2027: Ex-Senate President Lawan projects over 75% Northern votes for Tinubu

Published

The President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, has been appointed as a National Patron of the Tinubu House-to-House Network just as he projected over 75 percent Northern votes for the President in 2027 election.

The appointment, according to a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, was confirmed on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the grassroots political mobilization group to the National Assembly.

The group was led by its National Chairman, Comrade Yahaya Muhammad.

In his remarks, Lawan praised the initiative of the network and urged continued support for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC, administration.

“I feel very delighted that you have found me worthy of appointment as one of leaders, and a patron of this group. My prayer and hope will be that you continue to expand and deepen your activities across the country, but particularly [in the] northern part of Nigeria,” Lawan stated.

The former Senate President delivered an endorsement of the Tinubu administration’s performance, highlighting strides in economic stability and national security.

“I believe that President Bola Tinubu is doing his best and the APC administration is achieving a lot. “The economy of Nigeria today is stable and it’s facing the right direction,” he said.

On security, Lawan acknowledged recent challenges but expressed confidence in the nation’s armed forces, noting the administration’s commitment of resources and his own oversight role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Lawan called for a significant increase in support from the Northern region.

He said, “In 2023 general elections, the North gave about 63% of the votes that saw President Bola Tinubu to the office of the President. It is my opinion that in 2027, we should vote for our president with more than 75% of the votes that will bring him back to office.”

He argued that Nigeria stands to benefit from continuity, stating, “The President is trying to ensure that we get a fair share. So, we are better sticking with this President than trying somebody new who may not do even half of what we have seen here.”

Lawan also underscored the organic growth of the APC, attributing the influx of defectors from other parties to the stability and visible progress under its leadership.

“Nobody is bribed or coerced into becoming a member of the party, they believe in APC just like we believe in our great party,” the lawmaker representing Yobe North said.

He charged the Tinubu House-to-House Network to expand into a truly national campaign machinery, saying, “Let it be a national network, covering not only major states but all the states of federation.”

“We want to take the success story from house to house. And this is supposed to be the basis of any serious campaign,” he added.

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Kenneth Okonkwo, says former Anambra state governor, Peter Obi, is inconsequential with whatever he does with his life.

Okonkwo made this statement on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

When asked his ultimate goal on Peter Obi, the Nollywood veteran-turned politician said he wants to talk about contenders in 2027 and not pretenders.

“I have just been appointed the spokesperson of Atiku Abubakar, so Obi is inconsequential in whatever he is doing in his life. May we proceed to talk about more important issues?

“I want to talk about contenders in 2027, I don’t want to talk about pretenders. Can you bring down somebody who is already down?

DAILY POST recalls that Atiku, the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections on Thursday appointed Okonkwo as his spokesman.

‘Hell no’ — Atiku’s aide slams Shehu Sani over comment on ADC court victory

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s media aide, Paul Ibe, has criticised former senator Shehu Sani over his reaction to the Federal High Court judgment affirming the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

Ibe argued that some members of the judiciary helped sustain President Bola Tinubu’s mandate.

Ibe made the remarks on Thursday in a post on X while responding to Shehu Sani’s comment following the court’s ruling in favour of former Senate President David Mark-led ADC leadership.

Reacting to the judgment, Shehu Sani wrote: “Now that the High Court has ruled in favour of Mark and against Nafiu, the Judiciary will now be called the ‘last hope of the common man’; It also means that there is no plot to impose a ‘one party state’.”

Responding, Ibe rejected Sani’s position, alleging that some judges had played a role in upholding Tinubu’s electoral victory.

“Hell no, @ShehuSani! Are you talking about the same judiciary, specifically the bench that some of its ignoble members have been standing on Tinubu’s mandate? Some of our politicians should infact be sent on attachment or refresher courses in the art of politicking to some of the judges. #Lifusprudence,” Ibe wrote.

DAILY POST reports that the exchange followed Thursday’s judgment by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which affirmed the leadership of the ADC headed by former Senate President David Mark.

Justice Musa Liman dismissed a suit filed by House of Representatives member Leke Abejide challenging the party’s leadership structure, holding that the case lacked merit and was not justiciable because it concerned the internal affairs of a political party.

The court also upheld the preliminary objections filed by the ADC, its former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, incumbent National Chairman David Mark, and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, ruling that Abejide failed to establish that any of his legal rights had been violated by the emergence of the current leadership.
