An Imo State Federal Lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency in National Assembly, Ikenga Ugochinyere has taken a new political move as he officially joined the Action Peoples Party, APP, in preparation for 2027 general elections.

The move followed his recent voluntary withdrawal of his membership card from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, citing unending internal squabble as reason for his action.

Welcoming him to the APP family, the National President of the Party, Uchenna Kingsley Nnadi said the coming of Ugochinyere is a big plus to the party as a current Federal Lawmaker and one of the loudest voices in the National Assembly.

He hinted that the Ideato representative, did not join the party out of frustration or desperation but through his personal conviction having known that APP is heading towards providing political alternative to Ndimo and Nigeria in general.

“Ugochinyere identifying with APP is not only a big plus but a positive step that will boost the strength of the party to get wider reach across the Federation. We welcome him whole heartedly into our political family and assure him of our support in every of his political engagement,” he said.

Receiving the party membership card witnessed by numerous of his supporters, Ugochinyere expressed gratitude to the party leadership for accepting him.

He said that APP receiving him is like a home coming having been former vice chairman of the party.

The Federal Lawmaker, asserted that what moved him to join APP is because the party, unlike PDP and others is the only political platform yet to be penetrated by those he described as anti democrats and party hijackers who according to him have vowed to frustrate genuine democratic process.

He pointed out that PDP problem started immediately after the party 2023 presidential primaries where Nyesom Wike lost to Atiku Abubakar in a clear political contest.

He hinted that the refusal of Wike to accept defeat opened door for internal crisis leading to self-destruction of the party till date.

“Immediately after the presidential primaries, Wike went berserk and begin to create one problem and the other recruiting his allies to destroy the party that made him. Since 1999 Wike has enjoyed political relevant courtesy of PDP and instead of showing gratitude, the only thing he could do is to destroy the house that sheltered him.” he said.

Ugochinyere added that Wike is at war with everybody, operating a dangerous political view, always insisting on having his way against democratic principles, which according to him led to the destruction of PDP.

He maintained that he has no regret leaving the party, having tried his best to make it stand despite the fact that some members of the party testified against him during the multiple litigations to oust him.

The Ideato representative, enjoined his supporters and constituents to embrace the new political family and obtain their membership cards for new political era has come to stay not only in the Constituency but Imo State at large.

Ugochinyere asserted that 2027 general elections will be tough for election riggers as the international Community will beam their searchlight on the nation citing recent development going on in Venezuela.

“Get your Permanent Voters Card ready, your votes must surely count. There will be no room for manipulation, Trump is watching and ready to act. Sovreignty belongs to the people and must be protected at all cost” he said.

Earlier in his speech, a Governorship hopeful, Chima Amadi said that Ugochinyere did not make any mistakes in joining the APP.

He maintained that the coming of Ugochinyere into the party will help in chasing the ruling APC out of corridor of leadership and enthrone leadership of fairness, equity and justice.

The event which took place at Ideato North Model Primary School Akokwa, was witnessed by thousands of supporters and other political parties that came in solidarity with the Lawmaker.

Nasarawa South senator, Ogoshi Onawo, has dumped the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, less than two weeks after joining the party.

His letter of defection was read at the plenary on Tuesday by the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau.

The lawmaker, in the letter, said he resigned his membership of the ADC in Galadima Ward, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, with effect from June 15.

Onawo disclosed that the decision followed extensive consultations with his constituents, political associates and other key stakeholders.

“This decision is the outcome of careful reflection and wide-ranging consultations with my constituents, political associates, and other critical stakeholders,” the letter read.

According to him, the move was necessitated by the internal challenges facing the ADC.

“It is driven by my firm belief that the prevailing circumstances within the current party structure and the endless legal battle it is currently embroiled in no longer offer the cohesion, support, and enabling environment required for me to focus squarely on effectively representing my constituents and to fully realise the development and progressive mandate they entrusted me.

“However, I now happily join the Allied Peoples Movement, APM. I am grateful for the trust and cooperation I have received from my supporters and well-wishers through this journey,” he added.

DAILY POST reports that his defection came only weeks after he left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the ADC.

He was among nine senators who announced their defection to the ADC during a Senate plenary presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on March 12.

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for their first term have backed the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu while expressing concern over the country’s security challenges.

The position was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the APC first-term governors’ meeting held on Tuesday in Kebbi State.

The communiqué was presented by the Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, on behalf of the governors.

The governors acknowledged the economic challenges facing Nigerians but said they believed the ongoing reforms were necessary to address the country’s fiscal, security and development challenges.

They said the reforms were aimed at stabilising the economy, restoring public finances, attracting investment, improving productivity and laying the foundation for long-term economic growth.

The governors also called on Nigerians to remain united and support the implementation of the reforms while urging governments at all levels to strengthen relief measures and social protection programmes for vulnerable citizens.

On security, they expressed concern over persistent insecurity, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, attacks on schools and other violent crimes across parts of the country.

They pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities to improve security and protect lives and property.

The governors also condemned the abduction of children, attacks on schools and the killing of innocent citizens, calling for intensified efforts to rescue victims and prosecute those responsible.

The communiqué further expressed concern over reported attacks and killings involving Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa, condemning xenophobia and urging the South African authorities to investigate the incidents and ensure the protection of foreign nationals.

The factional G15 group of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kwara State on Tuesday warned that the party may lose the state if the current implosion triggered by the disagreement over the recent primaries is not resolved amicably.

The group in a statement in Ilorin on Tuesday said losing the G15 will be a grave  political mistake.

“Numbers don’t lie: Without the G15, APC cannot win Kwara,” the group declared.

The group urged President Tinubu and the National Working Committee, NWC, to intervene.

“It will be nothing short of political suicide for the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State to contemplate the exit of the G15 to the opposition.

“Such a development would inflict irredeemable damage and inevitably precipitate the party’s defeat at the polls.

“The G15 is not an ordinary caucus. It is a formidable constellation of tested, proven, and high-profile political leaders who have consistently delivered electoral victories across their respective domains.

“They are complemented by seasoned statesmen who have occupied strategic positions within the party and government.Let us examine the weight of this bloc,” it added.

The group declared that in Kwara Central, the APC stands to lose Ambassador Yahaya Seriki-Gambari, the Director General of the governorship campaign council in both 2019 and 2023.
