10 Highest-Paid Formula 1 Drivers in 2025
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen may have fallen just short in the Drivers’ Championship this year, but for the fourth season running, he tops the list of highest-paid drivers on the Formula 1 grid.
Six of the 10 teams are represented in the top 10 earners for 2025, based on salary and bonuses. The values are as reported by Forbes, although sponsorships have not been taken into account.
Here is a breakdown of all the drivers and their respective seasons, beginning with the sole rookie on the list.
10
Kimi Antonelli
Salary: $5 million | Bonuses: $7.5 million | Total: $12.5 million
The only rookie driver to make the list, Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, gave Kimi Antonelli the daunting challenge of stepping into the seat vacated by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
The Italian went on to have a steady season, which included a maiden podium, finishing P3 in Canada, before a consistent run of top-10 finishes, and a P2 finish in Brazil that saw the 19-year-old become the highest-ever point-scoring rookie (under the current points system), finishing a respectable seventh in the Drivers’ Championship, and securing his seat for next season.
9
Carlos Sainz Jr
Salary: $10 million | Bonuses: $3 million | Total: $13 million
After being forced out of Ferrari, despite being a strong performer over his four-year spell, Carlos Sainz Jr came to Williams with a point to prove.
His season got off to a frustrating start as he crashed out of the season opener in Australia, and suffered a further run of bad luck where he bore the brunt of collisions and technical issues. However, the Spaniard came into his own in the second half of the season, finding the pace in the Williams that his teammate Alex Albon was able to extract early in the season.
He earned his team’s only podiums with P3 finishes in Azebaijan and Qatar, helping him to a ninth-place finish in the final standings.
8
Lance Stroll
Salary: $12 million | Bonuses: $1.5 million | Total: $13.5 million
Stroll‘s season has been underwhelming, with the 27-year-old languishing in 16th place in the final Drivers’ Championship.
The Canadian posted top-10 finishes in just six races as Aston Martin struggled to keep pace with a fiercely competitive midfield. His best finish came in the season opener in Melbourne, where he placed sixth, but despite struggles, he will continue to race for the team next season after agreeing a contract extension back in June 2024.
7
George Russell
Salary: $15 million | Bonuses: $11 million | Total: $26 million
In his first year as the clear number one driver at Mercedes, George Russell has taken the opportunity by the scruff of the neck, qualifying behind his teammate Antonelli just three times over the course of the season.
The British driver has squeezed every ounce of performance out of his Mercedes, collecting nine podiums and winning in Canada and Singapore, despite his inferior pace compared to the McLaren and Red Bull cars.
Russell has remained consistent throughout, helping him to a fourth-place finish in the final standings behind the three title contenders.
6
Fernando Alonso
Salary: $24 million | Bonuses: $2.5 million | Total: $26.5 million
Fernando Alonso is keen to finish his glittering Formula 1 career on a high, but will struggle to do so in a car that has simply not had the pace.
His woes were most apparent in the early stages of the season, with multiple retirements and finishes outside the top 10, but he began to find some pace later in the season, collecting nine top-10 finishes that saw him finish 12th in the overall standings.
Alonso told AS.com in September that if the car performs well in 2026, it might be his last season, but after this year, that is a big ‘if.’
5
Charles Leclerc
Salary: $30 million | Bonuses $0 million | Total: $30 million
Widely regarded in Formula 1, and especially at Ferrari, as a world champion in waiting, Charles Leclerc has been forced to contend with a car that has been well off the pace of the leaders.
Despite this, the Monegasque star has managed seven podiums and consistent top-10 finishes to land him fifth in the Drivers’ Championship.
This season has been another case of ‘back to the lab’ for the Ferrari team, who will hope to produce a stronger car in 2026 and unlock the true potential of their star-studded driver line-up.
4
Oscar Piastri
Salary: $10 million | Bonuses: $27.5 million | Total: $37.5 million
Oscar Piastri showed early on that he had no intention of rolling over for Lando Norris as the McLaren pair duelled for the championship right up until the finale in Abu Dhabi.
The Australian will be mightily disappointed to have fallen short after holding a commanding 34-point lead over his rival following the Dutch Grand Prix in late August. He ultimately finished 13 points behind his teammate and 11 behind Max Verstappen, but with seven wins and a host of podium finishes, the 24-year-old has what it takes to turn the tide next season.
3
Lando Norris
Salary: $18 million | Bonuses: $39.5 million | Total: $57.5 million
The 2025 Formula 1 World Champion left it later than he would have liked to begin his charge. After being second best to Piastri early on, Norris has been on a tear since September, winning in Hungary, Mexico, and Brazil to finish with seven wins and 18 podiums for the season.
He held his nerve when it mattered, fighting off the late surge of Verstappen to become the 11th British Formula 1 World Champion and the first McLaren winner since Hamilton in 2008.
The 26-year-old was in floods of tears after crossing the line in Abu Dhabi, dedicating his victory to his team and the unwavering support of his parents.
2
Lewis Hamilton
Salary: $70 million | Bonuses: $0.5 million | Total: $70.5 million
After 12 seasons with Mercedes and six Drivers’ Championships, the 40-year-old veteran announced that he would be joining Ferrari to live his childhood dream of racing for the Formula 1 giants. Fast-forward to November, and a downtrodden Hamilton described his first season in red as a “nightmare”, perplexed by his inability to get to grips with the car and match the pace of his teammate Leclerc.
After a season without a podium and only a Sprint Race victory in China, the British superstar will hope the new 2026 regulations shake things up, and Ferrari can emerge with a car that has him competing at the top of the grid again.
1
Max Verstappen
Salary: $65 million | Bonuses: $11 million | Total: $76 million
This year’s championship battle was a conflict of juxtaposed strategies, with the fair racing ‘Papaya rules’ at McLaren versus the sole number one driver in Max Verstappen with Red Bull.
Verstappen admitted that it was the failings of McLaren that had helped reignite his late title charge, which saw him close a deficit of over 100 points to his rivals to just two points by the end of the season. It helped that the Dutchman barely put a foot wrong; his collision with George Russell in Barcelona the only obvious blunder over the course of his season.
He exuded the composure of a man with four straight Drivers’ Championships, but despite racking up eight wins, including a victory on the final day, his streak was broken by the finest of margins.

