PDP: Wike-backed faction dissolves 14 state excos, fixes congresses

The factional Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dissolved the executives of 14 state chapters of the party and announced plans to conduct fresh congresses in January 2026.

The Care-Taker Committee stated that the leadership of Mohammed Abdulrahman and Samuel Anyanwu as Acting Chairman and Acting National Secretary, respectively, remains the only legitimate structure recognised by the party.

The faction made this known in a statement following its meeting on Thursday evening in Abuja.

DAILY POST reports that PDP governors endorsed the Ibadan convention, at which Tanimu Turaki and other members of the National Working Committee were elected on November 16 for four-year tenure.

However, Wike and his allies, Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, maintained that they remain the Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary, respectively.

Recall that although the governors ensured a seamless handover from former Chairman Umar Damagum to Turaki ahead of the official end of Damagum’s tenure on December 9, the Wike-aligned faction nonetheless proceeded on December 8 to appoint Mohammed, Anyanwu and others as 13 members of a 60-day caretaker committee.

During the 60-day period, all outstanding congresses were to be conducted, and a national convention would be convened.

While Turaki has continued to hold a series of meetings with some party leaders, the Mohammed/Anyanwu caretaker committee has also been conducting its own activities.

The Acting Publicity Secretary listed the states affected by the decision as Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano and Lagos.

“To tell the teeming members of our party and the general public that the PDP remains strong and indivisible. There is only one genuine and legitimate PDP, headed by Honourable Abdulrahman Mohammed,” the statement read in part.

NDC: Politicians detest judiciary when it goes against them – Gov Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has called on Nigerian politicians to desist from politicising everything, including judicial matters, stating that it is not healthy for the nation’s democracy.

Sani made this remark on Tuesday when he featured in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’.

He was speaking on the recent court judgement on the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

Recall that a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, set aside its earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to register the NDC as a political party.

Reacting, Sani said, “When it favours politicians, they feel the judiciary is the best place to go, when it goes against them, they feel the judiciary is the worst place to go.

“For some of us that believe in democracy and the rule of law, we have to be very careful. Politicizing every issue is not healthy for us, because many actors that are involved in this NDC issue have been beneficiaries of the judiciary.

“Maybe you have to cast your mind back that even the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was also someone that benefited from a very strong judicial pronouncement when he was governor of Anambra state.”

2027: Current opposition unserious, fighting for personal interest – Gov Sani

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has lashed out at the current opposition political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Featuring in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Tuesday, Sani said the memebrs of the opposition were not serious, stressing that they were only fighting for their personal interest.

He said in the last three months, they have been jumping from one party to another, looking for a platform

“The current opposition in Nigeria, are they really fighting the ruling party because they believe in Nigeria?

“It’s all about their personal interests. These guys are not serious. They are not political parties based on what they believe in or what they can do.

“I don’t think they are organised as you are looking at them. You need to ask them to show you the evidence that the ruling party is fighting them because that’s what they keep saying.

“What’s their own agenda, ideology or philosophy? If you are in a political party, you have to sit down, build, organize and do whatever is necessary to protect the party. You can’t be jumping from one party to another,” the governor said.

Allegations against Gbajabiamila unsubstantiated, distractions — Coalition

LAGOS—A coalition comprising Concerned Nigerians in Diaspora United Kingdom, Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria and the Assembly of Lagos Youths has dismissed allegations against the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, describing them as unsubstantiated and a distraction.

In a joint statement by US-based public affairs commentator, Kofo Williams; Chairman of Concerned Nigerians in Diaspora United Kingdom, Abanikanda Olumoro; Convener of Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria, Ibrahim Barkindo Chubado; and Assembly of Lagos Youths leader, Mr Lasisi Robert, the groups said they were reacting to a viral video linking Gbajabiamila to budgetary issues surrounding the purported Presidential Fiscal and Investment Policy Commission, PFIPC.

The coalition said the allegations were unverified and appeared aimed at tarnishing the image of the Chief of Staff, urging Nigerians not to undermine public confidence without credible evidence.
The controversy followed claims that the PFIPC, reportedly disowned by Gbajabiamila, was listed in the 2026 budget alongside the Presidential Economic Advisory Council, PEAC, with a combined allocation exceeding N1.3 billion.

The statement reads: “Public service… comes with intense scrutiny. While accountability remains a cornerstone of democratic governance, public discourse must be guided by facts, evidence and due process rather than speculation.

“If critics have reservations over budgetary allocations, the appropriate institution to seek clarification from is the National Assembly. Public officials should be judged on evidence, not conjecture.”
