground.
On the pitch, there were glimpses of brilliance at various points. He was not far off registering a goal contribution every two games as Balotelli scored 30 goals and grabbed seven assists from only 80 games. The most famous of those assists came on the final day of the 2011/12 season, laying the ball off to Sergio Aguero to score a dramatic last-gasp winner against QPR to secure the Citizens’ first Premier League trophy.
This ensures that he will forever be etched into the history books of the competition as part of the most dramatic moment the division has ever seen. Despite the fleeting moments of quality, Balotelli ultimately didn’t deliver on the expectations that walked through the door with him as a teenager. AC Milan came calling in 2013 and the former Inter star decided it was time to return to his home country.

Balotelli’s Career After Man City
He hasn’t hit the heights expected of him
Balotelli eventually packed his bags and moved to AC Milan, and you could hear a sigh of relief from Mancini from a mile away. His wild ride at the Etihad was over to the delight of some, but his legacy in sky blue will live on forever.
Premier League fans may have thought they had seen the back of the chaotic Italian forward – with few clubs expected to take a risk on Balotelli – until Liverpool shocked the world and made a move to bring him back to England in 2014. Tasked with replacing the mesmerising Luis Suárez, who had departed Anfield for Barcelona, the striker failed to show his talent on Merseyside.
He only managed to find the net on four occasions from 28 competitive appearances and Jurgen Klopp’s arrival at the club in 2015 all but spelled the end of his second stint in the English top-flight.
Forced to head to France in order to pick up the pieces of a flailing career, Balotelli impressed while representing OGC Nice, scoring 43 goals in just over 70 appearances. This is the highest goal haul he has achieved for any of the number of clubs he has played for.
After struggling for fitness and falling out of favour under Patrick Vieira at Nice, Balotelli had a short spell at Marseille before heading back to Serie A. The former City forward has since continued to be a journeyman as he has moved between Brescia, Monza, FC Sion, Adana Demirspor and Genoa.
Spending the 2024/25 campaign struggling for minutes at Genoa before leaving that summer, it’s safe to say his career hasn’t lived up to the initial hype of a young player who was once nominated for the Ballon d’Or. He’s currently without a club, having last played in December 2024.

Toto Wolff Starting to ‘Question’ George Russell’s Future at Mercedes
We are six races into the 2026 Formula 1 season and the Drivers’ Championship is already starting to take shape, with Mercedes‘ Kimi Antonelli running away with it as things stand after winning five consecutive races.
The young Italian was expected to be the second driver in Toto Wolff’s side, playing co-pilot to the more experienced George Russell, and after the Brit won the opening race Down Under in Australia, that looked like it was going to be the way things panned out.
However, since that Grand Prix, Antonelli has had the upper hand over his teammate, winning in five consecutive races, with his most recent victory coming around the streets of the iconic Monaco.
Elsewhere, the Ferrari duo of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are trying to keep the Mercedes boys on their toes, picking up solid results every race week, it seems, while the big boys of McLaren and Red Bull seemingly fall further and further behind with each passing week.
Towards the bottom of the table, it’s been a nightmare six races for the likes of Aston Martin, Cadillac, and Audi, with the three constructors picking up a measly three points between them.
AI Predicts Final 2026 Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championship Standings
AI has made its prediction after the opening several races of the 2026 season.
Despite having some heavily experienced names in their cars, the likes of Fernando Alonso, Valtteri Bottas, Nico Hulkenberg, Sergio Perez, and Lance Stroll, they simply don’t have the vehicles to match their drivers.
With six races now in the record books, teams are already starting to think about the future and think about whether they have the right drivers in their cockpit, and according to recent reports, one team principal is seriously questioning one of his drivers already.
Questions Arise Over Driver’s Future
The team principal in question is none other than the aforementioned Toto Wolff, and yes, he’s seriously having questions about the future of George Russell.
The Brit currently has 88 points to his name after six races, but that is a far cry from his teammate’s tally of 156, and that has led to question marks over his future with the team.
George Russell’s Mercedes Contract Could Soon Be ‘Void’ After Monaco Grand Prix
It’s going from bad to worse for George Russell at Mercedes right now, with the Monaco Grand Prix not helping his cause.
According to journalist Bianca Garloff, who was reflecting on Wolff’s mindset and Russell’s future during a post-Monaco Grand Prix episode of the F1 Insider podcast, she believes the principal is starting to have questions over his driver pairing.
She said: “Anyone who racks up five wins in a row, whether in a dominant car or not, is simply something special, and George Russell sees that too. He’ll also feel the pressure Mercedes is putting on him.
“There are also those question marks in Toto Wolff’s mind as to whether George Russell is still the right man for the job as co-pilot to the star driver, Antonelli.”
It has already been reported recently that Russell’s contract with Mercedes could soon be ‘void’ due to performance-related clauses in his deal, but what’s potentially more damaging and concerning is the fact that there are also claims suggesting he’s already ‘thrown in the towel‘ and accepted defeat to his lesser-experienced teammate.
Considering a certain Max Verstappen could be available at the end of the current season, Russell is going to have to step things up over the coming months if he wants to remain at Mercedes.