Rangers Face ‘Difficult’ Transfer Negotiations To Land Swap Deal
Rangers face an uphill task to land a transfer target for Derek McInnes, according to Football Insider, in a potential swap deal for Nicolas Raskin.
It comes as the Ibrox outfit face the possibility of losing the Belgian midfielder as part of a larger change within the squad, following last season’s disappointing finish.
The arrival of McInnes, along with Lawrence Shankland, may create the fresh start that Rangers need to fire them back towards the Scottish Premiership.
However, more moves will be required. There are links for a few options, but that may only come with an exit or two from Rangers in the coming weeks.
Rangers Swap Deal For Lewis Ferguson
Rangers have been linked with a move for Lewis Ferguson, the Bologna star who has previously featured under McInnes during their time together at Aberdeen.
The reunion has appeared as a possibility, as the Serie A side are interested in Raskin, with negotiations planned to land the midfielder from Ibrox this summer.
The chance of a swap deal appears tough, however, as Football Insider claims that the complex move is “difficult”, as Ferguson’s availability remains a sticking point in discussions.
An issue remains about the valuation of the Scotland international, who is described as “expensive”, especially following his recent outing in the World Cup.
Interest is seemingly set to ramp up in the 26-year-old, but Rangers may find it increasingly tough to get an agreement for their latest transfer target.
That won’t seemingly impact a possible exit for Raskin, however, with Bologna among the teams expected to continue pursuing a move for the 25-year-old in the coming weeks of the transfer market.

How Much Rangers Want For Raskin
Rangers are still expected to lose Raskin this summer, regardless of whether it results in a potential swap deal with Bologna for Ferguson as his replacement.
The report from Football Insider claims a £20 million price tag has been placed on the Belgian international, as he continues to gain interest in his services.

The midfielder is hot property this summer
Another Serie A side, Atalanta, have been linked with Raskin as a potential option this summer, and they likely won’t be the last to join the race.
It remains to be seen where he could end up, but Rangers will be keen to invest the funds well to give McInnes the best chance of succeeding next season.

