Faction in PDP is APC’s strategy to eliminate opposition – Ladan Salihu

Published

on

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Ladan Salihu, has said that the notion of a faction existing within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is a strategy by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC-led government to ensure the elimination of opposition.

Salihu made the statement on Wednesday while responding to questions in an interview on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST.

He was reacting to the crisis in the PDP.

“Well, the new INEC chairman told Nigerians that he is a man of impeccable character and disposition. This is the time to show that he is a man of impeccable, not impeachable character.

“I hope he is not carrying the baggage of the former chairman politically or administratively in INEC. The INEC that we knew in the times of Yakubu Mahmoud, I hope the tradition is not continuing.

“First and foremost, let’s be clear about it, I am not a member of the PDP, but then you look at the issues dispassionately, you look at the issues holistically, and you look at the laws.

“The idea of saying that there is even a faction in the PDP is a scheme. It is a scam. It is a strategy by the ruling APC-led government to make sure that they eliminate opposition,” he said.

2027: ADC has no concrete rescue plan for Nigeria – Atiku’s ally, Aliyu dumps party, joins APC

Aslam Aliyu, an ally of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has dumped the party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

In a statement, Aliyu said the ADC does not have a concrete rescue plan for Nigeria, stating that her decision followed a long reflection on Nigeria’s political direction and the capacity of the opposition to provide alternative governance.

According to her, for almost two decades, she had worked tirelessly within the political camp of Atiku, noting that throughout the entire period, her loyalty never wavered.

She, however, stressed that after almost two decades of dedicated engagement, it has become undeniably clear that the opposition lacks a meaningful development blueprint or a viable and sustainable national rescue plan.

“The ADC has no concrete plan for the country, other than to criticise the government without bringing a single viable solution to the table. Political culture must move past theatrical criticism and embrace measurable progress.

“I am a mother, calling on patriotic Nigerian youths, women, and forward-thinking opposition members to abandon counterproductive politics and join hands with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” she said.

“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock Villa, as Bola Ahmed Tinubu will emerge as the winner of the presidential election come 2027, by the grace of Almighty Allah,” she said.

The Zamfara-born politician further stated that her defection was driven by a desire to contribute more effectively to national development under a structured political platform.

Former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, on Monday, said President Bola Tinubu should be given kudos for moving Nigeria forward.

Sheriff said Tinubu has done a lot and wants Nigeria to progress, adding that the president wants freedom for states.

The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, disclosed this while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

According to Sheriff: “What President Tinubu did in this country to ensure this country moves forward, if you don’t give him kudos, you shouldn’t condemn him.

“If at the time Tinubu said there is no fuel subsidy if they didn’t revolt Nigeria won’t have paid its bills for that month. Not only that, he didn’t do that and take the money for himself, he gave it to the states.

“Google and see the 10 highest allocations of states, look at the allocation of states, some states receive as much as N55 billion in one month.

“During my 8 years as governor, the total I received was about N150 billion. Tinubu has done a lot, he wanted the country to progress and freedom for the state.

“Talking about insecurity, yes it’s the responsibility of the Federal government but what you don’t realize it that it’s also the responsibility of the state under the concurrent list, the state has the responsibility of security.”

More than 60,000 members and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors were received by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, according to a statement signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki.

Speaking on behalf of the group, former ADC Coordinator in Jega LGA and former House of Representatives aspirant for the Aliero/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency, Alhaji Aminu Mustapha, said they decided to leave the ADC because of what they described as the achievements of Governor Idris and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said, “Our decision to join the APC was informed by the remarkable achievements of Governor Nasir Idris and the purposeful leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Mustapha added that the APC had shown commitment to the welfare of Nigerians and remained a party with strong grassroots support across the country.

Other representatives of the defectors also praised the governor’s leadership and development projects. They pledged their loyalty to the APC and promised to support the party.

In his response, Governor Idris thanked the new members for joining the APC and assured them they would be treated equally with existing party members.

He said “they would enjoy the same rights, opportunities, and privileges as every other APC member,” while urging them to remain united and work towards the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.

The governor also highlighted his administration’s achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, water supply, rural development, road construction, and youth and women empowerment. He said his government would continue to provide the dividends of democracy to the people of Kebbi State.

The event was attended by the acting APC state chairman, members of the State Executive Council, party leaders, and other stakeholders.