UFC Freedom 250: Updated Weather Forecast
Predicting the weather is all but an impossible task. Sure, we can look at forecasts and look at reports, but no one truly knows what’s going to happen at any given time on any given day.
When you’re hosting an outdoor event, this becomes a problem. Whether it be a family BBQ in your own back garden, or it be a UFC event with millions set to watch around the world.
That’s exactly what Dana White is set to do this weekend as UFC Freedom 250 takes centre stage on the South Lawn of the White House, to help celebrate America’s 250th birthday and also President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.
However, with the Octagon set to be outside, this means the weather is VERY important, and it’s something White has addressed in the past, admitting that should it be storms, it could derail the entire show.
What Dana White Has Said About Weather Issues
Putting on an event outside is difficult for a number of reasons. It takes a mad amount of planning, and even then, things could so easily go wrong.
White has already spoken out about the issues they’ve faced from a logistical standpoint, from insects to lightning, and it’s the latter that has him the most concerned.
‘I Have Fought Both Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje – Here’s Who Wins at UFC Freedom 250’
The main event for UFC Freedom 250 at the White House is set and a mutual opponent has already made his prediction.
He said: “The three big problems, as far as I am seeing right now, are rain, lightning, and a tonne of bugs.
“So imagine this massive, powerful claw, and the lights that are going to come with it – you’re going to have gnats, moths, maybe bats. I don’t know what the hell’s going to show up, but you know these are all the things that you have to think of leading up to this thing.”
Despite the possible issue with bugs, White was adamant that the only thing stopping the show from going ahead would be lightning, as he stated: “We’ve gone over this, you know. If it rains, we’re going. If it snows, we’re going. The only thing that will stop us is lightning.”
So, what’s the weather saying for this weekend?
Well, earlier this week it was reported that there was a 65% chance of rain on the day, but more concerningly, a 39% chance of thunderstorms.
Current Weather Forecast For UFC Freedom 250
As we know with the weather, however, things can change by the hour, so what’s the latest?
Well, according to the Weather Channel, there is a 37% chance of rain in the evening of the 14th of June, with a 30% chance of rain during the day. Temperatures are set to sit between 70 degrees Fahrenheit and 93 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the entire day.
What Octagon Girls Will Be Wearing For UFC Freedom 250 Has Caused a Stir
Their outfits for the weekend have been released and they’ve got everyone talking online.
During the night of the 14th of June, the Weather Channel stated: “A few showers early with mostly cloudy conditions late. Low near 70F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40%.”
In terms of the day, they said: “A mix of clouds and sun with the chance of an isolated thunderstorm in the afternoon. Hot. High 93F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30%.”
So, as things stand, everything should go ahead as planned, but as we’ve already stated, weather can change in an instant.

Omar Artan Was Barred From the US Due to Suspected Terror Ties

More details have emerged regarding why top African referee Omar Artan was denied entry into the United States ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The Somali was one of eight African referees chosen to officiate at this summer’s tournament, which is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
However, Artan, who has officiated at the Africa Cup of Nations, was barred from entering the USA at Miami International Airport and was sent to Turkey.
FIFA have confirmed the 34-year-old will now miss this summer’s showpiece international tournament after speaking to US authorities.
Why Omar Artan Was Denied Entry Into the United States
Artan was devastated after his World Cup dream was dashed. Artan told the New York Times: “I am very, very disappointed. I’m just simply a referee who’s trying to live his dream, the biggest dream of my life, to come to the World Cup. I had the right papers and everything. I had the right visa. I think that they have a problem with my country.”
Artan added he was interviewed at the Miami airport for 11 hours by border officials. He was asked why he’d traveled to the U.S. and questioned him about Somali politics and the al-Shabab militant group that is fighting an insurgency against the government in his home country.
The officials were not satisfied with his answers and he was put in a holding cell and sent back on a plane to Istanbul.
Artan was not told why he was not being allowed entry into the country. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement that he wasn’t being allowed in due to ‘vetting concerns’.
An unnamed United States official has now told ESPN that he was refused admission due to “association with suspected members of terror organisations.”
Despite the setback, Artan is trying to stay positive. In another interview, he said: “Despite the circumstances, I am in a positive mood and I am focused on the next challenges in my refereeing career.
“I would like to thank FIFA and CAF for all their support and I promise to keep my refereeing levels up as I concentrate on the future.
“I want to thank the football family for their messages and wish my colleagues all the best success during the World Cup and I look forward to joining them again in future competitions.”

US Official Defends Decision to Deny Artan Entry
The head of the White House Task Force for the World Cup, Andrew Giuliani, has defended the decision not to grant visas to a Artan and some support staff for the Iranian team.
He said at an event hosted by the Atlantic Council in Washington, per the Journal: “To this point we’ve had 35 teams that have come into the United States.
“No players, no coaches have been denied. There have been some officials that have been denied, and for good reason.”
He added: “We’re striking that balance between making sure that any bad actors that…try to come into the country under the guise of the World Cup will not get access to the United States.”
The World Cup gets underway on Thursday, June 11 when Mexico take on South Africa at the Azteca Stadium.
