Mick Foley’s Strong Statement After Leaving WWE Because of Donald Trump

Published

on

WWE’s relationship with the President of the United States has landed them in hot water with one of their own. Former WWE Champion, Mick Foley, who played characters Mankind, Cactus Jack, and Dude Love, even appearing as all three in the 1998 Royal Rumble match, has announced he’s parting ways with the company due to their close relationship with Donald Trump, citing his response to film director, Rob Reiner’s, death.

Foley is a legend in the wrestling business. He was a three-time WWE Champion, under the Mankind persona, and had legendary rivalries with the likes of The Undertaker and The Rock. He is known as the hardcore legend as he put his body on the line so many times for the enjoyment of those in attendance and watching at home. Most notably, he was speared through a burning table by Edge at WrestleMania 22, and was thrown off the top of a cell by The Undertaker in 1998.

When Foley first appeared as Mankind in 1996, his first target was The Undertaker. As a heel, he aligned with Paul Bearer against The Phenom, which included their infamous Boiler Room Brawl at SummerSlam in 1996. After becoming a good guy, however, Mankind then pinned The Rock, aligning with The Corporation in January 1999 to win his first WWE Championship, although WCW did their best to scupper the surprise by leaking the result as the Monday Night War was still in full swing.

Mankind

Mankind and The Rock then traded wins and the championship over the rest of 1999, and Foley, this time as Cactus Jack, challenged Triple H for the title in a street fight at 2000’s No Way Out before retiring. Obviously, though, he returned and continued to appear until his WWE deal expired in 2008, at which point he moved across to TNA.

The WWE Universe had to wait until 2011 to see Foley again, where his final in-ring outing was the 2012 Royal Rumble match. He kept making sporadic appearances until he made the decision we see today, where he’s announced he will not be signing a new Legends deal with the company.

Mick Foley’s Statement on Donald Trump

His statement reads: “While I have been concerned about WWE‘s close relationship with Donald Trump for several months, especially in light of his administration’s ongoing cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants (and pretty much anyone who “looks like an immigrant”), reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me.

“I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy. Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office. Additionally, I will not be signing a new Legends deal when my current one expires in June.

“I love WWE, and will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me. But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, ‘I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more.'”

Donald Trump’s Relationship With WWE

Trump has had a close relationship with WWE higher-ups historically. He shared a friendship with Vince McMahon and feuded with him on screen in the run-up to the Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania 23, which resulted in him and Bobby Lashley shaving the former chairman’s hair. McMahon’s wife, Linda, meanwhile, served as the Administrator of the US Small Business Administration in Trump’s first term and is currently Secretary of State for Education.

Judging by this statement, fans can have their eye on 2028 as when they may be able to see Foley in WWE again, as due to a US President being limited to only two terms, Trump won’t be able to run again once his second term ends.

Egypt FA React to ‘Shocking’ Footage of Clash Involving Coach and US Police

The Egyptian FA have released a statement after ‘shocking’ footage of their team director, Ibrahim Hassan, clashing with US police in Dallas emerged.

Egypt are enjoying a fine World Cup. The Pharaohs opened up their campaign with an impressive 1-1 draw against Belgium.

They then won their first ever match at a World Cup as they defeated New Zealand 3-1, before drawing 1-1 with Iran to secure a second-placed finish in Group G.

Egypt’s reward for finishing second in their group is a last 32 tie against Australia, which is set to take place at Dallas Stadium on Friday, July 3.

However, there have been some ugly scenes involving police and Hassan ahead of the match.

In footage posted to social media, former Aston Villa ace Trezeguet can be seen signing a shirt and then posing for a selfie with a youngster when team director Hassan walks over to join him.

But tensions escalated when an individual with ‘Dallas Police’ on the back of his shirt made his way to Hassan to have words with him. After a brief exchange, the police officer appeared to shove Hassan backwards before shouting “Back off!” multiple times.

The two were quickly separated, with Hassan being dragged away by Trezeguet and other individuals present at the scene.

A source within the Egyptian national football team has spoken to Egypt Independent to explain exactly what happened. The source said:

“An altercation occurred between Ibrahim Hassan and a hotel security guard due to the organisers’ poor handling of the Egyptian fans. The fans were eager to take commemorative photos with the players, but security intervened aggressively. This angered Hassan, who stepped in to object to their harsh demeanor.”

The source added that the situation was minor, quickly resolved, and that no boundaries were crossed by either party.

Mohamed Salah Available To Play Against Australia

There were doubts whether Mohamed Salah, considered one of the greatest African players in football history, would be available to play against Australia due to a hamstring issue he sustained against Iran. However, the 34-year-old will feature in the match, according to manager Hossam Hassan.

He said, per ESPN: “Against Iran, we learned that he suffered a hamstring strain during the second half of the match and asked to be substituted. Our very distinguished medical department took care of that, and we tried to introduce him to partial team training as of yesterday only.

