Celtic have pinpointed Columbus Crew boss Wilfried Nancy as a leading contender to be handed the managerial reins at Parkhead after influential figures behind the scenes have continued searching for Brendan Rodgers’ long-term successor, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.
The reigning Scottish Premiership champions have gone into the international break sitting seven points adrift of table-topping Hearts, after Martin O’Neill has steadied the ship as interim boss, but the Bhoys’ key decision-makers have continued assessing their options as they look to add to their trophy cabinet.
Nancy Earmarked as Serious Candidate for Bhoys Role
Nancy has emerged as a leading contender to become Celtic’s new manager, GMS sources understand, and he is being viewed behind the scenes as a more attainable candidate than Bodo/Glimt chief Kjetil Knutsen at this stage.
The 48-year-old tactician is currently in charge of Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew, whose season came to an end when they were eliminated from the MLS Cup play-offs by FC Cincinnati last weekend, and has worked his way onto the Bhoys’ radar as a potential successor to Rodgers as they prepare for their next fixture against St Mirren on November 22.
Celtic are considering a move for Knutsen, according to GMS sources, but there is more confidence that they will be able to lure Nancy to Parkhead if they decide to up the ante with a formal approach in the coming days.
The Frenchman guided Columbus Crew to MLS Cup glory in 2023, while he also won silverware when at the helm of domestic counterparts CF Montreal.