France’s Request to Pay Tribute to Didier Deschamps’ Mother Denied By FIFA
FIFA have been called out by football fans after denying France’s request to honour Didier Deschamps’ late mother, Ginette, at the 2026 World Cup.
France defeated a weakened Norway side on Saturday afternoon at Boston Stadium to clinch top spot in Group I. Norway made 10 changes to their side that beat Senegal and Les Bleus took full advantage as they picked up all three points.
Ousmane Dembele scored a brilliant first-half hat-trick and Desire Doue got on the scoresheet in the fourth minute of stoppage-time to give the two-time world champions a 4-1 victory.
France manager Didier Deschamps was not present at the match after his mother passed away earlier this week. The French Football Federation (FFF) said in a statement on Tuesday:
“The national team coach was deeply saddened to learn this morning of the passing of his mother.
“In agreement with Philippe Diallo, President of the French Football Federation, who is present at the French national team’s training camp, Didier Deschamps has entrusted his assistant, Guy Stephan, with the responsibility of leading the squad until his return. During this extremely painful time, we ask for your utmost respect and restraint.”
France Have Request to Honour Didier Deschamps’ Mother Denied By FIFA
France had plans to honour Deschamps’ late mother for their match against Norway. They planned to wear black armbands in tribute to Ginette, but FIFA denied their request, according to The Athletic.
FIFA’s decision has not gone down well on social media, with many users on Reddit expressing their annoyance. One user said: ‘What could possibly be the reason to say no to that?’ while another stated: ‘Just when you think you can’t hate FIFA anymore…’
A third commented: ‘FIFA is a joke’ while a fourth wrote: ‘Would it kill FIFA to do something good for once?’
There was also confusion surrounding the minute’s silence. A minute’s silence was held before kick-off, with the FFF telling journalists that it was in tribute to Deschamps’ late mother.
However, they clarified shortly after that they were mistaken, with FIFA telling them the silence had been prearranged in honour of the victims of the Venezuelan earthquake.

Didier Deschamps To Return to France Squad
Deschamps’ assistant, Stephan, revealed after their victory against Norway that France’s long-serving manager would make his return this weekend. He said after the match, per the Mirror:
“The players did what they had to do [against Norway]. They were very affected by this loss. They heard Didier talk and tell them that he had to leave. They did hear that from Didier directly.
“They are very close to Didier and wanted to do something special on the pitch… I did congratulate them at the end of the match and said Didier will be back for the training session tomorrow and [before] the Round of 32.”
France, considered the favourites to lift the World Cup trophy for a third time on July 19, will face Sweden in the last 32 of the competition. If they come through that tie, a mouthwatering last 16 clash against Germany could be in store.

Premier League Rivals Want To Hijack Arsenal Deal For Wonderkid
Arsenal face a new challenge to seal a deal for a wonderkid target this summer, as Premier League rivals have now joined the race for their signature, according to BBC Sport.
The Gunners are planning for the future, having won the league title for the first time in 22 years, with plans to repeat that feat for many years to come.
While there is a blend of peak-age players with some younger talents, Mikel Arteta appears keen to add further depth to the youth ranks for the future, handing the team even more opportunities to secure long-term options.
One target that hits that criteria is a Paris Saint-Germain youngster, who Arsenal are now facing a fight to land this summer.
Bournemouth Join Emmanuel Mbemba Transfer Race
Arsenal have been seeking out a possible deal to sign PSG youngster Emmanuel Mbemba on a free transfer at the end of his contract this summer.
The 18-year-old is a defender who can play as a left-back and a centre-back, having shown great promise with the French champions during his time in their youth academy setup.
Arsenal have submitted a proposal in the hopes of landing Mbemba, but BBC Sport reports that Premier League rivals Bournemouth are looking to hijack a move.
It’s claimed that the Cherries have held initial talks over a deal, which would see him join the club and given a pathway through their sister club, Lorient.
It hands the youngster a clear pathway that may not be available at Arsenal, though the report claims that the Gunners’ offer has impressed him.
That leaves a key decision at the hands of the PSG wonderkid, who will seemingly have the pick of some top teams to join when he becomes a free agent in the coming weeks.

Arsenal’s Pathway Challenge
Given how strong the Arsenal squad is, with depth in every single position, it’s clear how much of a challenge it will be for the club to create a pathway for young stars.
While there are exceptions, like those for Max Dowman and Myles Lewis-Skelly, there have been challenges for stars such as Ethan Nwaneri.
Romano: Arsenal Launch £55m Move for ‘One of the Best Midfielders in the World’
The Gunners have made a direct transfer approach on player and club side
It makes it a challenge for the Gunners to tempt some stars to the club, and that could prove costly in the race to land a player like Mbemba this window.
With Bournemouth’s clear pathway, through the use of their multi-club model, Arsenal may well be on the backfoot to prove they are the best destination for young stars.
