The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media that the country home of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba, was attacked and his relatives targeted for kidnapping.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Sunday night, signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe.

Naija News reports that according to the command, what actually happened on September 18, 2025, was a response to a distress call in Ezimo community, which is Mba’s hometown.

Police operatives confronted armed robbers in the area, leading to a gun battle.

During the incident, one officer sustained gunshot wounds and later died in the hospital.

The police said: “During the shootout, a police officer sustained gunshot injuries and later died in the hospital.”

The command confirmed that one male suspect was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects.

Enugu Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, directed operatives to build on the progress already made in the case and ensure the arrest of all those involved.

The police described the viral report of an attack on DIG Mba’s home as false and urged members of the public to ignore it while assuring continued commitment to tackling violent crimes in the state.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State and the flag bearer of the party for the House of Representatives in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Toyin Amuzu, has described the governorship candidate of the party, Oladipupo Adebutu, as a credible and competent leader who possesses the integrity and capacity needed to move Ogun State forward.

Amuzu stressed that the PDP candidate remains one of the most experienced and prepared politicians to lead the state “at this critical period.”

Recall that on Sunday, Oladipupo Adebutu emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

Reacting, Amuzu stated that Adebutu’s long-standing commitment to the welfare of the people, his accessibility, and deep understanding of governance distinguish him as the right choice for Ogun residents.

In his words, “Chief Ladi Adebutu is a man of integrity, humility, and proven leadership capacity, with no baggage of deceit or dishonesty. He has consistently demonstrated genuine concern for the wellbeing of the people using his personal resources and has remained committed to the development of Ogun State,” Amuzu stated.

The PDP stalwart further described Adebutu as a true son of the soil whose roots and contributions to the growth of Ogun State are widely acknowledged across the state.

Amuzu maintained that Ogun State deserves a leader with credibility, honesty, and a clear vision for development, adding that Adebutu, as a thoroughbred indigene, possesses the qualities required to reposition the state economically and socially.

“Leadership must be built on truth, competence, and compassion for the people. Chief Adebutu has shown over the years that he understands the challenges facing the people and has the experience to provide practical solutions.”

He also reaffirmed his confidence in the Peoples Democratic Party, describing the PDP as a party committed to people-oriented governance and democratic ideals.