“But Salah is a passionate player; he is very much looking forward to making his own contributions with his teammates tomorrow.

“But of course, I am not going to run any risk unless I am sure that he is 100 percent sure of the fact that he is fit and raring to go tomorrow. We look forward to him playing tomorrow, not sure though whether he is going to be in the starting lineup.”

The winner of the match between Egypt and Australia will play either Argentina or Cape Verde in the last 16.

Marco Rubio Reacts to Folarin Balogun Red Card at World Cup

Published

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has now issued a strong reaction to Folarin Balogun’s controversial red card, which has ruled the USMNT’s leading 2026 World Cup goalscorer out of the last 16 clash against Belgium.

Balogun was shown a straight red card by Brazilian referee Raphael Claus during USA’s 2-0 victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina in the Round of 32 earlier this week.

Slow-motion replays of Balogun’s foul on Bosnia defender Tarik Muharemovic convinced Claus that a red card was warranted. However, US head coach Mauricio Pochettino insisted “it’s never a red card”, adding: “Watching after on TV… there was never intention to step on the player. [It’s] a normal action in football that happened by accident. It’s never intentional.”

VAR expert Andy Davies said Balogun “can feel unfortunate to be red carded in this situation as, in my opinion, this was not a red card offence.”

He also claimed that a VAR protocol was broken during the review that resulted in the former Arsenal player’s dismissal.

FIFA’s rules mean that US cannot appeal against Balogun’s red card. USMNT fans have urged Donald Trump to intervene, but even the US President may be powerless in this instance.

Meanwhile, Marco Rubio, Washington’s top diplomat and prominent member of Trump’s cabinet, has now reacted to the controversial decision. He said:

“It was great. They got screwed with that red card.

“There needs to be an appeal process for that. It’s probably too late for that, right?”

Indeed, it’s extremely unlikely at this stage that FIFA will overturn the decision. In fact, there’s even a chance that Balogun could miss further games – provided the USMNT reach the quarter-finals – should FIFA’s disciplinary committee choose to extend the suspension.

The US take on Belgium at the Seattle Stadium on Monday night. Win that game and they’ll face either Portugal or Spain at the Los Angeles Stadium in the quarter-finals on Friday, July 10.

The USMNT currently have a 2.06% chance of lifting the iconic World Cup trophy for the first time at the New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, according to Opta’s Supercomputer, making them the 12th favourites as things stand.

France are currently the red-hot favourites, followed by Lionel Messi’s Argentina and then Spain, who made light work of Austria in the Round of 32.

But with home advantage and a strong team spirit under Pochettino, one of the world’s best coaches over the past decade, the USA are dark horses to create one of the biggest shocks in football history.

Tottenham Told They Can Sign Rafael Leao for Just £51.3m

Tottenham are said to have learned the asking price for one of their attacking transfer targets. Spurs are in the midst of a record-breaking transfer window, with the Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali deals taking the North London side’s spending above what they have ever spent before.

Roberto De Zerbi is being fully backed in this window, and as much as £237million has been spent so far, with more spending still to come. De Zerbi likely demanded summer spending before taking the job, and Spurs have followed up on their promise after surviving the Premier League drop.

With the midfield now seen as complete, Tottenham will now likely prioritise a winger transfer, and AC Milan star Rafael Leao has been heavily linked, along with Manchester City’s Savinho and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

Leao wants out from Milan

It is no secret that Leao is looking for a new club after seven years with AC Milan, and he is likely to have his pick of a number of top clubs this summer.

The winger said before the World Cup: “Personally, I’ve given everything at AC Milan. It’s a club that helped me grow a lot and supported me through tough times.

“Fortunately, I managed to make my mark in their history. Everyone has ambitions and I dream of a new challenge in a new league.

“If that happens, I’ll be very happy and fulfilled because I did my job at AC Milan.”

With AC Milan bracing for Leao’s exit, it is reported by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio that the Italian giants want €60-70million (£51.3m-£59.9m) for the winger this summer. Leao is currently away with Portugal at the World Cup, so his future is unlikely to be resolved until after he returns, but a move is almost certain this summer.

The 27-year-old scored 10 and assisted three last season, but it was a disappointing season for him and Milan as a whole, leading to the Italian club missing out on Champions League football. Still, the ‘world-class’ Leao is thought of as one of Europe’s top-bracket wingers, and he has already been linked with Arsenal, Tottenham and many others.

Former Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri said Leao has ‘genius’ while speaking back in 2025. He added: “He’s been out for 45 days, so he’s still finding rhythm. Last week, he came on out of necessity and did well. He’s worked hard this week – we need him back quickly. He and Nkunku are technical players who can solve matches. He played as a striker at Lille, so it’s not new to him. His movement on [Luka] Modric’s pass was perfect.”
